KraftKacke··on Testosterone levels show steady decrease among young US men
In fat tissue testosterone gets converted into estrogen via aromatase, also. Not sure if the estrogenic effects are systemic, but the T is lost from circulation.

I got a addicted to eating oranges with the peel. Obviously you need to get those not treated, "bio", or peel labeled for consumption. Some don't like the texture, but the automatic intensity and bitter-sweet contrast is so fucking awesome.

Try eating a whole chilled orange in the warm shower like an animal. Just make sure your bite gets pulp and peel both.

I can attest to that. I became mostly vegan, because I had a new friend who was vegan and I started to cook with them in mind. It's fun and challenging, invites for experimentation. Climate and health considerations did the rest. Cooking with meat and cheese is like cheating. You have to be an idiot for it to become a boring dish.

Unless she's allergic to the sulphur compounds, you may really enjoy Kala Namak. It's a traditional asian salt which contains sulfuric ingredients and it makes everything taste like eggs. (It's not heat stable tho.) With avocado you get something that tastes and feels like egg. A sulphur note is also very typical for non-vegan food, as animal protein decay releases these molecules at any stage. I do a modified version of the kinky vegan "Mett" (german, raw minced meat) based on rice cakes and tomato extract (don't judge it before you tried it) and the sulfuric hint really adds to it.

It is.

Signal is also not a good messenger...

You can't delete signal contacts and other potentially incriminating meta... Like wtf?!

KraftKacke··on German police take down 'world's largest darknet marketplace'
Also, drug laws are saner than in then US (apart from cannabis legalisation) and nobody is out to get you for minor amounts of any drug. Even getting caught selling drugs will get you locked up guaranteed, if you don't pair that with criminal conspiracy.

However, buying or selling weapons is no joke here.

As a queer person myself, I think your trust in the "gay experience" of rich guys is dangerous.

We just had this Szajer scandal, where a powerful outspoken homophobe was caught in an gay orgy.

The gay experience (shame, rejection and discrimination) also comes with increased chance of "co-morbid" personality defects, which may be more pronounced worh exceptional wealth and status.

Queer solidarity by gay men is not a given anymore.

KraftKacke··on Ask HN: How to increase SWE salaries in Europe?
Can

You realize in Germany these "benefits" are available to literally every citizen, right? That means _every developer got this deal, here.

So here is the thing: You can get obscenely rich here, too.

What's your point, really? That you can get rich in America, as a dev? That rich people get all the benefits? Your take on parenting?

Really insightful information there. Thanks for sharing....

KraftKacke··on Ask HN: How to increase SWE salaries in Europe?
The guy in the video says people played, made art and fucked. Humans are not predators, we're opportunists by evolutionary trait turning hunters rather recently.
KraftKacke··on Ask HN: How to increase SWE salaries in Europe?
I recently learned, people worked less when we were hunter/gatherer, had more leisure time.

I don't want to skip on modern medicine and shit, but it does make you think...

And you think it may be just a translation problem...

But then you see this comment section and they actually mean it in a sense of biological essentialism. Figure, how much you have to unpack in every damn discussion... I would shoot myself twice, every day.

Da ist der Wurm drin.

Honest question: Do you think there _is systemic racism and sexism to any extent exceeding discrimination against white men?
KraftKacke··on Apple launches new Racial Equity and Justice Initiative projects
Apples and oranges. That's not a good thought experiment, it's a misguided one.
KraftKacke··on Apple launches new Racial Equity and Justice Initiative projects
"White" isn't a race. There is no such thing as biological races [1]. Discrimination against "black" people happens on the basis of legacy concepts of "race". There is no discrimination in absence of access/power differences.

(Yes, some "black" people don't get the race part either. And yes, some of them are dicks. And yes, Twitter sucks.)

I do think huge companies should take a stance on social justice issues, as they have a lot of power...

Both can be done, but the things you stated are the minimum, not optional, if they care about humans at all.

Fair and safe working conditions first. Duh.

Then enabling equality in access and participation. Apple is enforcing the social status quo, if they uphold economic entry barriers. Gender and race issues are important, but for the most part they manifest as class issues. Much safer and easier to become an iOS developer, if you're a white dude, than a black woman. If you live paycheck to paycheck, you can't afford a Mac for development or the AppStore license.

So doing both is important, but without tidying up your own yard, it's all just green washing a dirty white collar.

No. The cash helped develop a vaccine this fast, but further application comes with the recent innovation in the lipid nano particles for delivery. That was done before the pandemic.

KraftKacke··on Facebook Admits It Was Used to Incite Violence in Myanmar (2018)
Mapping DNA is not understanding genes. We know very, very little about the genome. In fact we're still discovering new mechanisms of encoding and meta-encoding. We can't even say where "genes" begin and where they end.

