Khelavaster··on Frozen human brain tissue works perfectly when thawed 18 months later
Frozen hamsters walk around again after being microwaved. So human brain tissue should work too...
Khelavaster··on The Weird Nerd comes with trade-offs
Introduce struggle sessions for supervisors of scientists like her. Clear the cruft quickly. Careerist ciminals have no place running research labs.
Khelavaster··on SpaceX conspiracy agreed by multiple AIs
This is a pretty clear fact. No conspiracy that we've been working on space missile defense systems since Star Wars
Khelavaster··on My simple theory on why we stopped building beautiful buildings
Read "The Timeless Way of Building" to see what builders of ugly buildings moved away from.
Khelavaster··on Early Evidence Supports Ketogenic Diet for Mental Illness
Good evidence that glucose restriction helps. Jury's totally out on ketogenic diet vs. other forms of glucose restriction..

Nobody compared it to a glycolysis-limiting gluconeogenesis-focused diet.

It sure is weird to support ketogenic diet without looking at other forms of glucose control.

Khelavaster··on New theory suggests time is an illusion created by quantum entanglement
Time has quantum oscillations as it's lowest unit of measure. This is alright.
Khelavaster··on What Negative Adjectives Mean to Your Brain
This has to do with how calcitonin-gene related peptide influences valence-assignment between good & bad genes in the amygdala.

Tied to the oxytocin-calcium homeostasis-calcium signalling pathways

Khelavaster··on What Negative Adjectives Mean to Your Brain
Marshall Goldsmith identified this many years ago... interesting lessons from unusual places.
Khelavaster··on Autistic people three times more likely to develop Parkinson's-like symptoms
Duh..? Lots of autistic people have less adrenocorticotropic hormone production, which implies less proopiomelanocortin so less alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone activity.

Autistic people have weaker substantia nigra, and symmetrically stronger bioenergetic drive from melanin-concentrating hormone.

This is a downstream effect from the persistently dysregulated AVPR2 activity & high body vasopressin that triggers a large chunk of "high functioning" autism.

Khelavaster··on Vector indexing all of Wikipedia on a laptop
This is how Microsoft powered it's academic paper search in 2016, before rolling it into Bing in 2020!
Khelavaster··on Understanding why autism symptoms sometimes improve amid fever
Oxytocin drives fevers. Oxytocin alleviates measurable autistic symptoms for measurable subsets of autistic people. This isn't a huge mystery.
Khelavaster··on Decades-Old Technology and a Paper from Meta Created an AI Industry Standard
More accurately, vector databases are Softmax'd eigendecompositions of the matrix representation of the graph of their connected members..

Khelavaster··on The British elite is haunted by childhood demons
Imagine if British you g adults held their parents accountable once they didn't have anything else useful to expect from them.
Khelavaster··on Gut microbes linked to fatty diet drive tumour growth
Context: Other tumors are linked to high sugar, and others still linked to high intake of proteins with certain amino acid..
Khelavaster··on Frozen human brain tissue brought back to life in major breakthrough
Lovelock was quick-freezing and microwave-thawing entire living hamsters in the mid 1900s. If it works on a whole hamster brain, it probably works in a sliver of human brain tissue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tdiKTSdE9Y
Khelavaster··on Scientists demystify why subsequent bouts of dengue are worse than first-time
This has been understood for a couple decades now.. the headline should be a little clearer about the innovation.
Khelavaster··on LLM in the wild astroturfing political opinions
As a mod to two subreddits?
Khelavaster··on Short term Accommodation needed in Bay Area/SF
This isn't news, try ask HN..
Khelavaster··on The microservices craze was perhaps the purest example of a ZIRP
Devs sometomes lose touch of the idea of modular libraries with package managers and OO interfaces, and end up tricked into using independently deploysble, independently managed modules for no good reason.
Khelavaster··on Could This Toad's Psychedelic Venom Be the Next Big Thing in Antidepressants?
5-meo-dmt is made by human neurons' INMT when aquaporin-1, corticotropin-realeasing-hormone-receptor 2, and other 7p14 genes get transcribed.
Khelavaster··on Does anyone know of a good book to understand colour theory/colour spaces/etc.?
Check out A Foreshadowing of 20st Century Art: The Color and Geometry of Early 13th Century Turkish Carpets. Move forward to On the Nature of Order.
Khelavaster··on Thinking about "corruption" in Africa. It a double standard?
Corrupt Americans accept funding corrupt Africans as long as they look clean enough on paper.

Africans normalize crime. Doesn't make it the right solution.

Laws are often easier to change than people.

Khelavaster··on "Nobody knows what they're doing" is a cope
"Nobody knows what they're doing" is degrading and hostile towards the people who mostly know what they're doing..
Khelavaster··on Rapamycin: Could a simple pill add years to your life?
it's a small local maximum of life extension. Rapamycin slows cellular regeneration as well as cellular degeneration.
Khelavaster··on Major Study Finds 15 Factors Linked to Early Dementia Risk
This is a lot more valuable when you line on up with the established "Bredesen Protocol" for treating cognitive decline. The FDA wouldn't approve the Bredesen Protocol because it affects too many variables for their analytical expertise.
Khelavaster··on Russia is targeting its foes abroad with killings, poisonings and harassment
Meanwhile, Boeing is targeting its foes domestically with killings, poisonings, and harassment.
Khelavaster··on Dopamine: Everything you need to know (and quite a bit more)
This title though...

Guess you don't need to know that dopamine was originally called "prolactin-inhibiting hormone" and strongly suppresses prolactin-driven physiology and behavior.

You also apparently don't need to understand how dopamine is made in melanated substantia nigra cells whose overall proliferation is cocontrolled by proopiomelanocortin breakdown products.

(The dopamine-prolactin-melanin linkage is why "big t**** goth gf" is a stereotype.)

Khelavaster··on Is My Khan Academy Profile Resume-Worthy for a Web Developer and Game Developer?
