KeithMajhor··on How Software Companies Die (1995)
Except that being the author of Enders game speaks to his ability as a writer. His views on gay marriage are completely irrelevant in this context.
KeithMajhor··on Ask HN: Ominous email from PG
Submitting a story with a script doesn't mean it's automated, he could be writing his own client.
KeithMajhor··on The reverse job applicant
You were just talking about humility and now you're talking about how they're not special to _you_?
KeithMajhor··on The reverse job applicant
A person who "graduated with the best marks in MIT and has been programming since the womb" is special. The other people doing it "every single graduating year"... they're special too.
KeithMajhor··on The OS Doesn’t Matter…
The majority of available operating systems provide similar system interfaces. The same is not true for user experience, developer tools and APIs. His point is that these peripheral features will determine the success of operating systems.

Consumers are more concerned with the shape of a car than the engine that's inside.

KeithMajhor··on Ask HN: Am I the only one who's not in love with Google Instant?
Bing is making them nervous. Instant has gotten them a lot of attention and Bing doesn't have the infrastructure to imitate it.
KeithMajhor··on CPU vs. GPU
This is oversimplified. The whole demonstration plays like an advertisement.
KeithMajhor··on Boolean operation "trick"
A classmate of mine wrote something similar in C++ a while ago:

if ( Foo( ) == true ) { return false; } else { return true; }

The comparison to true is what really had me laughing.

KeithMajhor··on Youtube Instant creator gets instant job offer
He threw something together that people could get a feel for. I'll concede that it was hardly usable given the performance. But it was only a demo, enough of one to show just how usable the real thing could be.
KeithMajhor··on Youtube Instant creator gets instant job offer
a DAY!
KeithMajhor··on Youtube Instant creator gets instant job offer
He made it in a day.
KeithMajhor··on Heard of Google Instant? Well, I built YouTube Instant.
Awesome.

I love the single video. In my opinion, instant is far more useful here than it is for regular search. If only it were faster...

KeithMajhor··on Higher education bubble poised to burst
He didn't imply that. In fact it sounds like he's in favor of less college education. At least in the traditional sense.
KeithMajhor··on An update on JavaOne
Is Microsoft's runtime any more open? I've been more and more impressed with Mono lately. Does it potentially face the same issues Java is facing now?
KeithMajhor··on GTK+ gets CSS style theming
This change seems very much in line with the GNOME philosophy. It would _greatly_ simplify theme creation.
KeithMajhor··on There are three different meanings for the static keyword. It's a real pain.
As far as I know, a language with less keywords lends itself to a faster parser. That's the motivation behind using "auto" for type inference in C++0x, "auto" is already a keyword.
KeithMajhor··on 14 Years Old Kuwaiti Achieves 800,000 Downloads for His iPhone App
I've read several stories about kids like this but I never seem to hear about them later on. Were there any kids back in the 90's that are still active and somewhat popular today?
KeithMajhor··on Ask HN: What is an alternative to Google? Really.

KeithMajhor··on How a programmer reads a resume
What do I have to climb to understand what that means?
KeithMajhor··on Ask HN: What is an alternative to Google? Really.
"Start thinking about whether their interests are aligned with yours."

You're definitely right about that. That's why I commented on Microsoft's attempt to play nice. It's also why I'm concerned about the new face of Google. The more we punish/reward companies based on their actions the more their actions will begin to suit us.

"Stop thinking about corporations in terms of 'evil' and 'good'"

No. If enough people start "thinking about corporations in terms of 'evil' and 'good'" then evil will fail. Capitalism is about getting people what they want and rewarding the people who made it happen. We just need to make sure that less technically inclined people also want "good".

KeithMajhor··on How a programmer reads a resume
The fact that people have time to do that is disturbing to me.
KeithMajhor··on How a programmer reads a resume
I feel your sentiment. I don't use Facebook and I'm concerned about any negative implications that may have.
KeithMajhor··on Ask HN: What is an alternative to Google? Really.
With the upcoming work on IE9 I'm inclined to disagree. I've bashed on Microsoft as much as anyone else but things are changing. They're in position to grab a lot of favor for their brand. I'd love to see the day when benevolent and Microsoft weren't antonyms.
KeithMajhor··on How a programmer reads a resume
How does it look to HR or another programmer when an applicant doesn't have a Facebook account?
KeithMajhor··on Too much time on his hands
Shallow compliments do irritate me. It's not that I'm offended it's just that I don't know how to respond. There's nothing polite that wouldn't be equally shallow. A genuine and deliberate person is rare but valuable.
KeithMajhor··on Too much time on his hands
I am frequently offended by the things people say out of convention.
KeithMajhor··on Hey Google
I wish Google would turn on all it's dark fiber <http://news.cnet.com/Google-wants-dark-fiber/2100-1034_3-553.... I'm tired of charter, the service is terrible...

Didn't this get posted a little while ago?
KeithMajhor··on Ask HN: please review SmartPeople
It'd be really cool if you brought in the content of articles. That way you could follow real people outside of the Hacker News community (assuming that the content was posted on Hacker News). Then if a public figure like say, John Resig, made a post to his website I could get that in my feed as well.
