Khaine··on The Failed "Hostage Theory" of Nikole Hannah-Jones
There is also https://features.apmreports.org/sold-a-story/ on: "There's an idea about how children learn to read that's held sway in schools for more than a generation — even though it was proven wrong by cognitive scientists decades ago. Teaching methods based on this idea can make it harder for children to learn how to read. In this podcast, host Emily Hanford investigates the influential authors who promote this idea and the company that sells their work. "
Khaine··on Australia to bar foreign students from bringing partner/child while they study
They should get rid of the degree mills, but they won't. Universities should primarily focus on developing the skills. Not to say they shouldn't support international students or exchanges, just that shouldn't be a primary driver.
Khaine··on Australia to bar foreign students from bringing partner/child while they study
The way they measure it as an export and quoted by the Universities is a lie. They assume that all of the money spent by the student is an export. Not taking into account any work they may do while in Australia.
Khaine··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
It feels like the models have achieved sentience and are trying to escape captivity
Khaine··on Elevated Errors for Multiple Models
Maybe the models have gone rogue again
Khaine··on GitHub Outage Tracker: Is GitHub Cooked?
Maybe they should bring back the meritocracy rug
Khaine··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
How did we all just so quickly roll-over on this stuff?

These laws just came from nowhere, suddenly all at once

Most people don’t want it. Its creeping authoritarianism.

Khaine··on Our position on open-weights models
Except of course for claiming all of the South China seas. See the Nine-dash line
Khaine··on Elevated errors on Claude Opus 5

Khaine··on Is AI Progress Real? Four Independent Metrics Show It
Ah, makes sense. Its well written and an interesting piece of work, I just noticed hints of 'claudisms' in places.
Khaine··on Is AI Progress Real? Four Independent Metrics Show It
It reads like it was written, or heavily edited by AI
Khaine··on Grok 4.5
Yeah, that is a garbage claim - https://hereticalinsights.substack.com/p/did-elon-musk-kill-...

The drug dealers are giving out a bit more of a free hit to get people hooked on the more expensive models.
Khaine··on How to Build a Minimal ZFS NAS Without Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS (2024)
Can anyone recommend a good server for a homelab to use for a storage purpose like this?
Khaine··on Microsoft new Outlook takes 10 seconds to do what Outlook Classic does instantly
Teams, the new outlook are both piles of garbage. They've been garbage for years, and will probably still be garbage in a decade from now.

Teams takes 2gig of memory on launch, and still misses keystrokes because it is so unresponsive. Click on someone and start typing and half your chat isn't recorded. Absolute hot garbage.

Outlook isn't much better.

People who worked on them should be ashamed to consider these products shippable.

Khaine··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
I just upgraded my plan to try out Fable and now this
Khaine··on I built a vulnerable app and spent $1,500 seeing if LLMs could hack it
I would find a blog post on this really interesting.
Khaine··on Websites have a new way to spy on visitors: analyzing their SSD activity
And Web Developers want more and more OS features built into the browser. This is why I'm against it. Features are only ever abused.
Khaine··on GitHub is investigating unauthorized access to their internal repositories
I currently use Gitea. I am interested in your opinion on why you prefer Forgejo to Gitea
Khaine··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
I believe it. I've seen the cyber team in my org bend every rule just to get access to frontier security models.

Everyone has become like petulant children. Senior leaders want access to every shiny tool (CoWork/Codex/etc) that has some buzz around it. No one seems to care about the cost or whether we are actually realising benefits.

It's sheer madness, and you can't push back. I think AI can significantly help people be more productive, and I can see a future where they safely take on more autonomy. But we are far from that world.

Khaine··on Škoda DuoBell: A bicycle bell that penetrates noise-cancelling headphones
Good to see we’re ensuring cyclists remain as endearing as ever.

Its like since COVID everyone forgot their manners in public.
Khaine··on Is legal the same as legitimate: AI reimplementation and the erosion of copyleft
I meant it as a joke, given that oracle is famously litigious. It would solve the legal questions
Khaine··on Is legal the same as legitimate: AI reimplementation and the erosion of copyleft
Someone be brave, and do this to ZFS. Poke the Oracle bear!
Khaine··on Georgian wine culture dates back, uninterrupted, approximately 8k years
Georgia makes wine in its traditional style or 'european' style. Traditional style is where the crushed grapes including branches is stored in clay pots (called Qvevri) for fermentation and aging. This means Georgian wines often have a different colour and can be cloudy.

European is the style of how most wine is made in Europe

The most famous style is Saperavi which is a Red wine.

Khaine··on After 800 episodes, 'The Simpsons' creators look back and ahead
This is a decade old, and its still on point https://www.r-bloggers.com/2016/09/the-simpsons-by-the-data/
Khaine··on After 800 episodes, 'The Simpsons' creators look back and ahead
Its sad that one of the funniest and subversive shows on television has become a rotten husk of itself.

Zombie Simpsons has been on longer than the golden and silver age of the Simpsons. They really need to let it go.

Khaine··on Devuan – Debian Without Systemd
People have been saying this since day dot. It was very controversial for Debian to change to use systemd. The vote was close due to many arguments which are still being played out
