KeyBoardG··on Windows 11: Just say no
I agree. There is a lot of fear mongering coming out of Microsoft now, like their "we can't promise security upgrades" for people who ISO install on unsupported hardware.
KeyBoardG··on Firefox 92
I'm interested as well since they had a layoff of the Servo team. Did they rebuild that team with unannounced hires? Outside contributions?
KeyBoardG··on Guide to Firefox Containers (2018)
Agreed, I love this. Just use a different hot-key to open a new tab that is in its own container.
KeyBoardG··on Zorin OS 16 is Released
Zorin is only paid for the Pro version which offers a few more layouts out of the box and different pre-installed apps, and support from them.

The standard core version (standard and lite as you mentioned) is completely free.

KeyBoardG··on Zorin OS 16 is Released
It is built on Gnome (3.38). The Zorin taskbar looks based on the Dash To Panel extension. Zorin ships with Gnome or XFCE for the light edition. There is no KDE spin.
KeyBoardG··on Surface Laptop 4
Like the previous version, they picked a generation old Ryzen chip and then they package it with slower and less ram and disk space than the Intel SKUs. Zen2 in this is still pretty good, but Zen3 came out 6 months ago at this point.

Microsoft <3 Intel
KeyBoardG··on HW accelerated Xwayland rendering for Nvidia merged
From what I gather its a chicken and egg issue. Wayland would get more attention and development if it had more users. It would have more users if it had more feature development. Although a lot of the bigger gaps are closed or closing now. OBS now works on Wayland as of 03/30/2021 and Fedora plans to ship Wayland as the default.
KeyBoardG··on Total Cookie Protection
I've been using an extension called Temporary Containers. Every site gets its unique instance and then it is destroyed afterwards.
KeyBoardG··on Hello system, a FreeBSD-based OS designed to resemble Mac
This. I wonder how much work it would take to get the Pantheon desktop running on FreeBSD if they wanted that as the base.
KeyBoardG··on Ruby: We have decided to go forward to 3.0 this year
and .Net Core becoming the standard .Net 5.0
KeyBoardG··on Xbox Project Scorpio Specs Exposed Eight CPU Cores, 40 GPU Cores, 12GB of GDDR5
AMD also sells the console chips at a very low profit margin. They benefit a bit from their name being on so many products as well as hoping that games are optimized for AMD hardware which will benefit their PC business side as well.

Well, that's the plan, but NVidia is kind of wiping the floor with them.

KeyBoardG··on .NET Core Web API on AWS Lambda Performance
Spin up time of WebAPI is shown here, but returning hard coded values isn't much more than a proof of concept. Once you connect to data, you have to look at spin up time of something like EF and context/model generation over and over. What happens when you get 20 controllers with many function and routing actually has to do some work.

Lambda also prevents any long running optimization such as output cacheing.

KeyBoardG··on Support for Hello discontinued in Firefox 49
I agree with PDF viewer being added. When browsers started adding full game rendering with 3d graphics libraries it crossed the line for me. They're using it as a delivery platform for anything and everything.
KeyBoardG··on Google Cast is now built-in to Chrome
Couldn't they just have the extension pre-installed with the ability to remove?
KeyBoardG··on Microsoft's Software is Malware
"Windows 8 on “mobile devices” is a jail: it censors the user's choice of application programs."

I laughed. I don't think its their choice that the app store is horrific.

KeyBoardG··on Microsoft Open Sources C# Compiler
Yea, it stood out to me that they demo'd Windows Phone first and that Nadella gave his talk in a t-shirt and jeans.
KeyBoardG··on Microsoft Open Sources C# Compiler
Anders has already demo'd this at Microsoft on Channel9 some months ago.
KeyBoardG··on Why Does Windows Have Terrible Battery Life?
This sounds very biased and uninformed. It really doesn't belong here. A simple look at the kernel level stability and perf gained from Vista => 7 => 8 => 8.1 show that it clearly isn't true.
KeyBoardG··on Working hard for the sake of working hard is laziness
And for someone who finds hard work fulfilling?
KeyBoardG··on The Surface 2
The new docking station and ability to drive high resolution displays is a lot more important than sites are recognizing. We can finally truly have 1 machine for everything on the go and docked at work or at home. No doubt it'll likely be more of a pleasure perhaps in a Surface Pro 3 that would be lighter and even more powerful.

I don't really see the current crop of convertible laptop/tablets as solving this problem due to low perf and the fact that I'd never be able to code all day on those cramped keyboards.

KeyBoardG··on Torvalds' response to whether RdRand could be compromised in the Linux kernel
Linus never fails to be a complete ass.
KeyBoardG··on Lessons from My Almost Failed Launch
"It was 8 hours after the launch and my launch had failed."

I know plenty of people who don't open emails until 8 hours later.

KeyBoardG··on Some AngularJS pitfalls
Thank you so much for writing this. My company is planning a move from Fat-client + in house server model to web based likely a SPA solution.

I've spent the entire weekend pouring over JS frameworks and have had a rough time trying to compare Angular vs Ember vs Knockout. From a newby, they all seem to be very similar without having written large systems with each to compare.

KeyBoardG··on Employ Engineers, Not Librarians. Get Serious about Documentation
I am really interested in good ways to influence change a fast paced companies who can't seem to take a step back and look at the money actually wasted.
KeyBoardG··on Sneak peek of Macaw – a code-savvy web design tool [video]
Really, really nice job, congrats. All your hard work really shows. Looking forward to this.
KeyBoardG··on Don’t Become Trained to Self Interrupt
This has also become a a key focus when organizing work for the team of developers I lead. I find that by rotating certain roles, developers avoid burnout as well and yearn for times when they can become fully engrossed with project work and be left alone.
KeyBoardG··on Miyamoto Admits Nintendo Underestimated The Switch To HD
And 3d games < 2003 were rubbish graphically compared to today. There was minimal AA and AF. There were almost no particle effects, shaders were just being thought about. Physics in games were a joke until HalfLife2.
KeyBoardG··on My startup is Microsoft-based, here's why
All that on one machine? I hope it doesnt go down and you lose your entire company. You should have several redundant instances.

You also breezed over the license costs for VisualStudio, Windows Serer, and SQL Server.

KeyBoardG··on Bad sleep 'dramatically' alters body
While I don't doubt the findings and won't argue the results, a group of 26 people is hardly a study. Give us the results of 260 or 2600 people, from different backgrounds.
