They both tackle the same spot in time, the crossroad. Blow or getting funded / making revenue. You are right, but that is why I think they are bundeled.

JoseVigil··on Mean People Fail
Around Paul and Ycombinator there are a certain amount of policies that apply to the creation of killer startups and they have been very successful on proving them, being good is one.

A good person inside -and outside acting on behalf- of a company is definitely in the checklist for creating a great startup, I can personally tell. Modern leaders do not fit into the vertical violent commander type and simply loose followers without assembling.

However real life is much more grotesque, dantean and mean than that and bad people sometimes win. In my country there are lots of them and usually respond to a much larger and corrupted ecosystem.

JoseVigil··on Ask HN: What are you thankful for?
For having the chance to keep on trying.
JoseVigil··on Ask HN: I've learned a programming language – how do I solve problems with code?
You hit the nail on the head with a huge question, not sure if was on purpose or not but well done.

Your question is much more important than learning code even for a long time. That is a good start. Even super great developers never solve a real problem.

Solving a problem, demonstrating a business model and creating a successful start up are -to my eyes- more and less the same thing and takes years of extraordinary hard work, much more work than people at an office could even imagine.

My advice, watch all these videos are amazingly useful http://startupclass.samaltman.com and try to attach as much as possible to the advices.

Best of the luck! Great start.

Regards.

JoseVigil··on WatchKit
Thanks for the info Billy.

I think there has to be more touch events available than Force Touch. Seems a fairly trivial interaction.

Given the features page I assume the API should support more events. Digital Touch "implies" touch down-move-up:

http://www.apple.com/watch/features/

* Section 6-left, a heart drawn on the watch with the name Jamie.

"You don’t even have to use words. The Digital Touch features on Apple Watch give you fun, spontaneous ways to connect with other Apple Watch wearers, wrist to wrist."

* Below, a flower drawn on the watch with the name Eliza.

"Sketch. Use your finger to draw something quickly. Your friend on the other end can watch your drawing animate, then respond with a custom creation for you."

Hopefully is already there or else we might have to wait and see the touch API public for WWDC. Eager to play with it, if anybody has more information please share. Thanks!

Appreciate orand.

I wonder what fully app for watch means though. I am intrigued on the touch event support. There is something new called Force Touch.

JoseVigil··on WatchKit
hey orand, thanks for the summary.

You mentioned #4 will be available later next year, probably starting with a beta released at WWDC.

Is Apple actually saying this? If so, can you please share the source? I mean from Apple not macrumors.

JoseVigil··on Z Launcher
We have developed RKT Launcher http://www.gesturekit.com/rkt-launcher/ with a similar concept. Its based on gestureKit SDK http://www.gesturekit.com/ a cross platform gesture recognition tool.

You can find it on the PLAY store here http://bit.ly/1okJIfc and you have the souce code here https://github.com/RoamTouch/app-rktlauncher-android

JoseVigil··on Google Glass future clouded as some early believers lose faith
Most Advanced Yet Acceptable. When I saw first glass I thought using a prostheses as a dream object was not such a good idea.

Glass jumped stations to reach the head, a point still in premature interaction with a long distance of motion travel of the hands to control it. The head is like in another planet to be reached compared to a watch even a cellphone.

Google went all-in directly to the head when the way to go was wrist, arm, shoulder, neck and then head. In any of the cases the glass experience provided Google with rich information about wearable and its adoption.

I am not sure if Brin will compromise his figure that much in the future with early developed technologies. Even should have been discouraging as leader, but was not his fault since he believed.

Glass was and is a great lesson for the industry.

JoseVigil··on Why Is Google Blocking Inbox on Firefox?
There is always a conspiracy theory on everything Google does. I think this has nothing to do with that.

Besides, everyone that has a startup and fresh ideas is always "afraid" of Google next step not stepping on top of its startup.

This generates paranoid among us, its natural given the size of Google.

JoseVigil··on Y Combinator, a Two-Year-Old, and a Pregnant Wife
I am married with a seven years old beautiful boy.

The hardest part for me during these years of entrepreneurship have been the hassle of not giving enough financial resources to my family and instead putting money blindly into the company and project. In an "early" stage is likely and inevitable waste and mislead of money without exception.

That, in my opinion is the hardest part of all aside from the time spent and the amount of love given mentioned. Personal elections and freedom of choice is cool but when the live style of your family is affected turns cumbersome and contradictory. I can tell a lot about that.

