Jtariiiii··on Vote on which of Hacker News' challenges for AI have been met
>How can you say it’s conclusively been done if it might have been stolen from a math researcher and was aided in unknown ways by a whole team of math researchers?

The solution to NS was categorically not stolen, nobody is alleging that OpenAI stole a complete solution to NS. The alleged theft was about a different set of related equations.

Jtariiiii··on Coyote v. Acme (1990)
I'm not sure how people asking to be paid for their labour is against the virtue of a board run by a venture capitalist entity.

Also Andrew Wiles working in secret for 7 years out of fear of someone scooping him.
Jtariiiii··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
>Just because something is legal and permitted by terms of service doesn't mean it's morally right.

What are you expecting OpenAI to do exactly if these mathematicians voluntarily submitted their prompts into ChatGPT's training data? Are they supposed to manually review all their data to make sure competing mathematicians didn't accidentally leave the "submit prompts" toggle on?

Or were they supposed to not try to solve Navier-Stokes, or were they supposed to just not tell anyone that they had solved it?

Jtariiiii··on It took a year to ship WebAssembly in Anubis
"it's not stopping anyone" and "it is stopping some people" are mutually exclusive statements.
Jtariiiii··on It took a year to ship WebAssembly in Anubis
The goal isn't to eliminate scrapers, its to prevent a distributed scraping network from requesting 10000 pages a second each from 10000 different websites.

>It’s not stopping anyone.

You could just spend 30 seconds googling instead of confidently asserting nonsense. There are plenty of people demonstrating that Anubis reduces bot traffic.

I don't think my survival hinges on my reluctance to read AI slop.

The ship has not sailed, I can just find a human who wrote words, and read them. And if they aren't human words, I will just, not read them.

Jtariiiii··on Doomscrolling Ourselves to Death
AI generated text isn't so hard to detect that people could get away with it. As long as you are reading a well reviewed book the chance of AI slop is very low.
Jtariiiii··on Doomscrolling ourselves to death
The average children's cartoon from the early 2000s has several orders of magnitude more value than the average tiktok feed.

The existence of slop in the 90s doesn't prove that slop is not more prominent in the 2020s.

Some people actually want to enjoy their moment to moment existence on this planet and not read garbage someone shat out.

It's just digital pollution.

I assume the filter deletes "Your" if its at the start of the title.
