Absent things that are pure math isn't everything Humanity "knows" basically a series of, while highly supported by evidence in a lot of cases, just assumptions about the way things really work?
JaimeThompson··on Starlink direct-to-cell enabled for hurricane helene emergency messaging
Some are bothered by his positions that explicitly want to roll back rights for people while others are bothered by his current "government aid is bad" position given how much such aid he has received.

I'm guessing if he actually lived the beliefs he said he used to have more people with support him.

JaimeThompson··on John Deere Dismissing 15% of Workforce
Leadership should resign or take drastic pay cuts if they are unable to execute the jobs they are paid so much to do.

Holding them accountable for their failures isn't too much of an ask.

JaimeThompson··on John Deere Dismissing 15% of Workforce
I'm guessing that few, if any, of the leadership will lose their jobs in this event. It's also very likely the current leadership will receive additional compensation to keep themselves in their current position since they are so knowledgeable and skilled.

>just says that you want people to carry on doing that work

Or that we don't want them to starve. We are talking about the US where their isn't really an effective solution to help people without jobs.

JaimeThompson··on Many FBI agents are struggling to make ends meet. Housing costs are to blame
I would expect that someone discussing this topic would be familiar with the various things Adam Smith and others have said about collusion to increase prices and related topics.
JaimeThompson··on Many FBI agents are struggling to make ends meet. Housing costs are to blame
Adam Smith would disagree.

JaimeThompson··on Research into why some people have a better sense of direction
Some inexpensive phones don't include it due to cost reasons, it could also be bad software or a defective magnetometer in the unit.
JaimeThompson··on Research into why some people have a better sense of direction
The phone may be using GPS for headings instead of an actual compass causing it to act that way.

>This is the basis for almost all that is good in our society.

You have a rather interesting definition of good that doesn't include helping others for reasons other than profit and a great many other things that keeps society a society.

JaimeThompson··on Faster filesystem access with Directfs
I found this [1]

"We recently landed support for directfs feature in runsc. This is a filesystem optimization feature. It enables the sandbox to access the container filesystem directly (without having to go through the gofer). This should improve performance for filesystem heavy workloads.

You can enable this feature by adding `--directfs` flag to the runtime configuration. The runtime configuration is in `/etc/docker/daemon.json` if you are using Docker. This feature is also supported properly on k8s.

We are looking for early adopters of this feature. You can file bugs or send feedback using this link. We look forward to hearing from you!

NOTE: This is completely orthogonal to the "Root Filesystem Overlay Feature" introduced earlier. You can stack these optimizations together for max performance."

That assumes that the gains in productivity are passed unto the parents in the form of increased income, do you have any data that shows this to be the case?
