Intermediate··on Asteroid mining: Not as crazy as it sounds | ExtremeTech
What components you are talking about? They are going to mine asteroids, these asteroids are must be radioactive. So any resource taken from that asteroids must be radioactive too.
Intermediate··on Asteroid mining: Not as crazy as it sounds | ExtremeTech
I wonder how they going to deal with radiation in space? All these asteroids are not protected by magnetic field as Earth, so they must be radioactive.

Cpus comparison is completely wrong in this article. Cell Broadband Engine has 200+ GFlops throughput only in single precision, while Core 2 Duos has 24 Gflops in double precision

It doesnt support PSD neither other advanced image file formats, so it's more clone of MS Paint than Adobe Photoshop.

Yep, that's one of advantages living in China. However, The Great Firewall delivers so many problems to me so I'm even considering moving back to russia.
Intermediate··on What is happening to Linux?
Though DistroWatch is not a good indicator of this, unfortunately it still seems like Linux is loosing it's popularity. Check out google trends http://www.google.ca/trends/?q=linux&ctab=0&geo=all&...

Intermediate··on Ask HN: Anyone using Blekko instead of Google?
I tried to use blekko, but I found their search results not very relevant. However I using them from time to time just to show my support and to check if there is any improvement in search relevance.
Intermediate··on Justin.tv porting their site from Rails to Django?
Not sure if they will gain a lot of performance from this transition...according to shootout ( http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/u64q/which-programming-lan... ) python is only few % faster than ruby. Maybe they should consider porting their entire ecosystem to JVM as twitter did it.
Intermediate··on Dutch ISPs ordered to block access to The Pirate Bay
Maybe it's time to take I2P and TOR more seriously...
Intermediate··on Hackers said to be planning to Launch Satellites to Combat Censorship
Even if they will manage to launch these satellites into orbit I still don't get how they going to get satellites connected to the internet? In order to be connected to the internet you need an IP addresses, but ip space actually ruled by american IANA organization and by a couple of RIRs. So, what would stop IANA from shutting down satellites ip addresses? Sure, these guy can setup an internal network between satellites and ground stations, but every attempt to connect this network to the internet will result in gateway shutdown most likely. Sorry for my english :-)
Intermediate··on Some of the best Linux distributions of 2011
I think this is because installation and most of configuration steps of Arch Linux requires work in console which is considered unfriendly for an average user nowadays. Personally, I have nothing against console, but many newbies are scared of it.
Intermediate··on Seagate now offer only one year warranties on some HDD's
Nothing unpredictable here. There are less than three HDD manufacturers left (do you still count Toshiba as HDD vendor?), so what do you expect? No real competition == (no customer care && no discounts && poor quality of goods)
