Jamesbeam··on Tennessee inmate still alive after being administered two lethal injections
At least the press in Nazi Germany is honest when they witness the regime botching an execution:

> In a news conference Wednesday night, journalists who witnessed the attempted execution described snoring and complaints from Pike about pain, as well as her kicking her feet so often that she knocked off the sheets laid on her. At times, the curtain was closed and journalists could only hear sounds.

Glad the Nazi Supreme Court stepped in and honourable judges put their name under the order that allowed this to happen.

It’s easy to sign someone’s death warrant as long as you’re not the one having to press the buttons or pulling the trigger.

But I am sure this whole thing makes for a nice laugh at the next ballroom dinner with the president for the conservative majority of the judges.

May their lobster always taste bland and the oysters give them diarrhea.

Jamesbeam··on FBI Announces ShinyHunters Arrest
What’s most interesting with these statements is always what is written between the lines.

This was very low-hanging fruit, that’s why the assistant director of cyber announced the arrest. Or maybe Ka$h was still hungover from emptying one of his personalised Whisky bottles and they couldn’t get him out of bed.

The FBI works in mysterious ways.

The Dutch authorities themselves do not credit the FBI specifically operationally btw.

https://www.politie.nl/headless-api/nieuws/2026/september/29...

> That's exactly how the best athlete model in the new FBI Cyber Strategy is meant to work: the partner with the strongest authority and access leads.

I think if you throw around intelligence jargon you should explain it to the people you try to address. Best Athlete model is a concept the CIA started using when they couldn’t get any further in the war on terror, around 2007 / 2008.

In this case it basically means:

CIA might have the human source. NSA might have the technical access. FBI might have the domestic legal authority. Dutch police might possess arrest jurisdiction.

So they let the Dutch police lead and if they fuck up they can blame them, while if they are successful they will credit themselves to the operational success, like seen here. Lazy but clever CIA mofos. I love em.

On a sidenote, that concept was put into place at the FBI around the same time by former FBI Director Mueller who was a USMC Vietnam veteran with operational experience.

You might have heard the name from being the special investigator for the alleged Trump/Russia connections or the Lockerbie bombing. Mueller passed this march and served the American people well.

If a man’s greatness is measured in how the enemies of the American people talk about him after his death. I think you did pretty well if Donald Trump publicly states he is glad you’re dead.

So now you know what that term means and where it came from.

> Arrests have a way of changing who is willing to talk, and seized infrastructure has a way of showing us who's left. The longer you stay in this, the more we learn about you. You know how to find us, and we know how to find you. I suggest you reach out first while the choice is still yours.

This is actually the most interesting part. Whatever Shinyhunters stole, it’s important enough the FBI is willing to negotiate with them over it. Past administrations would just dismantle the whole operation and put them and anyone involved in a hole for twenty plus.

But this administration takes bribes in the form of aeroplanes and is pardoning the worst cyber and other criminals to then use them as assets.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the president said if they can bend over the FBI and make them look like absolute amateurs, why can’t they work for us?

And with us, I don’t mean the American people. For ShinyHunters what they did was immature and strategically wrong.

Their egos didn’t allow them to just ignore the FBI and what they consider is an affront of what the group does and why.

But now they dabble in terrorism and that gets people involved you really don’t want breathing down your neck. This arrest is the beginning of the group’s end and they really don’t have any better option than making a deal with the FBI.

I doubt they have a military and/ or intelligence background, otherwise, they would know that even if they gave all the data to a foreign adversary like China or Russia, the kind of protection you get offered is always a lie.

You will end up like Snowden. They suck all the intel right out of you and then they take care of your "safety”, which means you’ll be stuck for the rest of your life in a small flat with all of your activities being surveilled by the local government, and some day you might get extradited for favours anyway, it’s like jail for life with a different-sized cell.

If they are clever they will cut a deal, sit five for show in minimum security, then get hired into the private sector.

No matter how good you think your opsec is, you can’t disappear anywhere on this beautiful planet if the US Government wants you dead or alive. And you all know countless examples that this is true.

