JetSpiegel··on Saving another 100TB of RAM
Clouflare is modern day Crypto AG, performance is the side deal they use for recruiting.
JetSpiegel··on She couldn't afford retirement in the US, so she relocated to Portugal
I went and checked, a big house in Porto, in the Marquês area (very much one of those purple streets in Monopoly) goes for over a million euros, and she casually mentions she bought two!

Five years ago the golden visas was still in effect, so the A2 language thing is just for show, she bought a luxury home so she has permanent residency.

Of course the healthcare is great compared to the US, she doesn't work so doesn't pay taxes to fund it. It's probably genuinely top of the line, there are several central hospitals in almost walking distance.

So this is like a profile of someone who bought a house in Brooklyn that likes to walk in Central Park and go to Bellevue for free.

At least she lives in the house, it's better than leeching off some working family with usury rents.

A 4k a month salary puts you in the top 10% of earners, make sure your guillotine insurance is in order.
JetSpiegel··on Show HN: We automated Portugal visa appointment checks with computer-use agents
So, it's not automated and the title is a lie? Just submarine marketing for "digital nomads" to come buy overpriced shit and crowd out the locals.
JetSpiegel··on Show HN: We automated Portugal visa appointment checks with computer-use agents
If it's automated, why bill nearly 2 grand? For running a script?
JetSpiegel··on Mythos Finds a Curl Vulnerability
Is it growing?

Don't they report annualized revenue AKA the best month times 12? How is that comparable?

JetSpiegel··on Anduril, Palantir and SpaceX are changing how America wages war
Some of those missiles go up to 12M$, they launch several of them at once, and the estimate on the drone price might be 7k$.

In can the math was not lopsided enough.

JetSpiegel··on FBI looks into dead or missing scientists tied to NASA, Blue Origin, SpaceX
They might be counting sightings over Israel, Iran, and GCC countries.

I have seen many social media videos of fireballs in the sky in the last few months.

Taking a gun to protect from rattlesnakes? Why not a big stick?
JetSpiegel··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
It's not a tax, Tim Apple gave him the gold personally, with cameras in tow, he did not submit the ACH data to the IRS.

It's bending the knee.

Why degrade himself, what can Trump do that their trillions cannot cushion?

JetSpiegel··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
> So you think he is a Trump supporter, then?

He literally gave him a gold trophy! How is that not support? It's beyond compliance in advance.

To a president hell-bent on overturning Obergefell v Hodges, even.

He gave him more gold than Maria Corina Machado.

JetSpiegel··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
> no overt politics

Excuse me? Giving a literal gold trophy to the God-Emperor Trump is not politics?

JetSpiegel··on Astral to Join OpenAI
"Someone" was the original mysql creator. It was a brilliant way to get Oracle cash then havr his own company. Getting a cake, and eat it too.
JetSpiegel··on US Military leaders meet with Anthropic to argue against Claude safeguards
Bannon was already jailed for failing to adhere to a congressional subpoena.

What he probably means is being killed in prison, "suicided" when the cameras are mysteriously off, but this doesn't make sense, he's in the side of the oligarchs.

JetSpiegel··on The Pentagon threatens Anthropic
They would leave to what company? Microsoft? OpenAI? Grok? All those are defense contractors as well.

Now, if you said "the Deepseek" guys, that would be different.

JetSpiegel··on Portugal: The First Global Empire (2015)
Mayve he will come back on the 500th aniversary, looking forward to that.
JetSpiegel··on Portugal: The First Global Empire (2015)
> Navegações

You mean "Descobrimentos", although that is kinda old fashioned.

They were "discovering" lands, the same way I discover Disneyland when I get there from the first time.

JetSpiegel··on Portugal: The First Global Empire (2015)
Also unmentioned is the disastrous intervention in the Moroccan civil war of 1580, where the teen king and most of its nobles were killed, leading to 60 years of Spanish rule. This is not at the apex of the empire, but close.

Also, Henry the Navigator downright stole or cajoled most of the "inovations" from Italian city states. For example, the Madeira island was named so by Italians, settled by some of Henry's minions.

JetSpiegel··on I'm not worried about AI job loss
Well, Google just raised prices by 30% on the GSuite "due to AI value delivered", but you can't even opt out, so even revenue is a bullshit metric.
JetSpiegel··on Roomba maker goes bankrupt, Chinese owner emerges
The Chinese company has outstanding loans, it's not an "acquisition" per-se. It's the Chinese supplier getting made whole.
JetSpiegel··on Stop Breaking TLS
Yes, but Cloudflare is not under your control, that's the point.
JetSpiegel··on Stop Breaking TLS
How is that not a MITM? Just because it's the modern day CryptoAG?
JetSpiegel··on Netflix to Acquire Warner Bros
Yeah, "blocked" is a misleading word, if they merged anyway.
JetSpiegel··on Netflix to Acquire Warner Bros
It was real for the actors, som ehad really fled the Nazis (including the ones playing the Nazis).
JetSpiegel··on Removing XSLT for a more secure browser
In that case, they should not call Chrome a web browser, it's AOL all over again.
JetSpiegel··on Removing XSLT for a more secure browser
What are you talking about, "free labor"? They are using the damn library, Google would benefit directly.
JetSpiegel··on 1X Neo – Home Robot - Pre Order
That "on average" is load bearing, does it include Queen Victoria? Just like ICE "allows" people to stay at Aligator Alcatraz. They should be paying rent!

Of course, the indentured servants payed rent in kind, with their bodies, whether they like it or not.

JetSpiegel··on 1X Neo – Home Robot - Pre Order
> It wasn't for free

Say whaat? The woman's father literally paid good money to have her taken away. Everyone but the woman saw cash changing hands, but she was legally barred from owning property.

Freedom was for men.

JetSpiegel··on 1X Neo – Home Robot - Pre Order
If her job is so worthless, why not go without and accept the (by definition) small diminishing utility.

This is false, having a clean house, clean dishes, cooked food is extremely valuable, but this is mot captured by money, because half of the population were basically indentured servants that were culturally expected to provide this work for free.

JetSpiegel··on Tim Bray on Grokipedia
So, are monks and nuns mentally ill?

Any condition that causes men to be so sex-starved, they take it out on kids is maladaptative, and yet it hasn't abated for millenia.
