JohnAaronNelson··on Elon Musk owns Twitter: The story so far
How dystopian. Why not just build the matrix and be done with humanity.
JohnAaronNelson··on Elon Musk owns Twitter: The story so far
I appreciate your perspective. I used Twitter to follow industry news. But the people I cared about left and so did I. It’s so boring and pointless now. Absolutely no value to me anymore.

JohnAaronNelson··on I regret my website redesign
Don’t feel bad. The end result was positive. Sales increased enough that the cost will be made up in a few months. Person actually made out well considering the effect of the work.
JohnAaronNelson··on I regret my website redesign
FTA sales increased 66%
JohnAaronNelson··on How to stay informed without getting paralyzed by bad news
I want to be informed about current events and memes so that I can stay engaged with our culture.
JohnAaronNelson··on Keep the web free, say no to Web3 (2021)
This is highly presumptive. My experience as a human has shown me exactly the opposite. Humans are highly hierarchical.

Holding my child as she sleeps
JohnAaronNelson··on Let's Settle This
There is no objectively correct way to pronounce anything. The only correctness that matters is if you were understood correctly. In that case both are correct, but they each are different signals.
JohnAaronNelson··on Paradox of the perfect code editor
Speaking as a web developer, the need seems to be increasing despite the plethora of available no-code tools. Meanwhile, no-code websites seem to be locking people out of their walled gardens evermore (Facebook Groups is horrid)
JohnAaronNelson··on GitHub Copilot available for JetBrains and Neovim
A lot of TS React or Node

Sorry to tell you, but if you’re constantly, or even regularly, writing this much boilerplate code, then you probably need to change how you write code. Maybe try a different framework.

Tried it a bit. Not useful for me.

TLDR; the subtleness of its wrongness destroys my ability to follow my train of thought. I always had to take myself out of my train of thought and evaluate the correctness of the suggestion instead of just writing.

For simple things, intellisense, autocomplete and snippets are far more effective.

For anything more complex, I already know what I want to write.

For exploratory stuff I RTFM

copilot was ineffective at every level for me.

“You can get to know me better by the mask I put on”
JohnAaronNelson··on The metaverse is bullshit
How many people participate? Doesn’t seem like it would scale outside a small group. Once you get past that size, it becomes a clique and thus corrosive to team building. A small group will have a wonderful time, everyone else will resent them. The company will then crumble or become something different entirely

You may be right on some level. I’ve used VR a bit. Was kind of neat and novel at first. Made me want to puke after a five minutes of use.

Then again, I don’t game for the same reason.

That’s super weird. I’d look for a new job real quick if I was required to do stand up with be goggles in. WTF is wrong with people…

Rapport is built through authenticity and vulnerability, not fucking avatars.

Have you used it? My experience was quite atrocious. Copilot is not auto complete. It’s nonsense. I attempted to use it continuously for three weeks. I tried because I know someone who built it and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

It never prompted me with any code that was useful. It only ever slowed me down and caused me frustration. It’s nothing like Intellisense. It’s just trash.