There will also be no help coming if you’re not in that bunker, so what do you need doomsday preparations for if the people who will be rebuilding consider your life worthless and kill you on sight if you tried wasting some of their resources even if your Temu bunker survived anyway.

Jamesbeam··on Congressman Cohen Introduces Articles of Impeachment Against President Trump
I am sorry, but that’s just a cheap publicity stunt from Congressman Cohen before the midterms.

Congressman Green from Texas tried as well, and that got iced by both parties on the 15th even by Jeffries, Clark, and Aguilar.

He knows that this won’t pass. He knows Trump doesn’t give a shit because he knows as well this won’t pass.

So don’t tell the people you did it out of duty for your country.

Jamesbeam··on AI Passport Photo
I am not the passport photo police. You do you.

If you trust your government to be competent enough to treat you fairly if your face ends up on the news because someone left a copy of a passport with your face on it at a terror scene, then save the money, if you are happy with the service.

Who am I to tell you what you can and can not do.

Jamesbeam··on AI Passport Photo
I agree, but it won’t happen. There is a whole industry behind that. After the government took their cut, there isn’t much left of your $25.

Hell freezes over before the government lets go of those taxes and puts the guy out of business who is collecting your tithe for them.

Jamesbeam··on AI Passport Photo
This is a super fishy site. No point of contact other than a form. Site looks AI generated by itself.

Technically, the site can add hidden biometric data to the photo that allows multiple people to travel on the same passport.

They also give you incentive to choose the passport you’re going to use it for, pretending the picker is about the specific regulations of your country’s passport. So they even know what passport to fake that most likely belongs to the person uploading their picture.

You will then likely use the photos you downloaded from their website to get official papers and that’s the jackpot for them.

That’s the main reason you should not use a service like this to save 25 bucks. You might be aiding organised crime and/or foreign governments in obtaining travel documents which allow them to hide their true identity.

In Mali, for example, many people want to flee to Europe. They buy a passport with a morphed photo that belongs to someone around the same age, having the same skin colour and citizenship in a European country.

They also know you must be close to obtaining new documents for whatever reasons, as you specifically are looking for their service, and they can retain a copy of the morphed image to sell a passport with your photo to someone around the same age and skin color in a third-world country for a few thousand dollars, or to hide a Mossad hit team from entering the country to murder one of your fellow citizens.

Jamesbeam··on 'We hacked the FBI:' Hackers say they have data on all FBI employees
I will tell you where this gets really embarrassing for the FBI.

Oracle enterprise applications are a gold mine for attackers precisely because nobody treats them as security-critical systems.

In 2025 the Clop ransomware gang discovered that Oracle E-Business Suite has a critical vulnerability (CVE-2025-61882) that allows unauthenticated remote code execution.

Graceful Spider (tracked as Clop affiliates) started exploiting this in early August, well before Oracle issued a patch in October. That’s a two-month window where attackers had free rein.

All you need to know about Clop is that they got fucked by SH as well just a few days ago.

ShinyHunters defaced Clop's Tor leak site and added its own branding and messages. SH claims it stole source code, system logs, plugins, and Tor onion service keys. SH says it plans to give Clop 72 hours to respond to an extortion message.

Say what you want but these kids got balls. Won’t help them once SOCOM starts dealing with them, but they had a good run so far. I think hacking the FBI is as close as you can fly to the sun before the hammer drops.

In February this year they breached Wynn Resorts and lifted data on 800,000-plus employees. Can you guess the entry point?

If you guessed Oracle PeopleSoft, you were right.

Now you’d think the FBI IT people would have noticed that oracle software is a potential national security risk, if multiple ransomware groups keep focusing specifically on the shit Larry Elison personally have to seem vibe coded, over and over.

But Ka$h replaced most of the competent people at the FBI with Ka$h people and by pure luck Oracle won a $396m HR government contract this summer. Who wouldn’t want to supply the most secure software product to manage some of the most sensitive data within the agency, if not the Oracle Moscow branch.

https://mesoclever.com/2026/06/11/oracle-wins-396m-hr-contra...

