Very meta.

Consenting adults should be sufficient.

Jamwinner··on What to know before you buy or install an Amazon Ring camera
And encrypt them locally before upload.
Jamwinner··on You have a set amount of “weirdness points” – spend them wisely (2014)
There is no scale of weirdness, and the idea alone is toxic. If you contribute in a positive way, people accept you, because you have made yourself useful. Beyond providing value, and not destroying it, 'weirdness' only incurs the occasional wrath of red tape.

Be weird, or don't. There is no fucking quota.

Jamwinner··on Drew Houston Joins Facebook Board of Directors
Would anyone like to explaon why they disagree here? I see this being greyed out without any rebuttal. This seems SOP for facebook lately.
Jamwinner··on Twitter says an attacker used its API to match usernames to phone numbers
Exactly. These people are petting the dog after it attacks their kid, oblivious to the training they are offering and reinforcing. We as a collective are just teaching big tech how to more effectively enslave us for profit.
Jamwinner··on Berkeley Weeded Out Job Applicants Who Didn't Propose Plans to Advance Diversity
That seems to be the trend. 'If you're not a facist, you're a nazi' looks to be the hip discourse lately. I have never been more happy, or genuinely nervous to be unaffiliated with any political movement burdened by other members.

Still though, remember the left, the right, the facists, the nazis, the whigs, and even stalin all think they were doing the right thing, and saving humanity by making hard choices at the expense of others. Power, no matter how it is held, can and will bulldoze the powerless, no matter who they are.

Jamwinner··on Rescuing vintage arcade video games from an abandoned ship (2016)
Most is now reproduced for restoration. Even a well perserved cabinet has a bit of fading and wilting of the marquees and screen frame by now, not to mention the sides and control surfaces.
Jamwinner··on Tesla's self driving algorithm's overlay [video]
Because it hasent happened? The roadrunner gag comes up every few years only to be debunked (by snopes and others). Computer vision is fooled by many things that are still very obvious to the human observer.
Jamwinner··on Am I Unique?
Pretty decent. I enable for one of 10 i'd say, and leave a whole lot more sites that require it needlessly without shedding any tears.
Jamwinner··on Am I Unique?
Many places will increase prices with low battery as a despiration tactic. Its shady af and should be illegal imho.
Jamwinner··on Am I Unique?
Most crawlers/bots, particularly the ones you want to be able to identify, spoof their user agent, making this mostly moot.
Jamwinner··on OK Doomer
Most people I knew burned a copy of the cd, and proceeded to wear it out in their cd player. Back then they just coded half the cd as audio and the CD was basically the new NIN ep. Those were the magic and fusturating days of bonus content on CDs. I wonder how such content will be saved in the future? Playing "hidden track.mp3" really isnt the same as finding track 99 and hearing a song after the 10min of silence buffer to fool you.
Jamwinner··on Honk more, wait more: Mumbai traffic police introduce the ‘punishing signal’
I own a few of them, as do I cars. I have so far managed not to murder anyone with either. Whats your point? We also have a lot of crime and an individualist attitude, and some large unintergrated culture bubbles which likely contribute more.

Murder is in the intent, not the tool.

Jamwinner··on Honk more, wait more: Mumbai traffic police introduce the ‘punishing signal’
Does enforcement count as infrastructure? As discussed, laws/signs without enforcement do little. Is seeing police that rare that everyone would risk it? Accountibility is foremost before progress.
Jamwinner··on Honk more, wait more: Mumbai traffic police introduce the ‘punishing signal’
Tolerating packs of stray fogs is the actions (or perhaps inaction) of men, only manifest as dogs.
Jamwinner··on Hippos have become an invasive species in Colombia
Sell hippo tags. Hunters will pay you to solve the problem.
Jamwinner··on Google Maps Hacks
Went back to using maps, with a quick glance at traffic cameras in problem spots, it gets me there faster, and with _less distraction_.
Jamwinner··on Google Maps Hacks
Is it? I think we can decide for ourselves.
Jamwinner··on China to inject $174B of liquidity on Monday as markets reopen
Denmark is nothing like china besides being a country. If china wants to be compared favorably to other contries, the need to act favorible to most countries. Full stop.
Jamwinner··on Health-records software pushed opioids to doctors in secret deal with drugmaker
The people defending these types of actions here make me sick. What the hell.
Jamwinner··on Health-records software pushed opioids to doctors in secret deal with drugmaker
Its pretty clear thats not what he means at all. He means manipulated by having unneeded highlu addictive drugs pushed on people who don't need them, many times destroyinh their lives in the process. That manipulation. Why are you being purposefully dense?
Jamwinner··on The text adventure game of exiting a Telnet session
Banning an ip block is always a bonehead move. Its trivial for an attacker to change ips, fix the root problem.
Jamwinner··on Airbus ran ‘massive’ bribery scheme to win orders
You can just generalize to anywhere run by humans.
Jamwinner··on WHO declares coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency
Thats like saying the person died form lack of blood after being shot. Its technically correct, but actually useless.
Jamwinner··on Ask HN: Has your YouTube started recommending obscure videos?
I wish. I just get the same reccomendations, mostly (96%) from my subscribed channels.
Jamwinner··on Ending the Era of the U.S. Survey Foot
No the difference is that we process wood now. Look up dimensional lumber. Its confusing, but makes sense if looked at historically. Iy is not shrinkflation or any other such nonsense.
Jamwinner··on Ask HN: How do we stop the polarization/toxicicity filling the web?
Yeah, I agreed until his comment went off the rails there. I have noticed a movement to try to brand libs as 'crypto-republicans' recently for whatever reason. Its okay, and rational to not only think along 2 (or 3 or 5) party lines.
Jamwinner··on Ask HN: How do we stop the polarization/toxicicity filling the web?
That esclated quickly. I think your extreme examples are not really the norm, nor an accurate representation in general. This just makes the radicalization worse.
Jamwinner··on Ask HN: How do we stop the polarization/toxicicity filling the web?
Bingo. In the 90s, you had to be pretty smart (and wealthy or near a decent school) just to know what the internet was, how to get access, and then do something useful or fun with it. Now, everyone uses it to pay their taxes, order soap, and use facebook. However the quality, while always full of trolls, has dropped imho.
Jamwinner··on The Colorado mystery drones weren’t real
This kind of 'Journalism' exemplifies my feelings about vice news. Sensentional, missing the point of the core premise, and sporting a profoundly misleading headline.
