Jxl180··on Ask HN: Improving Voicemail
Online booking for starters. If I had to schedule a haircut over the phone, I’d find a new stylist.
Jxl180··on The British government asked when Microsoft would 'get rid' of algorithms
Microsoft will ditch algorithms when scientists ditch math.
Jxl180··on Bored Ape Yacht Club owner uses IP ownership rights to open restaurant
Just to show you how untrue your statement is: if you get a tattoo on your body, you don't own any rights to that tattoo -- the tattoo artist does. The tattoo artist of Mike Tysons face tattoo receives royalties anytime it's shown in marketing or on TV.

If you are an actor, the tattoo artist must grant permission to the production for the tattoo to be displayed (otherwise it must be covered up.)

Jxl180··on Tesla fired an employee after he posted driverless tech reviews on YouTube
Tesla has about 100,000 employees yet people seem to operate under the absurd assumption that Elon is in every meeting, in every scrum, and sits in a cubicle managing the HR department. This is most definitely the decision of legal and HR and there’s an excellent chance Elon Musk knows nothing about it.

I can be fired at my 10k employee company after 20 years of service and the CEO will never know of my existence.

Jxl180··on Ask HN: What recent art (last ~20 years) will be well known in 500 years?
That is definitely not ~20 years but I agree.
Jxl180··on Tesla fired an employee after he posted driverless tech reviews on YouTube
You don’t have free speech when it comes to your employment. If I made videos representative of my company or its tools when I don’t have the authority to publicly represent my company, I’d be shit canned too. That’s normal policy at corporations. Only specific roles are usually allowed to speak on behalf of the company and its products.
Jxl180··on Goldman Sachs is ordering employees back to the office 5 days (or more) a week
“Money never sleeps.” - Gordon Gekko. I know people who went into finance inspired by the movie Wall Street.
Jxl180··on We’re Doomed If We Don’t Secure Teslas and Infrastructure
Why does FSD seem to be the be-all-end-all of Tesla in many conversations? I ordered a Tesla and opted to not purchase FSD. I'll re-evaluate as time marches on (may even pay the $200 or whatever for a month when I have a long road trip), but even if FSD was never a thing, it's still a very fun and capable EV as-is.
Jxl180··on Ask HN: Are Gantt Charts Used in Industry
I live and die by gantt charts. As an engineer, if I'm convincing my company to spend a quarter million dollars per year on a tool, the business folks want to see I can productionalize it within the year and onboard everyone or else I've thrown away the equivalent of a Lamborghini.
Jxl180··on Ask HN: What the easiest and cheapest way for me to set up email?
What you're describing is a "catch-all" and most provide this including namecheap's email solution. Once you buy a domain, an email is a one click deploy with a catch-all setting.
Jxl180··on Tell HN: Google removes Russian news from results
You didn’t describe what is being decentralized in this case.
Jxl180··on New Yorkers with Marijuana Convictions Will Get First Retail Licenses
This isn’t a reward. This is a state making reparations to people whose lives they destroyed over draconian laws that shouldn’t have existed in the first place.
Jxl180··on Tell HN: Google removes Russian news from results
How does Web 3.0 attempt to solve for this?
Jxl180··on The phones in president Biden's Oval Office (2021)
What a fascinating website. The links in the article took me to topics even more interesting. Seemingly unimportant to the public, but still very interesting.
Jxl180··on Ask HN: Do people still use Meetup?
I never knew there was a payment model in Meetup. In every Meetup I’ve been in, the admin pays to host the Meetup.
Jxl180··on Tesla driver dies after his Model 3 stops on highway, gets hit by two other
How about highway/turnpike driving? Good there?
Jxl180··on US anti-Russia sanctions killed my business
Do you not consider Stripe a "large institution?" If Stripe allows these payments to process, they are a large institution profiting on fees despite the sanctions.
Jxl180··on Why I Quit a $450k Engineering Job at Netflix
> “Rest and vest”

Hmmm. I thought Netflix was famous for their “dream team” philosophy and “keeper test” where nearly everyone is constantly on the edge of receiving a “generous severance package” (“but don’t worry, at least you can say you played for a dream team!”)

Is this not the case anymore at Netflix?

Jxl180··on Ask HN: Any recommendation for a good History of Science book?
I honestly thought the book was written in the 80s or 90s. I didn’t know it was as recent as 2003. That’s totally on me.
Jxl180··on I'm common as muck and spent £150 to try a Michelin star restaurant
I'm pretty sure there’s a Michelin star food cart in Asia that is like $3/plate. Not every Michelin star restaurant is an expensive French experience.
Jxl180··on Ask HN: Any recommendation for a good History of Science book?
To be fair, I didn’t say he was wrong, I said it’s out of date.
Jxl180··on Ukraine's government raises crypto worth $8M in crowdfunding appeal
They are immediately liquidating it. This is a payment method, not an investment.
Jxl180··on Ask HN: Any recommendation for a good History of Science book?
It's just unfortunately very out of date. He says something like, "finding the Higgs-Boson Wil be a task for a different century" or something to that effect.
Jxl180··on I received a DMCA takedown request from Reddit for a YouTube NFT video
> A digital video without any cut with all the credits at the end and beginning of the video and with the link to the source in the comments?! Yes, reuploading someone else’s YouTube video is a shitty thing to do and a copyright violation. > you make a screenshot of every Bored Apes and you use it as your avatar with the credits to the original owner, is a copyright violation? No, it’s how a digital product works. No, that’s not how digital products work, and yes, it is a copyright violation. Giving credit doesn’t automatically grant you permission to use copyrighted material. Are you suggesting I can legally upload The Avengers to the internet in its entirety and it wouldn’t be a copyright violation as long as I leave the credits in? Or I can host an Adobe Photoshop binary as long as I give credit to Adobe?

You’re 100% in the wrong. Even Bored Apes has strict copyright licensing defined for their holders.

Jxl180··on Vanced: YouTube adblocker for Android
No refunds. You can't demand a refund from a movie theater because you hated a movie, and you can't return a new game to Best Buy because you hated the game. I don't understand why you'd imply YouTube content comes with any "satisfaction guarantee."
Jxl180··on Tell HN: Airbnb just stole me 5 minutes of my time adding dices
You really can't compare. I've booked Airbnb for $99 for an entire week in a one bedroom apartment in a city where a single hotel room was $350/night.
Jxl180··on FBI sounds alarm as QR code usage soars
I definitely enter urls into my address bar. It would be absurd to assume I’m alone. My meters are ppprk.com (for Passport Parking) so I type in ppprk.com.
Jxl180··on Ask HN: How many of you dream in code or find solution to a problem in sleep?
I don’t think I’ve ever dreamt in code, but I had a Tetris phase and I absolutely dreamt (and day dreamed) in Tetris.

In fact, dreaming (and thinking) in code (or any activity) is known as Tetris Syndrome or Tetris Effect.

Jxl180··on Twitter’s new CEO is taking ‘a few weeks’ of parental leave
I’ve yet to work at a company that didn’t have paternity leave.
Jxl180··on This was just bought for $23,702,160.16 USD
Or, more obvious answer, it's a $23 million ad given that the internet (including us) is now talking about Chain.com.