Furthermore if the project fails, most of the time do, that money is gone and gone for the family too. Of course we all know that the experience pays off and the longer term economy will be much better, but at last.

During the journey, your mind plays tricks that opposes completely to a family type of thinking of saving and caring about moving money to and for the family.

Thats life, and part of the freedom of being moved by dreams and vision.

JoseVigil··on Ask HN: Would you use more gestures if would be easier?
No problem, thanks lot for the feedback and nice wishes.
JoseVigil··on Ask HN: Would you use more gestures if would be easier?
Nothing will beat a button, ever. Gestures are not more important than buttons, components, application and developers. But will need a new space in this new world, the one of the already arrived future.

Not even gestures being used by all the crowd all together will replace a binary and perfect button. However the world is changing fast and the evolution of the interaction with our computers, crowded with wearable vehicles household touch interfaces, Internet of things and so on, will definitely need a new approach on gestures. That's the reason we are trying to start a nice discussion about with the developers.

Our API enhances the ongoing apps. We created a non transparent overlay to have all the app components available however provide the alternative of having gestures enabled with a single line of code on any platform, designed on an online editor. It should not harm however have the alternative of doing them, under different accessibility scenarios and different body movements and ergonomics.

As you pointed out air gestures can be yet experimental and will definitely need more work on the input side. We think that our fingers are key as I expose it here at this blog http://www.gesturekit.com/side-effects-minority-report/ and I envision them having more alternatives to efficiently tackle more problems needing a deeper use of them touching rather than airing.

Hi Max,

Appreciate your feedback. I am going to do as you suggest and avoid going over the rules which I accept and respect. My apologies.

I learn doing, its part of my nature :). Was not aware notizing the post was out of bounds.

Thanks for the guide.

hi Minimaxir, we are far away from being a blef and its years of work behind this post.

Hope you can check this out please and would appreciate your feedback on this last reply.

a) product: http://www.gesturekit.com/ its cross and already works on iOS, Android and Web platforms.

You can check all plugins and demos here: http://www.gesturekit.com/learn/downloads/

This is our Github repo. https://github.com/RoamTouch

b) We have a nice crew of enthusiasts people around gesturekit and are following the project.

We will take the proper consideration and measures next time to avoid this.

Thanks very much for the feedback. Jose

JoseVigil··on [dead]
Thanks, the SDK is at present supporting touch gestures. We have plans to include different types of gestures including Myo type and air gestures.

It is not limited to launching apps, its pretty unlimited. You can create your own gestureset that can run on multiple platforms with an online editor and recorder app, gestures run on top of the app as a transparent no-intrusive overlay.

Integrating into your apps very easily, as ever seen, and does not interfere with the current components and work flow, reducing about 80% the development process.

I agree with the authors perspective. You want to give your dream up start pitching, if you want to make it real start working.
JoseVigil··on Dear Google, Thanks For Copying My Startup But You’re Doing It All Wrong
I congratulate the article's author for moving his product in a brave manner. I can also understand the feeling of the author however there are some things he should review. The name he has chosen is limited to this forum and an amount of tech guys, Google could have bought him but not with that name. On the other hand having Hangouts working this idea was only a matter of time before putting the user needs on the table.

JoseVigil··on My experience hiring a developer on Elance to build my first iPhone app
Mike experience did not look that bad after all, ultimately with some patience on his side he has an app up on the store. Either on the side of the client or on the developer there is a very hard work to do in order to accomplish a simple app. I think Mike underestimates the challenge and I wish him good luck on the development side, a new trip is waiting for him.
JoseVigil··on NSA Files Decoded: What the revelations mean for you
Not sure if I have seen such an elaborated article about a subject ever. Remarkable.
JoseVigil··on Android for all and the new Nexus 5
The story behind the scene to my eyes is Google removing out of the box apps from Android to leave it PLAY dependent 100% if possible %200. This means that no other store like Amazon will be able to create a second store based on Android with a fresh environment out of the box. Google says is due to modularity I say due to market strategy. As a clear example (apart from the clear explanation of the article, great article BTW) a feature released today on KiKat 4.4 is that WebView is based on Chromium, this means the sole purpose of only Google using WebView. If I where Amazon I would be reconsidering having to develop all again for future releases or today make a fair deal with Google.

However this is not bad news at all for startups like myself because of two things.

1) Google will spend about a year or two on refactoring Android to fully cope with PLAY dependence allowing some spare "time" for third party ideas on features that can advance outside Google internal teams.