They even mentioned in the above June article:

> Separately, the cybercrime group ShinyHunters claimed to have exfiltrated student, financial-aid, immigration, health, and administrative records from PeopleSoft instances at more than 100 organizations, predominantly universities. The group stated it had previously targeted an *FBI PeopleSoft server* before pivoting to educational institutions already compromised in earlier campaigns. Oracle has not publicly confirmed the scope or remediation status of these incidents.

So the FBI knew, and had it coming, and if stuff like this happens, THE HEAD needs to roll. And all of his buddies in IT should permanently get to spend their time outside the government at the seafood buffet at Ka$hs favorite gentleman’s club as well.

Fookin Big Idiots.

Jamesbeam··on OpenAI's Sam Altman to Brief UN Security Council Next Week
Without reform, the Security Council is an absolute joke.

They exclude the global south from having a permanent seat at the table, and they need a veto reform.

No resolution when they captured Maduro. Russia has launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine since 2022 and vetoed any Security Council action.

171 days into the Gaza conflict, they passed Resolution 2728, by that time, over 10,000 people had already been killed, and Israel’s immediate response was to announce it would ignore the resolution entirely.

There were a lot of smaller-scale conflicts in the meantime, where the Security Council had a lot of meetings, but nothing ever happened.

Altman could tell them to go fuck themselves and that he is specifically developing tools to kill any person in that room, and the US would just veto the Council from taking any action that could save their own life.

That’s the kind of joke they have become.

Jamesbeam··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
Happened before with a guy having a meat processing empire in Germany.

The guy is notoriously known for paying below minimum wage and setting the worst working conditions possible to maximize profits.

They made a law that forced companies in the meat processing industry to have certain standards if they reach a certain number of employees.

So he opened 250 companies on a weekend and split up the workforce to stay below the limits.

Then they just changed the law to declare multiple entities with below the limit they set under same ownership to become a "super entity" with even stricter regulations.

The government has the monopoly on violence of any form. That does not just include that they can send the police after you to hit you with batons, they can also make sure you’re drowning in administrative work and taxing the shit out of you, and the guy threatened to leave the country and just open meat processing in Poland and Bulgaria as well.

In the end, all his threats to leave the country and just do the whole processing in Poland and Bulgaria were empty. They simply told him someone else will just take over, because the profit was still great after the new regulations, and they were going to ban him from doing business on the German market by simply banning his product for food safety reasons.

This is the same thing with a different product. Investors threaten to no longer invest and build housing, but they will just fall in line and shut up in the end, because capitalism dictates that if you no longer want to make good profits because they took away your ability to make ridiculous profits, someone else will just do your business under the new conditions and gladly take the good money over no money at all.

Jamesbeam··on More U.S. troops have died amid Iran war than Pentagon has disclosed publicly
This war will kill far more US soldiers, and it angers me that I still don’t understand what for exactly?

The majority of the reported injuries are TBIs (Traumatic Brain Injury).

Veterans with TBIs are also nearly twice as likely to die by suicide compared to veterans without a diagnosed brain injury, according to data from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

So this will be another generation of soldiers with lifelong impairments.

More than 460,000 service members were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries between 2001 and 2023, according to VA data.

They are often forgotten when people speak about the toll service members and their families pay when the commander in chief makes bad decisions.

I think we should stop attributing criminal AIctivities to some act of bad luck, like spilling a water bowl after we accidentally tripped over the cat in the kitchen.

It’s neither intelligent nor making decisions on its own free will.

Just like APT Botnets don’t go "rogue", someone gave it the instruction to hack your computer system and they are expecting financial benefits from it.

AI labs are basically criminal enterprises by design.

We used to call this cybercrime back in the day and it used to carry heavy prison sentences as a federal offence.

But as you can see, cybercrime as a service has basically become a pissing contest by the super wealthy.

They stole all the world’s intellectual property to build the world’s most sophisticated cybercrime machine and federal law or any law no longer applies to them. Also because the mightiest man on the planet and his clan of extraordinary white collar criminals are cashing in big on this.

It will be interesting to see what happens next.

All this capability signalling happened also when the first nuclear bombs were developed. Then the US army started killing nuclear scientists around the globe in order to prevent others from having the bomb first.

The signal to other nations here is we are developing a weapon capable of breaking into any of your secured information systems and we pretend we put in guardrails but we really don’t.

