JimsonYang··on Crypto in 2026: Oh, This Is the Bad Place
>the only real use case that makes sense to me is giving people in developing countries...

The markets hasnt accepted that. In gaza the cost of using crypto for foreign exchange far exceeded the cost of using cash, or prederably a US bill.

People just simply trust paper bills in developing areas

JimsonYang··on AI's Affordability Crisis
The dependent idea is questionable- when your boss tells you to not use the most expesive models-you just dont

I would assume when price hikes happen either 1) less non technical people would vibecode as it doesnt impact the work that much 2) people use the cheaper chinese models 3)we're jamming ai into everything because were exploring. We will just niche down into use cases that provide high roi

JimsonYang··on Norway imposes near ban on AI in elementary school
I agree but unfortunately the US education budget is driven by test scores.

Unless theres strong evidence that test scores will increase, Karen from the PTA insists that her child be given access to their phone

JimsonYang··on Norway imposes near ban on AI in elementary school
A kid gets homework to do a writing assignment online. Kid goes on chatgpt. "Chatgpt do this work, heres the assignment' ctrl c + ctrl v Chatgpt spits out a good answer.

Kid spent no time doing homework and learned nothing

Or imagine a reading log(typing out what you read) to encourage a kid to read, you have AI that can copy and paste your homework for you

JimsonYang··on Norway imposes near ban on AI in elementary school
> Facing a broad decline in education test scores, the government in 2024 banned smartphones from schools and has given teachers back more powers to enforce discipline in the classroom.

I remember seeing an nyt article where there was mixed results on cell phone bans. While they increased socialization among students, the school didnt see better test scores.

We'll have to see if a ban on AI can improve test scores-I am bullish on the idea tho

JimsonYang··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
agree, there's always going to be a belief for a majority of people that by reading or doing this ONE trick, they can avoid the hard work and sacrifice needed to get to a place/do a task

we've seen it with exercise/dieting we've seen it with women/dating this types of things always persist

JimsonYang··on There is a shadow hanging over this Fable thing
When you get big enough, the govt is always going to want to get involved.

We've seen how social media sites have always been in contention with govs regarding free speech even tho theyre fundamentally a way for other people to socialize with one another

I seriously feel like there's easier ways for OpenAI to catch up to anthropic and it would be a waste of political capital that the idea of Sam pulling strings for this to happen seems highly unlikely
JimsonYang··on The Mirage of the Gifted Child

I found prompt injection is a little too obvious when I tested with Claude and Chatgpt, but I totally see candidates embellishing facts to pass the machine resume screening in order to get to a human.

i.e. I didn't 'made 200k worth of sales at company' rather 'I made 2 Million ARR worth of sales'

JimsonYang··on Reading for pleasure is sharply down among schoolkids, report shows
It is the phones fault and it affects more than kids. You see too many parents and grandparents buried on the phones. At least with boomers the tech adoption isnt as high

We should recognize its not a generational issue but something that affects us all-young and old

JimsonYang··on Nobody ever gets credit for fixing problems that never happened (2001) [pdf]
Its either end of the spectrum-you do the best job(top 10%) or your everyone else.

If you only do middle of the pack(for one reason or another-cost, talent, etc) you become incentivized to cause problems then fix it.

Thus a net negative to society

*Also recommend sonic-their pricing and service is top tier

Tbf when you dont care about ui-as most backend devs do- Claude creating UI is perfect

Imo UI is bifurcated. Its either not impressive(most websites) or there was immense effort put into it(like posthogs site).

So for a small project where im focusing on shipping speed and feature building, yeah tailwin is being used because I dont want to do motion design rn

given the fact, people don't even pay attention when people record with Meta glasses(or know about it), putting a small led on a small device to let people know they're being recorded is not a sufficient solution to the privacy issues

JimsonYang··on Show HN: A social feed with no algo where communities decide what gets seen
Just saw this, it still feels like youre focusing on what demand side of the equation.

Stuff like better content, bots, and transparency don’t really affect me. Now engagement with me=>now you got my attention.

It can be hard or tedious to even get comments on other platforms. TikTok you need 1 month of videos while on LinkedIn the sweet spot is around 2k+ followers. I don’t really care how you do it, but if you’re able to create a hacker news ecosystem but for mass social media-that’s awesome

JimsonYang··on ChatGPT Images 2.0
> you can make your own mangas

No you can’t.

You still have the studio ghibili look from the video. The issue of generating manga was the quality of characters, there’s multiple software to place your frame.

But I am hopeful. If I put in a single frame, can it carry over that style for the next images? It would be game changing if a chat could have its own art style

JimsonYang··on OpenAI ad partner now selling ChatGPT ad placements based on “prompt relevance”
There’s a misunderstanding. I’m not talking about AEO

It’s about how Meta and google provides good data about audiences but I need more detailed info about a person(they’re exact shopping habits)

As the person responsible for GTM, I would gladly pay $60CPM if I can say “I would like to target all people who said they love crunchy peanut butter and consistently ask ChatGPT for peanut butter ideas”

I have no idea what they’re trying to pitch with the “we’re at the last step of the transaction” idea-but I also understand the regulatory issues with what advertisers like me want

JimsonYang··on Clanker
I heard this term being used for people who either use or support AI
JimsonYang··on OpenAI ad partner now selling ChatGPT ad placements based on “prompt relevance”
Tbh it doesn’t even need that. Just a way for advertisers to say “I want to target people who have bought peanut butter in the last 2 weeks”(I’m a jelly seller). That alone would beat FB and Google.

ChatGPT is collecting your data fs so advertisers can go ultra niche targeting
