Jgrubb··on Your data model is your destiny
I totally agree and would like to shill for the FOCUS project - https://focus.finops.org/focus-specification/ - which is an open source project to normalize and standardize the billing format of cloud vendors and Saas vendors alike. It brings greater transparency and efficiency to understanding that massive cloud bill your company pays every month.

I've used this schema to merge together AWS, GCP, and Azure into 1 unified cloud bill, which unlocks a ton of understanding of where the money is going inside the cloud bills.

Wow, I missed that one. That is a truly bizarre post.
Jgrubb··on How I influence tech company politics as a staff software engineer
> The important thing is to have a detailed, effective program of work ready to go for whatever the flavor of the month is.

This is basically my theory of how things get done in Washington. There's no grand plan most of the time, just an army of operatives ready with a slide deck to pitch when the conditions for an idea present themselves.

I love a good analogy. This is not a good analogy.

As a former sales engineer - it's more about setting expectations correctly. If the customer knows the shortcomings (as well as the benefits) and signs anyway it's usually a good partnership. If the customer finds them out after the contract, then it's the opposite.

Apparently by using a combo of Gen Z slang and affecting a queer persona you can get sota models to help you cook meth and build bombs.

100% with you. I thought I loved writing code until a few months ago when I was able to tell an LLM exactly how I wanted it done, exactly the structure and the goals for today. I realized that I love getting stuff done and that writing code was the price I had to pay in terms of my time.

Jgrubb··on If nothing is curated, how do we find things
At a beach rental house this week and they have some sort of internet television and no cable with a guide of channels playing whatever right now. I can stream anything I want at any time but I can't just watch the hockey game that's on right now without signing into something. It shouldn't be this hard.

We keep a Sirius subscription even though it occurred to me 10 years ago that Apple Music has largely everything I need. I want, however, to hear stuff I don't like that forces me to change the channel to another station or to be exposed to something new that's not like the last thing the algorithm already knows I like.

Infinite choice is horrible.

Same. I had a couple extra ESP boards from an order where I only needed one, an extra breadboard and humidity/temp sensor and decided to finally measure the temp out in the greenhouse. It's amazing to have all that in a grafana dash running on a r pi.

Or 3) forcing the dip, buying the dip, lifting the conditions that caused the dip and profiting like nobody in history.

This is all very simple. There is no plan, there is no us, there is no future. There is only him, now, and a revolving list of people trying to ride his coattails to more power for themselves.
