Jonovono··on Sampling and structured outputs in LLMs
I love BAML. Surprised it’s not more popular. I can get structured outputs on any model even ones that don’t support json schema outputs etc
Jonovono··on iPhone Air
Same. I have 12 mini and got a 13 mini refurb. Perfect phone.
Jonovono··on Show HN: Amber – better Beeper, a modern all-in-one messenger
Interesting, i'd be curious to learn more. It's been awhile since I looked into Beeper/Texts type apps.
Jonovono··on Show HN: Amber – better Beeper, a modern all-in-one messenger
I think most of these are built using Matrix: https://matrix.org. They have connections with most providers like iMessage, FB, Instagram, etc
Jonovono··on Last Call Before AGI [video]
Agreed ! It showed up on my YouTube recommended and it’s been stuck in my head for days now.
Jonovono··on Show HN: OverType – A Markdown WYSIWYG editor that's just a textarea
Nice, I was playing around with Milkdown. it's pretty cool: https://milkdown.dev/playground. It's like a block editor like notion for markdown so you don't need the split pane markdown/preview either
Jonovono··on Occult books digitized and put online by Amsterdam’s Ritman Library
Somewhat related, but I randomly got suggested this video on Youtube when it only had a couple hundred views. He's turned it into a series, and I have quite enjoyed it. Somehow bridges user interfaces and occult stuff haha

Jonovono··on GPT-5
Just got into this guy the other day. He's definitely being proven more correct as each day passes, eh
Jonovono··on My take on a "IDE" for Claude Code with activities while you are vibe coding
Been using Cursor and Claude Code to build a pretty involved electron browser.

Wanted a little UI for Claude Code. Found I would always go to tiktok or instagram while waiting for the agent to complete my code. Wanted to play around with that idea a bit further so I decided to fork my electron app and make a little environment for vibe coding, that provides activities to do while you are waiting for the ai to code. Listen to music, browse HN, watch tbpn and play a massive multiplayer game.

At any rate, if you are building a electron app, I can confidently say its the best starter template to go off. Using Drizzle, effect ts to give strongly typed ipc bridge. On github: https://github.com/longtail-labs/slide.code

This uses the claude code sdk for typescript, which doesn't support everything the cli does so it may feel a bit limited if you are a CC power user.

Anyways, open to any feedback and any PRs!

Jonovono··on How OpenAI Is Turning Monopoly Money into Real Debt
Damm, this got removed from the front page of HN real quick haha
Jonovono··on Building better AI tools
My prompts are very lazy, off the cuff. Maybe I would see better gains if I spent some time on them, not sure.
Jonovono··on Building better AI tools
Since my job now is primarily a reviewer of (AI) code I find:

1) I'm able to work on more projects

2) The things I am able to work on are much larger in scope and ambition

3) I like to mentally build the idea in my head so I have something to review the generated code against. Either to guide the model in the direction I am thinking or get surprised and learn about alternate approaches.

It's also like you say, in the process, a lot more iterative and ideation is able to happen with Ai. So early on i'll ask it for examples in x language using y approach. I'll sit on that for a night and throw around tangentially related approaches in my head and then riff on what I came up with the next day

Jonovono··on Why Elixir? Common misconceptions
> But honestly, I’ve always felt like this objection was overblown. I’ve got nothing against static typing; some of my best friends use statically-typed programming languages.

lol

Jonovono··on Why Elixir? Common misconceptions
Ya, it one shotted a Server driven ui app using elixir backend, expo with phoenix channels. Was impressed.
Jonovono··on Stop Building AI Tools Backwards
I find it do this more now with AI than before.
Jonovono··on Show HN: Phind.design – Image editor & design tool powered by 4o / custom models
I tried a bunch. The popular one is Screen Studio, but its a crazy subscription price. I made this with Focusee (https://focusee.imobie.com), which from what I can tell has all the features but a one time price!
Jonovono··on Show HN: Phind.design – Image editor & design tool powered by 4o / custom models
LOL. Long story. But it's actually a word used in react native development. Back in the olden days before ChatGPT I was trying to figure out how to make a button "easier" to press. After digging around for a bit, came across this and I thought the name was so funny. I ended up buying the domain. Had no use for it. Decided to use it for this project as it kinda fit. Press on screen and [ai] slop comes out ;p

Jonovono··on Show HN: Phind.design – Image editor & design tool powered by 4o / custom models
Nice! I've been playing around with different interfaces for OAI image gen (supports flux and gemini too): https://www.hitslop.com/
Jonovono··on Swift-erlang-actor-system
Wow, unreal, thanks! I was playing around with Liveview native awhile back. Will definitely be following this along
Jonovono··on Swift-erlang-actor-system
Is there somewhere to follow this project? Sounds really interesting
Jonovono··on How I Use Kagi
Dang, this is a refreshing take. Going to take a look at Kagi.
Jonovono··on Data-Star.dev – v1 and Beyond
Datastar is super fun to work with. If you have played around with stuff like Phoenix LiveView. It feels like that, but much more lightweight.
Jonovono··on Flix – A powerful effect-oriented programming language
If you are in the JS ecosystem, you should check out Effect TS (https://effect.website)

It's a very fun time

Jonovono··on Show HN: I wrote a "web OS" based on the Apple Lisa's UI, with 1-bit graphics
Crazy cool, wow!
Jonovono··on Why I left my tech job to work on chronic pain
I've been using Bearable too. It's great and price is awesome, but data entry is so slow
Jonovono··on Spending Too Much Money on a Coding Agent
https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/sdk#typescrip...

`pathToClaudeCodeExecutable`!

Jonovono··on Spending Too Much Money on a Coding Agent
Claude code has an SDK, where you specify the path to the CC executable. So I believe thats how this works. Once you have set up claude code in your environment and authed with however you like, this will just use that executable in a new UI
Jonovono··on Encoding Jake Gyllenhaal into one million checkboxes (2024)
Reminds me of rasterbation!
Jonovono··on MCP: An (Accidentally) Universal Plugin System
You can use MCP to dynamically call different services, without ever having to use an LLM to decide.

With an LLM it would go

List MCP Tools -> Get User prompt -> Feed both into LLM -> LLM tells you what tools to call

You could skip the LLM aspect completely and get all tools and let the user at runtime pick the tool that "playsSong" for example

Jonovono··on MCP: An (Accidentally) Universal Plugin System
Now make the segment for MCPs ;p
