JLaramie··on Jason Calacanis's Open Angel Forum is accepting applications.
very exciting news; and definitely a great list of angels involved in the event. In light of all the market pressure and negative effects on the VC industry, an opportunity like this for startups is priceless, literally. Great stuff. We will definitely be applying.
JLaramie··on Steve Jobs Will Save Print Media
Sounds like an opportunity for an outsider to step in and craft a more efficient model. Is it just that the industry is stuck in its own trap?
JLaramie··on Everyday creativity
creativity is in the eye of the beholder. But when creativity is applied to an actual physical being, something that people can hold, use, and abuse, then the understanding or appreciation of creativity can spread from the inventor to the user.
JLaramie··on Steve Jobs Will Save Print Media
I'm not willing to bet the house against Steve Jobs but unfortunately, just like this article and just like today's world, no one has announced a plan or much less hinted at an idea of how to save the print media world. However, I think there is an important distinction here - one between the actual art of print dying (the physical paper) and the other of monetizing the digital aspect of it. The latter is so challenging because the online distribution model is so vastly inexpensive to produce that charging for it goes against everything free out there - which is the majority of the market.

Now, if a tool such as the tablet is such a cool way to read the paper in the morning - then maybe, just maybe, apple can work with publishers on some fee based solution. I think that this article leads us back to the underlying point that technology can and has saved some industries from dying and now, how can tech save print media from running out of ink.

JLaramie··on The “Interview” with Y Combinator That’s Not
This is a great breakdown of your journey. Thanks for giving us the info.
JLaramie··on Announcement: YC alumni will help us read applications
Hey Bastian - I'd love to talk. My email is john@adstruc.com
JLaramie··on Announcement: YC alumni will help us read applications
We've spent our time focusing on the back end which is building our platform and obviously less on the website. Regardless, the website will be a wash once the product goes beta.
JLaramie··on Announcement: YC alumni will help us read applications
We are friends with the Pete and Tapinko and are in talks about both of our businesses - they are focused on newspaper advertising, not outdoor yet.
JLaramie··on Integration of Twitter
Yes, there are several hundred crashes nationwide. Largely, people cannot see or hear the flashing lights/sirens...

It would definitely be something worth investigating...I'd be happy to talk more if you are interested!

JLaramie··on Students Help Ford Bring [Web 2.0] to Cars
I think this totally makes sense - we are talking about a younger generation that is driving the need for web 2.0/social marketing integration with automobiles however, I find it strange that Microsoft would need outside assistance with growing Sync...
JLaramie··on New Samsung E-Paper
That's a great point, Stuart.
JLaramie··on Two brothers, no fears and $1 billion empire
I can see this being successful but essentially see it as a mashup of a webex type of service and instant messenger...
JLaramie··on Announcement: YC alumni will help us read applications
Great post, Bastian.
JLaramie··on How decent bike parking could revolutionize cities
It is miserable parking my bike in NYC and the threat of it getting bent and hit on the sidewalk is terrifying.
JLaramie··on Announcement: YC alumni will help us read applications
Thanks for the disclosure, Paul. We look forward to you guys checking out our application for ADstruc!
JLaramie··on The genius brothers behind Google Wave
This was a great article - what a deadly combination. The thinker and do-er.
JLaramie··on Facebook becoming big friend of small businesses
I get it, but I think there needs to be a more clearly defined portal in Facebook that is specifically for business and commerce. While its current state is great for connecting with the public (consumers), I think as more businesses continue to sign up for facebook, they need a portal to talk directly to one another.
JLaramie··on [dead]
A mash-up of Jay Z and Black Keys - do you like it?
JLaramie··on What Startups Are Really Like
Such a great presentation from Paul. I particularly like the piece on competitors, not worrying about them, and believing in your approach to the market and product. Go get em!

JLaramie··on Everything You Wanted To Know About Startup Building But Were Afraid To Ask
I really enjoyed this video...and it was so great to see the alpha product. It reminded me of seeing the initial drawings of Twitter. Those times in the startup are what it's all about!