That is an essential threat to the existence of any other nation on the planet.

When this race starts to go hot, I don’t want to be in the shoes of the people being the frontier thinkers in the field.

It’s one thing developing the tools for autonomous weapon systems in your AI labs. It’s a completely different thing to be on the receiving end.

Jamesbeam··on The American Age Is Over
Global dominance is an unreachable goal in the first place. Even with AI.

All the article does is recognise the shift in Grand Strategy, but comes to all the wrong conclusions, because they completely miss what the current US Grand Strategy is.

There is a consensus across all factions in the US Government to secure the US “backyard” in the Western Hemisphere as an exclusive zone of interest where the US can regenerate its strength.

That’s the primary goal for this current US administration and they are making pretty good progress. Basically everyone is afraid they are going to be the next Venezuela, including Canada.

Hegseth’s recent revival of the century-old “Greater North America” security perimeter underlines where the US locates its vital security interests. You just need to listen.

From Greenland in the North through the Panama Canal all the way to the littoral states of the “Gulf of America” north of the equator.

The Iran war is a setback, and I doubt Trump and Bibi will be friends any longer after this because the Israelis dragged him into that mess and now Bibi is literally fighting for his life in an election and so is Trump. But it’s just a blip in the grand scheme of things.

How the US should secure its interests in its traditional spheres of influence in Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East is important, but not essential to the US Grand Strategy.

If the US Army wanted to end the Iran war, it could do it within an hour. Iran cannot compete with the level of Escalation the US is capable of.

Using a tactical nuclear weapon to atomise their government in session and asking for an unconditional surrender or they are going to continue, nuking desalination for example to make Iran permanently uninhabitable and therefore inoperable for the IRCG, is an option that is always on the table for the president.

It would come with serious repercussions though, but can he do it? Any time of the day.

So the question is not if they can win the war and project power across the region with an iron fist, but if they should. And the answer to that is no. Especially now that their Middle East logistics have been shredded by the Iranians.

You cannot rule the Middle East with an iron fist, only by soft power.

All the conflicts in the zone over the past century of modern warfare have shown violence leads to a direct loss of power and influence over time. You can either win them over or kill ‘em all.

You cannot stay in these countries. The natives will grind you down, and then you have to evac with your tail between your legs.

The president maneuvered the country into a problem that is really hard to solve, and the only people I am aware of who would have been capable of solving this from inside the army have either been replaced by loyalist baboons with stars, or simply are not available for this administration because solving problems for Trump means, you make millions of Americans life’s worse and not better.

And if you serve, you serve the people, not a single man who holds office for anywhere between four and eight years.

Jamesbeam··on Former CIA official found with $40M in gold bars reaches tentative plea deal
Oh no, a CIA operative being a dishonest man? I am shocked, I say, shocked.

They do all the dirty work and get paid in pennies. What do you guys expect?

Personally, I am ok if they steal 40 mil from the government on their way out, instead of brokering a nuclear arms deal or letting themselves get paid to train a private militia in some shithole for a local warlord.

The commander in chief just gave 14 million to his golf club buddy renovating the reflecting pool without even giving other companies the chance to get that contract.

He siphons hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money into companies where he or his family is personally invested, but this guy gets all the outrage, even though it’s clear that trusting someone with a few hundred kilos of more or less anonymous currency means he must have done a pretty good job warranting that kind of trust.

DON'T LOOK UP!!

Unfortunately, the character traits that make you an excellent CIA operative are the same you need to be an excellent criminal, it’s expected that you need to pull on their leash from time to time so they remember who is in charge. And that they will try out how far they can go before you choke ‘em out.

This is really a lot of peoples fault. How can you be a CIA operative without them having checked your background extensively? Why did he become one in the first place, after inflating his resume and showing that he is willing to lie the CIA in the face.

And the same guys being responsible for these kind of security clearance checks are probably still with the CIA and have recruited dozens of other potential problems out of negligence. If you do this on purpose, it’s kinda treasony.

Weaponized incompetence should carry a lengthy prison sentence for government employees.