We identified a few single genes in _association with certain risks, but literally nothing is understood in complex interactions and how environment and genetics make for the concrete phenotype.

Transsexuality is related to brain anatomy, which... is about the most obvious complex system in the body...

Have you had any introduction to bioinformatics at all? Your enthusiastic futurism is uncalled for.

We also thought to be at the edge of AI in the 50s, thought the mystery of the brain was about to be illuminated with the introduction of fMRI and weather prediction is only marginally better at what farmers were capable of for thousands of years. Nobody can extensively model even a single cell today. Do you know how prostate cancer cells ultimately always evade androgen deprivation therapy? Me neither. Nobody does. All we are celebrating is "this transporter may play a role" types of "breakthrough", achieved by extensive experimentation.

Humans tend underestimate chaotic complexity...

And again, what are you even getting at? To understand and manipulate transsexuality completely, you need to understand and manipulate sex expression completely. It's pretty telling that you assume "parents" will chose to eliminate transsexuality exclusively. Why wouldn't you rather have intersex humans? There is no inherent value to sexual dimorphism and the sexual evolution likely isn't related to survival, but rather costly (see birds).

Snails do fine.

Clown fish do fine.

Sex is overrated.

You just want to construct a reason to be edgy on transsexuality... don't you?

Yes, phones do have microphones too. The were a confidentiality risk even before becoming mobile. You also have piping running through your house, which could be tapped, you don't even need microphones, and the EM field emitted by your monitor can be read across the street. So why even care? Why should I encrypt anything, if I can't even prove not living in an all powerful simulation?

Back on topic, it's not a phones intended purpose to snitch on you, they usually do not listen into the room, without extremely malicious manipulation, and more so you simply can not realistically avoid having a phone in your reach, today. If I were talking business I would probably leave the phone outside too, for that matter, and I don't trust cheap communication hardware, either.

In real life drawing analogies by principle doesn't make for a good argument, most of the time, as life is adaptation and compromise, not a path through a logical circuit.

Do you honestly not see an obvious difference between a phone and an Amazon wired device intended to record and remotely analyze what's happening in the room?

KraftKacke··on Amazon Echo Flex: Microphone mute button appears to be real and functional
To me it's unfathomable to have such a device around. I even feel uncomfortable with my neighbor having one (which I _hear him talking to).

I assume it's like reading the side effects of medication and think they are other people's problems somehow. How do people trade core privacy for setting the alarm or getting the weather report by voice command. I don't respect them. Same with off the shelf IP cameras in one's bedroom. Hello?

Air gapped speech recognition and FOSS, or this should never, ever become a thing.

This shitty mobile client can't do edits... Of course I mean test negative to rule out infection.
KraftKacke··on Moderna is announcing three new vaccine programs
"PCR" doesn't mean "more precise". It's limited to viral DNA/RNA presented. I don't think there is much HIV circulating, if you're not sero-converting. HIV isn't shedding constantly.

E.g. SARS2 PCR will often fail for blood samples.

KraftKacke··on Moderna is announcing three new vaccine programs
It's also very different if you shade the target disease tests, or of an unrelated pathogen. You'd only need to test positive before to rule out infection. It's not like your HIV status is known to anyone else, so it's a matter of information management, not risk inherently.

If we get an HIV vaccine it may also be therapeutic for HIV+ people. So far vaccine development wasn't getting anywhere because we're at loss with the nature of the virus. _If we find a persistent target, HIV may burn out in those infected and vaccinated. Seroconversion may then be something to look forward to.

KraftKacke··on Moderna is announcing three new vaccine programs
If the vaccine proves effective, you could do a test before and then vaccinate on negative knowing you test positive afterwards for a while.

It's very different to a false positive to _another pathogen. That leaves you blind, indeed.

KraftKacke··on Moderna is announcing three new vaccine programs
I think this was rather implying we put down dogs, if they break too expensive to fix. The vaccine was probably grinding through loads of "pets" in development.

Very different than "putting down" terminally ill people on their own choice and action.

Tho, maybe similar to the eugenic endeavors of the past. I hope you're not implying that's what's in debate again.

KraftKacke··on Moderna is announcing three new vaccine programs
Autoimmunity is so scary. It sucks that pathogens evolve to hide by exploiting the body's friendly fire avoidance.

Btw. the molecular mimicry of the spike protein may cause autoimmunity as well. Time will tell if that only applies to SARS2 or the vaccine as well.

No source: There was a paper on a model for cross reacting to normal cell proteins in /r/COVID19, but I am on mobile and blocked reddit everywhere now. Should be easy to find.