2) Third party developer a are now in equal position to compete with Google applications to win terrain into Android future tiny out of the box. Basically on future ex-activated apps like mail for example.

JoseVigil··on Ask HN: What are you working on and why is it cool?
In India Tata developed a car called Nano for only $2000 (the prize of a motobike) that failed to meed expectations. Since you seem to be on the same path there are some tips that you could consider from the consumer perspective which caused people not buying. Why failed?. Though it is cheap should have not looked cheap. The effort on engineering made Nano am affordable $2000 car but less efforts on design and finishing made it fail. My suggestion, put your eyes on design and make it look nice and modern before flying. Congratulations!.
JoseVigil··on Need your opinion on PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse...shoot
Hi revorad,

Absolutely right about the video with the showcase. We are already working on a new script for it. These are the things that we will take care of before we launch. Thanks lot for the comment.

As regarding the game, I have already thought that but its a very drafted idea yet. I think this type of HTML game could help http://mrdoob.com/projects/chromeexperiments/ball_pool/

We will also put more tiny links on the home page to pay with in order to both enhance the concept and provide useful data to the user and small ads.

What do you think?.

Superb feedback.

JoseVigil··on Need your opinion on PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse...shoot
Because you can go faster.

The point is we want people to continue doing pinch, zoom and click so that padkite is used only when needed. In fact outside the circle you can do all that you already do.

It is not padkite OR the other thing, its padkite PLUS the other thing, which is very handy. What is good has to be kept.

But if you want to fly.....you just invoke it.

Thanks very much.

JoseVigil··on Need your opinion on PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse...shoot
Do you have a hammer in your hand fuzzythinker?. Cause I think you hit the nail on the head.

Definitely our logo and symbol '^' means to fly and that is what the app gives, power to fly. Invoking it on a friendly scenario for you with that gesture and using it would be really cool right?.

Many good ideas guys. Lots of stuff to consider today.

Excellent!. Lets fly!. Kind regards.

JoseVigil··on Need your opinion on PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse...shoot
Hi Anm,

Years of work worth reading your feedback, appreciate very much.

I am very interested what you say here: "My concern is that the primary multi-touch gestures chosen are two handed.". I think that ultimately there will have to be a standard for handed, but an evolved set of gestures. I am working on that, you know why?

I strongly believe that there has to be a balance in terms of handed gestures to execute on what has been selected (our innovation, do a gesture on a selection). There will be a time when gestures have to evolve to cope with demanding tasks at home with multiple touch devices in almost all glass/crystal/plastic surfaces, so there is going to be plenty of need. New types of gestures that can be learned and reproduced fast. Nor the palm graffiti type nor the imagery type (pinch, stretch, and swipe). New types.

Something is in the middle that can be worldwide interpreted and very easy to execute, that is the key. As an example we created the Twitter peak ">" gesture cause is fast and symbolic. That creation process has to be applied many more times again for new gestures with an implicit action and a symbol. Also the key can be to synthesize the gesture to a minimal expression.

Also, once the user has done the gesture four times, the fifth goes on its own. So its all about learning curve. We humans have a great ability to remember mechanical movements. I would love to have a more consistent scientific background. Any doctor around?.

This is the way I think we can overcome the real problem and concern you are pointing out and that I agree 100%. Of course tablet will be a superb place to run PadKite.

Great feedback, really.

JoseVigil··on Need your opinion on PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse...shoot
Hi zachrose,

Very interesting conversation, waited years for having them. Its good to see smart guys around.

Gestures are old, Palm graffiti did a lot already but was a different approach, they worked alone, not for the service of other gestures like ours. We are bringing in new gestures and overcoming the imagery gesture paradigm. First the selection gestures that we are "inventing" product of the offset pointer and the two button areas. And second type the graffiti type, which are a set of three to six gestures that the user will learn if he wants.

The novelty of what we are doing (quite a lot in terms of interaction) is that our graffiti type (we call it our GestureKit, in fact is a brand) works in conjunction and coordination with the selection gestures. It is an ongoing process of doing three movements, drag-select-gesture which makes it very fast and productive. The user could skip the latter but once the selection gesture finger is lifted up and the content selected is very handy to do a last touch down and make a gesture to command, for example the "S" for search on Google. It could be whatever really.

Try it and tell me what you think please. These are not just command line gesture, they belong to an interactive system that all parts together make things much faster. The users know already to do that by other means, we are offering to do it faster.

Thanks lot.