Also, there are more than a dozen people with exorbitant salaries that are tasked to keep them in check, unfortunately, they also know how to manipulate those people, so once in a while someone slips through the cracks.

This is a story that should not exist in the first place because everyone involved did their job properly.

Jamesbeam··on Ask HN: Are we losing our engineering literacy?
Fun part of being an Engineer is actually inventing stuff.

But we understand the world better than anyone before us, most big breakthroughs have been made, and in a lot of engineering fields we reach the limits of what is possible with the resources we have at our disposal.

So our lifetime is an age of refinement, and a lot of the engineers understand this, and how the world works, and are fine with getting large amounts of money for being more or less ok with being lazy and just solving problems to refine already available tech.

For a long time, engineers had the carrot.

Now the computer has the carrot, and it dangles the tasty promise of being able to invent new things out of thin air again in front of the engineers eyes. No more refinement, it’s eureka time, baby. AGI, the holy grail of engineering is upon us or so they say.

And engineers are now willing to pay handsomely from all the years of getting money thrown at you for doing boring refinement, for the illusion of being inventors again.

I think it’s kinda beautiful. Engineers refine the machine by sharing the only thing the machine can’t replicate by itself to teach it to solve problems better than them, so they become obsolete.

This is like watching the dinosaurs talking about the water temperature while the giant extinction-level tsunami wave is slowly crawling to landfall.

Everyone has a different way to deal with reality. I think all the events of the past few years just let more people realize how the world really is, they use the way of expression available to them to make sense of it, and society definitely had a vibe shift.

We are fighting for resources again, when did that ever go well in the last 2000 years for everyone? It is what it is.

Jamesbeam··on Iran says it captured US submarine drone in Strait of Hormuz

Jamesbeam··on Do people prefer stories written by AI?
I wouldn’t put too much weight into this.

Some pattern with Cambridge researchers I noticed, they deliberately pick study populations that will give them a more likely preferable outcome to their research and think nobody notices.

Look at the study population.

> mean age = 45.9 years; age range = 18–81 years). This sample was recruited to be representative of the population of the United States on the characteristics of gender, age, and race. Participants were paid $3 for a 15-minute study.

See how they picked gender, race, and age, instead of also diversifying by level of education.

That’s not an oversight,it’s part of the study design to create preferable outcomes to then generate more funds for their research with the attention they get from publishing.

Most people 45 and above will not have any education at all about AI. So a large part of the study population has no reference or internal tooling in their brains that allows them to recognise patterns used in LLMs in the first place.

On top of that, they only had 15 minutes of time and got 3$ for it.

What kind of study population do you think a 3$ reward attracts?

And I am not saying these people are stupid, but I say if you sell 15 minutes of your lifetime for 3$ , I highly doubt you have the funds and time to meaningfully educate yourself about AI and gather references about how AI uses language differently, because of how the technology is designed. But there are also a lot of people who do that will simply never join the study, because they have zero incentive to do so.

So, good for them they are able to trick the average HN Billionaire, but the study design is somehow flawed by not taking education into account.

May their funding never dry up from your taxes.

Jamesbeam··on Iran says it captured US submarine drone in Strait of Hormuz
We don’t seem to live in the same universe.

The Iranian people will never come out to protest again in masses after how the US betrayed them.

The president said "help is on its way", live on TV, they hijacked radio and tv signals in Iran to broadcast it to as many people as possible.

The people of Iran went out and got slaughtered like cattle.

You think the mothers who lost their sons and daughters, be it us soldiers or Iranians, will just forget that their children died because of an illegal, unnecessary war that was planned by political idiots in a signal group?

Thousands of innocent souls died in this war because the US President is an idiot and a liar. The US citizens are held hostage just as much as the Iranian citizens. It’s not the people’s fault. It’s horrible leadership.

No help was sent, instead, the inability of the US army to end this war put the US into a position where the regime in Teheran will come out infinitely stronger than before the war. They indeed have "all the cards".

Khamenei is not threatening to end the Iranian civilisation and bombing drinking water facilities. It’s the aggressor, the United States of America. They are just missing the R before the US.

The best outcome for the rest of the world is not regime change in Iran. It’s regime change in Washington. Preferably non-violent.
