KnightHawk3··on I don't like passkeys
I do it for small projects with about 10 infrequent users. They would ask me to reset it almost every time anyway.

Though next time I'll probably try oidc if I can find a common provider that isn't a hassle

KnightHawk3··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
Do you think they could ask for a backup
KnightHawk3··on GPT-6 Astra
Okay serious question, why not just write this down in your notes or something? Why use a language model for it.
KnightHawk3··on Get your Windows license refund
The crap part is a lot of niche phones got banned because you need to prove it can call triple zero not by default, so it'll be a real pain, and carriers don't really care.
KnightHawk3··on Get your Windows license refund
I just need a phone which can call triple zero in Australia, I all not yet aware of any.
KnightHawk3··on The Twelve-Factor App (2025)
I was deploying some dotnet app and it broke because the devs baked a config key into the image that was otherwise unset, which enabled it trying to start a SSL endpoint without a cert, thus breaking the app.
KnightHawk3··on The web server deployment model breaks at hobby scale
Why split the nix into so many VMs instead of just systemd units?
KnightHawk3··on KDE Plasma 6.8 Planning to End X11 Support, 95% of Plasma 6.6 Users on Wayland
HDR and multidisplay fractional scaling are two things that look better with your eyes that work best on Wayland.

I personally find colour management to work better than x11 lately, but that might not be for everyone.

KnightHawk3··on Guix for Development
I use nix, but I assume the same goes for guix, you write a package or run it with something that emulates a FHS (like steam-run, don't mind the name) and hope it works.

Writing a package is not as bad as it sounds, nix and guix have very little difference between "package maintainer" and "user" so most users probably can package software. Normally copying something from nixpkgs or similar will get you most the way there.

KnightHawk3··on Judge dismisses DMCA copyright claim in GitHub Copilot suit
There is a large gap between public domain and GPL. For starters if Copilot is emitting GPL code for closed source projects... that's copyright infringement.
KnightHawk3··on XZ backdoor: "It's RCE, not auth bypass, and gated/unreplayable."
doesnt track

if russian -> could be ...

why would being russian make it this? it could be if it was made in any country. they did this attack once, okay? but its not like other countries dont pay attention.

KnightHawk3··on LLaMA now goes faster on CPUs
did a search and I have no idea what you are talking about
KnightHawk3··on XZ backdoor: "It's RCE, not auth bypass, and gated/unreplayable."
Why does it have to be russian? Could be any country, even USA, China. I don't see why this sort of attack is limited to Russia.
KnightHawk3··on Bluesky Exploits
not really how i would post on articles about my work
KnightHawk3··on Australia gov wants telco Optus to pay for new passports for data breach victims
The best bit though, it will have a CRN on it. This CRN is the same as your drivers license. (at least in qld)

This means using a Drivers License / Proof of Age card is functionaly equivilant.

KnightHawk3··on Australian Government’s Bureau of Meteorology Can’t Do HTTPS
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-12/bureau-of-meteorology...

"Bureau of Meteorology hacked by foreign spies in massive malware attack, report shows"

Clearly someone has an interest in targeting it - who knows if HTTPS would actually mitigate the risks though. Doubt it would hurt and would not be that difficult. It shows the lack of maintaince in BOM that leads to events like this.

KnightHawk3··on Vaping-related lung injuries primarily linked to black-market products
Except Montana, and afaik other places, banned forms of nicotine vaping in response to this. Also the general public seems to think it's related to nicotine, not thc.
KnightHawk3··on Vaping-related lung injuries primarily linked to black-market products
What's the state of all the laws brought in against vapes under the pretence that nicotine vaping is causing the outbreak in lung illnesses.
KnightHawk3··on Game Boy Advance “Hello World” Using Zig
articles about rust don't have to include a link to "what is Rust" like this one does.
KnightHawk3··on Opioid crisis: Johnson and Johnson hit by landmark ruling
The fact it tries to downplay that millions of people are dying, and continue to die, ignoring that there is direct correlation between number of pills dumped in a state and deaths.

Worth noting she works for a conservative think tank, so I am not sure I am going to take her at face value for defending pharmaceutical corporations...

KnightHawk3··on Oregon Court Allows a Person to Choose Neither Sex
We can disagree on if trans people should be allowed to choose no sex, but intersex people should be allowed to choose ambigous / no sex as they may literally not have one (XXY chromosones etc).

Therefore it makes sense for the government to offically allow it, and if we allow people to change from male to female and female to male, why not either to no sex?

KnightHawk3··on Oregon Court Allows a Person to Choose Neither Sex
At the moment, if you are born with abnormal chromosones your genitals can be ambigous at birth, doctors to this day will perform a "corrective" surgery to make you "right"

Intersex people are not a fan of it for the most part and are calling for the practice to be illegal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersex

What you are describing is transgender people which is not intersex people, however both could have an ambigous gender.

KnightHawk3··on Oregon Court Allows a Person to Choose Neither Sex
Before people start saying "you can't be neither sex" (theres already one deaded), I would like to remind us that intersex people exist and can be indeterminate.
