IncreasePosts··on Anthropic boss Dario Amodei calls for AI development to slow down
If the leaders want to slow down, but the companies aren't, then it isn't those 50-100 people demonstrating no agency - it's just the opposite. Or, the leaders words are empty.

IncreasePosts··on Creatine improves muscle mass and cognitive function even without exercise
The question was asked whether creatine increases muscle nuclei or just water volume, and I provided a study (well, a meta-study which is referring to a specific study) which showed that creatine supplementation increased the muscle nuclei compared to no supplementation. The specific study referred to is titled "Creatine supplementation augments the increase in satellite cell and myonuclei number in human skeletal muscle induced by strength training"

(A meta analysis)

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5679696/?utm_source...

> For example, over 8 weeks of resistance training in young men, creatine supplementation resulted in a faster increase in satellite cell number, myonuclei per muscle fiber, and muscle fiber size.

You could just make a playlist of your intervals and use earbuds, or exercising in the town square under a large clock

I wonder about these sites that appear to be vibe coded from a simple prompt. Has the author even looked at the data or just did a little sample and figured that looks about right and hit publish

Ok, I have $5000 to invest. What amazing services will be available for that lady now?
IncreasePosts··on One resignation turned the embers of AI fear into a wildfire
How is AI going to destroy civilization?

If AI is going to do that, AI needs to at least get good enough to autonomously produce all the chips and energy it needs to execute. That seems like a pretty far way off, considering we don't even have robots that can fold laundry competently.

If AI exists but there are still humans producing chips for it, I don't think you would be able to say that civilization has been destroyed

What exactly would this performative shame entail? How would it change any outcome?

IncreasePosts··on Getting your hands dirty is good for you
If you live with someone, have them flip a coin every night to decide if your mat should be plugged in or not and log it in a private journal. Record your feelings in the morning. After a month, compare your reports to the state of the plug each night.

If you live alone, get 2 more identical cord. Have your mats cord and the unconnected ones going into a box. Blindly label the cords a b and c.

The unconnected ones end there, the real one continues to the mat. Cycle through your cords every evening. In the morning log your feelings and the cord used. After a month see which cord was the connected one and whether your feelings were correlated with that

This analysis implies the only benefit to resolve this problem is to win the prize. But the prize is only there to indicate that this is viewed as an important problem in mathematics.

Those people were walking barefoot near an unsanitary latrine. Is there a lot of human feces where you might walk barefoot? If not, you don't really have to worry about hook worm.

How did the southern US solve this issue? They just started building their latrines deeper.

IncreasePosts··on Why getting your hands dirty is good for you
It probably just comes from tweaking the routine. Maybe they started out at 15 minutes in the sauna and 5 minutes in the cold plunge, but found they were getting too hot in the sauna and too cold in the cold plunge.

IncreasePosts··on A Tesla ran a stop sign and killed a man, Full Self-Driving/Autopilot was on
Yes, that's what autopilot will do. Even though I knew that with my tesla, I thought it could be confusing because the visualization does show traffic lights and stop signs and other cars/pedestrians. So a driver might think that if the computer obviously knows about the stop sign, it would stop there.

I like to imagine futures where they judge us through their standards as harshly as we judge the past through our standards.

So, instead of some future people celebrating this project, they just think "Ew, what kind of monster would wish harm on a beautiful old tree?"

IncreasePosts··on I turned my security cameras into an automatic bird identification system
I just used AI(antigravity with gemini 3.6 flash, but i'm sure many others would work) to implement this and integrate it with my security cameras after reading the blog post 26 minutes ago. I suspect the author did the same thing. I also had it steal the idea from the AvianVisitors link in this thread and it displays a generated collage of the recently detected birds.

As long as you can easily slide it out of the way and it isn't fixed to the wall, it wouldn't be a problem for anyone who needs to service it. Therefore, it would not be against regulations, because all regulations in Germany are logical
