Inufu··on I’m Single, Therefore I Tinder
Tinder is good for random hookups, but if you are in any way selective based on something else than appearance then it's a waste of time.

I've used it quite successfully for the former in the past weeks, but since I'm looking for the latter I've mostly stopped. (There's really no need for elaborate messages. A few witty and original messages, followed by "Do you want to get drinks?" has so far always worked.)

Inufu··on Valve demonstrates Steam Controller [video]
Probably because this controller is meant to allow you to play games with a controller that you traditionally couldn't.
Inufu··on Google Trends - Hot Searches
If this is the same thing I remember, then yes, it's just cycling through the colors.
Inufu··on How to Charge $546 for Six Liters of Saltwater
$30/mo is nowhere near cheap - go check plans eg over here in Europe, where you can easily pay €7.50/mo or less, data plan included.

Inufu··on New Google Play Music All Access subscription service
7.99 if you start the trial before June 20th or so.
Inufu··on scala-zeromq - thread-safe ZeroMQ sockets for Scala
This is awesome, wish it'd been there a week earlier!

You should try to get it included on the official zeromq site: http://www.zeromq.org/bindings:scala-binding

Inufu··on Dear Apple, let's talk about photos
This is where Google's Play Music works much better - your music is in the cloud by default, but you can "pin" specific albums to have them stored on the device.

If you play some song that's not on the device, it will be streamed and then cached for some time till space runs out.

Inufu··on Sleep: Everything You Need to Know
If f.lux doesn't work properly, give redshift a try. Does the exact same thing and works perfectly for me.
Inufu··on Connecting an iPad retina LCD to a PC
I had horrible experiences with Mimos, touchscreens randomly failing, screen freezing.. Can't recommend them. Also, they are completely overpriced.
Inufu··on Webcam Pulse Detector
I have the same problem and have opened an issue: https://github.com/thearn/webcam-pulse-detector/issues/1

Maybe somebody that knows more about OpenCV than I do can figure out what's wrong.

Inufu··on Status Board
A real-word example from a project of mine: http://dash.furidamu.org:3030/dash (which hasn't really started yet, but the dash is up)
Inufu··on Three.js editor
At least Chrome Beta does, but iirc you need to enable it in about:flags.
Inufu··on Start — Dart web framework inspired by Sinatra
Not really. Dart and Javascript are both languages, while Reader is an application that uses RSS.

Having spoken with one of the people who works on Dart, the idea is not to kill an open standard (why would Google do that?), but rather to fix the horrible mess that is Javascript.

Same thing for the shutdown of Reader - how does that prevent you from using any other RSS reader?

Inufu··on Sublime Text 2 Web Inspector
I actually like the typing - I can watch the video without having to turn sound on. (the reason why I hate screencasts normally). Makes it much easier to watch on the train or during a lecture.

If only the typing was a bit faster, it would be perfect.

Inufu··on Show HN: Save Memory in Google Chrome
I have 16 GB in my ThinkPad (x230) and it still lasts 10 hours, so that's really negligible.
Inufu··on EA refuses to refund user for SimCity, threatens account ban
Usually, one account has more than one game bound to it, so banning the account would be the same as revoking the right to play all those games.

Additionally, that does not explain why EA doesn't offer a refund.

Inufu··on Show HN: Increase your productivity with ambient noise
For arbitrary ambient sounds, http://www.ambient-mixer.com/ is great. You can create your own mixes or just listen to premade ones. And you can individually adjust each 'effect' on mix board: http://weather.ambient-mixer.com/light-thunderstorm
Inufu··on How Search Works
>> If you read the right sources a majority of seo advice is correct.

That's a contradiction. If you have to read the right sources, then by definition the majority of advice is not correct.

Inufu··on Bypassing Google’s Two-Factor Authentication
If I want to hack your account, it's not enough to steal your password, I also need to steal your smartphone to generate the tokens.

edit: I was referring to the Google Authenticator App, not sending the codes over SMS. That's imho less secure.

Inufu··on Thalmic (YC W13) introduces gesture control without the cameras
> The first generation can recognise around 20 gestures, some as subtle as the tap of a finger

I wonder if it's able to distinguish between fingers. If so, it would be possible to create some sort of chorded keyboard, without the keyboard of course. Combine with Project Glass and you have awesome sauce.

Inufu··on Facebook Lost a Great Engineer
Here's a solution that merges in place without any sorting: https://gist.github.com/Mononofu/5029975

The basic idea is to use the (unused) beginning of array b as swap space for the beginning of array a. This swap space needs to be shifted around, so it's of course O(n^2). Still, it was fun to write.

If you have termcolor installed ('sudo easy_install termcolor' on ubuntu), you'll see the arrays a and b as well as the swap space highlighted in color for each step. Example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2135523/2013022517.png

Inufu··on Is speed reading really possible?
I think speed reading is most useful when you are reading some text where only parts are relevant or new to you. By quickly reading those, you can focus on the important pieces and spend more time to think about them.

Interestingly, the faster I read, the less I'm able to "filter" the information I read about, it seems almost as if my brain absorbs it directly. That means that I'd never speed read content that might contain bad memes or false information: political propaganda, religious texts, etc.

Does anyone know a good test for reading speed (including comprehension)?

Inufu··on Google reveals plans for 1.1M square foot, 4 floor ‘Bay View’ campus near SF Bay
You joke, but our office in Dublin actually has flood doors ^^
Inufu··on Why speaking English can make you poor when you retire
I thought so too at first, but:

> But he says his research has controlled for all these factors, by concentrating on nine multi-lingual countries: Belgium, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Estonia, DR Congo, Nigeria, Malaysia, Singapore, and Switzerland.

Inufu··on Google’s New Office In Dublin
The red 'e' is in the lobby, so that's more for visitors. As for the other pods - sure, it's refreshing to be able to move around.
Inufu··on Show HN: Subtome – Universal subscribe button
I don't really understand the purpose of this. How is it different from the subscribe bookmarklet provided by Google Reader?
Inufu··on Play framework 2.10 released
I have Play! running on my Raspberry Pi with a total of 232 MB RAM and it runs fine, although it's a bit slow. Play! itself uses about 55 MB, so it might get a bit tight if you plan to run some other software too.
Inufu··on 64 GB Surface Pro will only have 23 GB free
USB drives are 0.5€ per GB, if we are very generous and add a 16GB stick for recovery, that's still only 8€. Even less if you account for bulk discounts. That's hardly a big cost factor, compared to the total price of the tablet.
Inufu··on Ubuntu Phone will include a Terminal application
As an example, Yesod doesn't work on the raspberry pi, because GHCi is not in the debian ARM repositories. This is annoying, because compiling everything yourself takes forever on the raspberry.
