Involute··on Facebook Employees Are Reportedly Deleting Controversial Internal Messages
Given the general attitude toward Edward Snowden in the Valley, I can’t help thinking that a lot of these FBers who are so upset that their dirty laundry is being publicly aired were perfectly fine with Snowden doing the same with state secrets.
Involute··on Is the new Zuckerberg fake charity an estate tax avoidance scheme?
If HE hadn't already been so cynical with his charitable donations, maybe I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, as you suggest. Donating $100 million to the Newark public school system the same week "The Social Network" was released, with nothing to show for it educationally, compels me to suspect this LLC is more about Zuck and his family than the downtrodden or whatever.
Involute··on With Subscription Snacks, Entrepreneurs Think Inside the Box
No.

Involute··on $4M and counting for XTI's Aircraft that doesn't exist
As if you could even get the proof-of-concept for something like this for $4 million. It cost Eclipse $1 BILLION to ship their first jet, which, for all its innovation, was a lot more conventional than this thing.
Involute··on Laffer curve
Funny, it's not even controversial among professional economists.
Involute··on An explosion in Tianjin, China [video]
That's some Michael Bay shit right there. Transformers 8 shooting nearby?
Involute··on Problems with Computer Science Education
This issue's been around for awhile. See this post (http://blog.codinghorror.com/why-cant-programmers-program/) from 2007. The problem actually inspired me to create a piece of kinetic sculpture I'll be offering as a series later this month on Kickstarter.
Involute··on A Manhattan Project Veteran Reflects on His Atomic Bomb Work
His commanding officer had heard that something called the Manhattan Project was looking for soldiers, and told him to apply.

“He knew I was a loudmouthed New Yorker,” said Dr. Bederson, who grew up in the Bronx. “He said, ‘Here’s your chance to get back to New York.’”

LMAO.

Or, much cheaper and a 4-hour turnaround: https://youtu.be/MMF9I_9DAcs.
Involute··on Show HN: Feedbunch, a simple and elegant feed reader
I only just logged out to look for those links (and found them). If I'm logged in, I can't find them anywhere.

Regarding HN's feed, all I know is, if I reset Feedly and Feedbunch (i.e., mark everything as read), after x minutes Feedly will show more unread articles than Feedbunch. Over the course of eight hours (when I'm asleep, e.g.), Feedbunch will show maybe a dozen new articles and Feedly will show, like, 40. I don't see this issue with my other feeds.

Involute··on Show HN: Feedbunch, a simple and elegant feed reader
So long, Feedly, you sucking douchenozzle, and hello, Feedbunch. Add a donate button somewhere, amatriain, so I can give you some dough.
Involute··on Starbucks to encourage baristas to discuss race relations with customers
Winston Churchill once said, "If a man isn't a liberal in his twenties, has has no heart. And, if he isn't a conservative in his forties, he has no brain."

Involute··on What was wrong with V-tail Bonanza pilots? (2012)
There is also a common opinion among Cirrus owners that a number of fatal Cirrus accidents could have been avoided had the pilot deployed the chute, i.e. people don't pull the handle early enough.
Involute··on Two Airplanes Successfully Ditch in Pacific
Yes.
Involute··on Two Airplanes Successfully Ditch in Pacific
You really don't know what you're talking about. There is no evidence that the parachute entices pilots to take greater risks (if I'm wrong, by all means cite some), any more than car seat belts entice drivers to take more risks. Furthermore, "As of 25 January 2015 there have been 51 saves with 104 survivors in aircraft equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS)." When did "start up" become a verb?
Involute··on A plane that will be able to fly anywhere in the world within 4 hours
Odd that a picture of dead people (Palermo catacombs, I'm guessing) shows up beside this headline in my RSS reader (Feedly).
Involute··on Carly Fiorina exploring 2016 presidential run
I'm always surprised by people who view the most powerful job on earth as an entry-level political position. The hubris and/or naivete indicated by their belief in their qualifications is enough to disqualify them from earning my vote, however much I otherwise agree with their opinions.
Involute··on Soda May Age You as Much as Smoking
Are there any studies that associate telomere length with actual organism longevity in primates?
Involute··on Declassified photos from Tinian Island as the B-29 “Enola Gay” was being loaded
The bomb that was tested during Trinity was a plutonium, implosion device, completely different from the uranium, gun-type device dropped on Hiroshima. The designers were so confident of the latter that it was never tested before being deployed.
Involute··on Ask HN: Do you still use an RSS reader?

Involute··on Glowscreen: LCD monitors hacked to use incandescent lamps
Seems like something from "Brazil" (the movie, not the country).

Involute··on Is it right for this company to only pay $12/hour?
In the absence of fraud, voluntary exchanges are mutually beneficial.
Involute··on Scientists find traces of sea plankton on ISS surface
Apollo 12 retrieved a Surveyor 3 camera that had been on the Moon for over two years and contained Streptococcus mitis bacteria that survived in a dormant state and were recultured back on Earth. Pete Conrad, Apollo 12 commander, said, "I always thought the most significant thing that we ever found on the whole...Moon was that little bacteria who came back and lived and nobody ever said [anything] about it."
Involute··on Show HN: Dump receipts as you get them through the year, recall them at tax time
First alternative: take photo of receipt using phone's default camera app, e-mail photo to yourself putting tags in subject line, file in "Receipts" folder of your e-mail app on PC. No need for this or any other app you don't already have, and no risk of exposing your info to third party (any more than you already do with e-mail).

Second alternative: throw receipt away and record info in Quicken/Quickbooks/etc. when you get your monthly statement. Assumes you can remember details at that time and that you use credit card for all but insignificant expenses. You could also save receipt just long enough to enter details as above ahead of your statement.
