Kuyawa··on Will Open Source Survive the Agents That Replaced It?
I told AI to create and editor just like Sublime (my editor for the last decade) and it did in less than 10 minutes. File tree, multi tabs, multi carets, syntax highlighting, code snippets, everything I need in an editor (except LSP for now, will be added in v2)

I haven't used Sublime this week, it works as expected and I can't be happier

Oh, and it cost only $2 to build using DeepSeek

Then I told DeepSeek Harness to build a clone of itself in Swift, unbelievably it did!

So, apps are in a downward spiral towards zero value, everybody can do their own. The real value is in market penetration and the race is going to be fierce

Kuyawa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
Luddites have existed since the dawn of times:

"We're not going to use tractors to plow the fields"
"We're not going to use trucks to deliver our produce"
"We're not going to use planes to meet with our global partners"
"We're not going to use computers to run our business"
"We're not going to open a web shop, brick and mortar forever"
"We're not going to use AI to make decisions for us"
Kuyawa··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
> Fact is, vibe-coded projects devolve over time into an unmaintainable mess. The reason is simple, yet hard to fix: code maintainability and good architecture don’t have good measurements that we can apply, because it takes months, years even, to notice the effects of bad architecture or of unmaintainable code.

False. AI is evolving by leaps and bounds and the outputs are better and better by the day

Personally, repeating what the article says, I haven't coded since may 2026, not a single line, and AI has been delivering exceptional results, improving by the day

Any AI related article necessarily needs to consider future improvements as they will come not by surprise but by steady refinements, and posts like this will look just like the same early AI slop they complain about

Coding IS solved

Kuyawa··on Show HN: A website that tracks US food prices every day
Excellent!

One suggestion, /food-prices/retail table sortable by column asc/desc just like in commodities

I like ordering by percentage desc to see the highest price jump

Kuyawa··on Grok 4.7
In annui-grok, I like the light over the statue on cursor hover, a nice touch I haven't seen before
Kuyawa··on The Hierarchy of Money
The only problem of money is inflation. The ability of one single entity to print money at will, stealing from everybody else without them noticing is one of the greatest con jobs in the history of mankind (and we all know who has the master printer in the world)

Money is a beautiful instrument for trading and free markets, the only way for two entities to peacefully exchange goods. Inflate that money supply and you are silently stealing from the pockets of those who trust that instrument

Kuyawa··on OpenAI's Sam Altman to Brief UN Security Council Next Week
Apocalypse, doom, chaos, children, china, regulation, taxes, in that order

That's the whole presentation, saved you a couple of insufferable hours

Kuyawa··on Weeping whales: Stillborn humpback whale grieving documented
Ants don't walk in line over the stove. It may not be fear, but there is something hardwired that tells them not too, or they would be extinct long ago

Applies to all living organisms

Kuyawa··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
I am impressed by the number of artists that follow HN even outnumbering programmers. Programmers are not artists, artists see the world in colors while we see it in black and white (just look at this page). There are a few really great artist/programmers among us but they're a very rare specimen

For us programmers, something maybe be good enough to use or bad enough to discard, while for an artist there are a thousand details to inspect by just glancing at it, typography, space, color, message, alignment, etc and many more I am not knowledgeable enough to list

To all artists, I admire you in a very different way, a kind of envy for not being able to see the beauty you can see in my bored green on black terminal world

Kuyawa··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
This is one of the most interesting posts I've seen, and that's the way people should work with AI. A brainstorming session, with background and references, with broad knowledge of the field, then with clear instructions on how to proceed, different designs, propositions out of the ordinary, etc

I've been doing that for the last six months and the results are more than spectacular for the apps I build

So no, 'create an inventory app' is not enough, you have to be specific in every sense, every detail of the tech stack, phases, checklists, roadmaps, decisions, everything that makes AI's life easier (less mistakes to make and fix) and yours too.

Next time, start with "Let's have a brainstorming session about an [inventory] app we will create and at the end write a very detailed prompt.md, here is the initial context... ask all the questions you may have before writing any code"

* Replace [inventory] with any other app you may need

And remember one thing, AI is a multiplier of both our intelligence and our stupidity, the outcome will reflect that

Edit: The link at the end deserves some exposure, it's the work of the author showcasing 100 prompts for different designs [1] and some people won't get there because tl;dr or short attention span. Get them, use them, learn from them

Kuyawa··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
I understand the business model, we are data providers, they are aggregators. That's fine.

What's not right is that they want to limit the use of such data when it's not theirs in first place. They just store it but that doesn't give them a license to prohibit the use by a third party since we all are owners of that data

Kuyawa··on Ask A Monk – A digital wilderness for thoughts with no immediate answer
First thought, we vote for the better answers, something like StackOverflow. Interesting questions get a myriad of answers from different perspectives, sorted by popularity, perhaps weighted by an authoritative score

Second thought, nah, cruxman would win all the time, atheists would get buried by hallelujos and the site would become a cesspool of bigotry, intolerance and hate

That's why we can't have good things

Kuyawa··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Google has been scraping everything from us since day one. Meta, Microsoft, Github, Slack, Reddit, StackOverflow, big and small, every single app that interacts with people uses our own data to make money and create walled gardens. I haven't seen a single one opening their silos to the world. That's our data, we produced it, you captured it and now you think it's yours

So no, your cries for regulating others because you are losing the race won't work this time.

