Jemm··on Turning an old Amazon Kindle into a eInk development platform (2021)
While cool, ultimately not usable due to the very limited hardware.
Jemm··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
https://sim.mycnc.app/ A CNC simulator that runs in the browser or as a PwA. I wrote this mostly for myself to compliment a g-code sender I am also working on https://mycnc.app/ . The simulator has some basic g-code and cut verification and analysis built in with more to come.

I am learning hobby CNC having come from the 3D printer world and I found that the CNC software is considerably more complex than today's 3D printer software.

CNC seems to be the next hobbyist maker boom with the likes of Makera and Nestworks having very successful Kickstarters.

Jemm··on GrapheneOS is the only Android OS providing full security patches
There are millions if not billions of older devices. What we need is an OS that support those.
Jemm··on Why we can’t quit Excel
For many of the people I see stuck on spreadsheets, Excel is at the limit of what they can comprehend.
Jemm··on Cloud-Init on Raspberry Pi OS
And now there are even more outdated tutorials. Not great for a 'beginner' platform
Jemm··on How to repurpose your old phone into a web server
I use my old phone to proxy serial data to tcp. Also gives me macros and a video/audio feed. But most relevant to this is it has a built in webserver.

Jemm··on iPhone Pocket

Jemm··on Why aren't smart people happier?
In my opinion the reason that intelligent people aren't happier is because we live in a world that caters to lower intelligence crowds. Think being above above average height and living in a world where everything is designed for people who are below average height.

The second reason is that society not only does not value intelligence; society values sub average intelligence. Most intelligent or even diligent people learned quickly that they will be harassed and bullied.

The last refuge of intelligence was academia, but academia does not want intelligent people. Academia wants people who will comply and play the funding game without rocking the money boat. Just ask Sabine Hossenfelder.

Jemm··on Visopsys: OS maintained by a single developer since 1997

Jemm··on Radar footage shows Hellfire missile fired by US Military bounce off UFO
I hope they bring back Elvis!
Jemm··on Is it possible to allow sideloading and keep users safe?
Blocking sideloading under the pretense that it "keeps people safe", is bullshit. Google is taking steps to build their wall a lot higher.
Jemm··on Colombia seizes first unmanned narco-submarine with Starlink antenna
Applies to corporations as well but they do it legally and we consider part of our 'economy'. Heck we even subsidize them and give them the power to lobby and legally be a 'person'.

- Problem? What Problem? I don't see no stinkin' Problem!

Jemm··on Someone at YouTube needs glasses
Youtube has always been an abomination. I pause a video to see a detail and the UI covers the video in suggestions and nonsense when in full screen mode.
Jemm··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (April 2025)
