Dude... you're just framing it differently. You can easily look at UBI and taxes as they currently are as moneys from individuals that go into a large pot which is then spent to help the greater good. Roads do that, police do that, and so does public assistance programs like social security and welfare. But somehow UBI is different because it is cash? It's all the same. It does the same basic thing: lower income inequality.
It isn't "feeling" they have too much money and "deserving" it. It would be a calculated number that is used to maximize total utility of the economy. You're the one making the emotional argument here.
Not sure why anyone these days would oppose a system that would lower income inequality from the absurd point it has reached.

I definitely see your point - misaligned goals. I would hope that the level of impact would lead to great reputation and higher caliber students, pushing toward the best students and greater impact.
Metrics is a piece I have thought a lot about, and the best way I can think of to collect metrics on the graduates would be making the alumni network very strong and making sure they get so much out of the experience they want to give back. But you are right - the metrics would not be easy.
It is basically life coaching, getting the best students possible and giving them a leg up on their competition (peers in program). I believe a few weeks would give them a considerable leg up which could lead to greater success manifesting itself as higher GPA, better internships, early leadership experience etc. Plus, joining a network of other elite students could lead to substantial value.
Who will teach the classes? Well in theory the curriculum would be well made enough to not require an expert to teach. But, I envision having a few different instructors on staff for the different areas. For example, bringing in a personal trainer would help with fitness/nutrition.
The curriculum I have kinda dabbled with working on, but it would have to be adjusted for the actual "class" that is being taught. I bet with some time I could put together a really solid foundation of a curriculum just from my own experience and a good amount of research. For example, I spent a week with a freshman at the beginning of the year last year and was able to provide substantial value with just my general knowledge and experiences. With success, considerable time could go into putting it together, consulting with experts in each area would make the material much stronger.
Getting the word out to interested students is also a good one. Depends on which vehicle is being done. Could sell weekend camps to a high school directly or for the summer camp, advertising at elite high schools and the elite colleges students are getting into would work. I think filling a first group would be difficult, but a decent reputation and only... 50 available slots for a summer would be filled easily.
Thanks for reading!

Though if the FBI finds that the GM/high level execs knew about the activity... this will be unprecedented. The penalties would be staggering as MLB would want to crack down extremely hard to deter future bad behavior.
About: Senior, with 1 year to go at Bowling Green State University. Huge interest in data analytics. Looking for a summer internship where I can learn as much as possible. Any sort of business internship I would at least be interested in hearing about. I am hoping to work for a few years before starting a graduate data science degree.
But even if a parent is using them explicitly as a "the elf is watching and will report back to santa", while that is creepy, the step they are taking that it prepares children for the surveillance state is the stupides thing I have ever heard. You are taking a ridiculous step trying to extend what the elf on the shelf experience CAN BE with bad parents to psychologically/subconsciously preparing kids to be OK with the government spying on them as adults.
Even if you were to take that step, I would guess most parents don't use elf on the shelf in that very serious kind of way. It is honestly shitty parenting if anything.