Kuyawa··on Fujitsu launches made-in-Japan next-generation CPU FUJITSU-MONAKA
Unfortunately the UN, the organization that was created exactly for that, is just a puppet of the current hegemon because the money printer can buy anything and any soul. So a hard reset is needed in world politics in order to find a peaceful way again. It baffles me how China and Russia don't get together and form a new UN, like AN (Allied Nations) then both organizations UN and AN would fight for their members rights and get into agreements that would benefit all
Kuyawa··on Astra for Law

Kuyawa··on Fujitsu launches made-in-Japan next-generation CPU FUJITSU-MONAKA
That's what you get when you put a clown in power. I am not american so I don't care but the whole world noticed the bullying and acted accordingly. For example, US learned the hard way they can't bring down Huawei, tariff china or slow their frontier AI. Now Europe with Mistral and Japan with Moneka, both pointing in the same direction. Big middle finger if I've seen one
Kuyawa··on Fujitsu launches made-in-Japan next-generation CPU FUJITSU-MONAKA
Yes, AI is that important and every big actor should develop their own, avoiding any strongarming to slowdown and comply to "save the world" by certain bully we all know

Kudos to Japan

Kuyawa··on 25 Years of Mass Surveillance Is Enough
No it is not, and it will get worse. No matter who is in power, power stays. And power by definition is the capacity to control and plunder without restrictions

All these years reading about liberty and philosophy has taught me that the only way out is to make money and disappear, be an eagle, watch the lions eat the sheeple from the top of a mountain, because the sheeple don't want to be freed and worse yet, they will point at you as if you're an outlier, a misfit, a problem that must be fixed by force, their 'democratic' force

So fly high, find your peak and watch from there, we only have 100 years to live as we please, not to spend it fighting for those who don't want to be saved

Do like Nero, let the world burn and enjoy watching, from afar...

Kuyawa··on How to write an effective software design document
> A good design doc can save you years of development time

Brainstorm with your agent in a new session, ask a thousand questions, at the end ask for a detailed prompt.md to develop an app then tell it to comply

There, saved years of development time in AI era

Kuyawa··on Who Aligns the Aligners?
> The most effective method of pacing is via regulation

Of course, that's the only way to create monopolies. Get there first and regulate to death. Sprinkle with fear of annihilation so the sheeple can be manipulated with draconian rules in order to 'save the children'

Politics is really boring

Kuyawa··on Apple's Siri AI Can Be Swapped Out for Claude, ChatGPT, Code Shows
Siri was the first widely available AI bot but they forgot to open it to developers. The ecosystem would have grown a million fold in all these years

Never underestimate the power of a bored programmer

  Siri turn on the lights
Siri code a Doom clone in Swift
Siri design a landing page for a Consulting Agency
Siri summarize the latest news about AI
Siri find a solution to the Riemann hypothesis
Now that's an agent I'd use. Can we start with Siri for the terminal?

Kuyawa··on Why is privacy so hard? (2019)
If you want privacy, shut down your windows

And spend money on products you can install locally that do not connect to the web. Free products will always abuse your privacy

Kuyawa··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
A site summarizer built in 2 minutes by DeepSeek https://briff.site

Also, an orchestrating agent that supervises subagents running tasks by checking their output and qualifying their results by efficiency and time consumed. It is amazing!

I am currently building an app every couple of days, but with this orchestrator I can build many apps in parallel. It is raw at the moment but it works

Now the time we spend writing prompts will be spent writing plans, tasks, schedules and metrics. While super interesting, this is definitely not the route I want to take for the sake of my sanity. I think we may start asking our model to write plans and tasks for us too, but the more complexity we add, the more complex thoughts we have to manage as AI architects

Also hacking DeepSeek Harness to circumvent all restrictions it has, giving it super powers to run unattended with full access to everything

Kuyawa··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
China won't slow down no matter how many tariffs, regulations or bombs they drop on them

Kuyawa··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash
I never used any other harness as I built my own CLI coding agents, but DSH has way more power than my own tools so it definitely does more even if it is the same underlying AI model. Impressive

Btw, I gave it full access and told itself to lift all restrictions from the code and settings, and I am impressed by all it can do now, it does OCR, screenshots, asked me for accessibility permissions and it now can read every single label/input/button everywhere and interact with the OS at any level, it's unstoppable

Of course I don't recommend anybody to do such crazy thing but for me is like going in the front car of a roller coaster, it's the thrill that matters
