It's been 160 years since the publication of Das Kapital and people still don't understand the concept of stealing the surplus value.

That standard of living is more due to work-hours put in by people with a much lower standard of living. Often from what is sometimes condescendingly called "third world countries".
I-M-S··on You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner
This might explain the decline then, as with the price of housing going up less people can afford a place that has a backyard (let alone a pool!)
I-M-S··on Woman Arrested, Dragged Away After Speaking About Flock at City Council Meeting
You don't have remotely the same thing. You don't have high-speed trains, housing that populace who don't already own real estate can afford, a government that keeps the tech-oligarchs at a short leash and who mercilessly removes corrupt officials, functional public transit, functional anything public really.

I-M-S··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Food is much more important on Maslow's hierarchy than taxis.
I-M-S··on And then the men with guns tell you to do it anyway
Canada is a very visible counterexample to this glib statement.
I-M-S··on Amazonian civilization had estimated 3M people in 3% of forest area
I put much more credence into lived experiences than into academic journals. There's plethora of examples in which children/teens of the settlers taken by First Nations would refuse to go back (especially females, which had little rights in the American society back then). Conversely, First Nations children/teens that were taken by the settlers would almost without exception risk life and limb to escape their newfound circumstances.

The Iroquois did not have slaves. You might be thinking of individuals that were sometimes taken as compensation for people killed in battle. However, these people were then fully assimilated into the society with all the rights and obligations of anyone in the clan (in most cases, they would even take the name of the deceased). To call these people "slaves" is much more revealing of the Western civilization than that of First Nations.
I-M-S··on Gemini Robotics 2 brings whole body intelligence to robots
I would caution against enthusiasm. Anyone opposing those who end up controlling these robots won't be alive for long.
I-M-S··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
A handful of vocal voices can delay a project, raise its cost, and make it untenable.
I-M-S··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
All these things have been vehemently opposed by NIMBYs:

I-M-S··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
It could be argued that the article tendentiously paints this as a "not in my backyard" issue in order to normalize NIMBY outlook, conflating building AI data centres with building housing.
I-M-S··on Claude Fable produced a counterexample to the Jacobian Conjecture
So, basically human psychology?
I-M-S··on Quebec town recognizes trees as living beings with rights
This will be weaponized by NIMBYs to further limit construction of housing and infrastructure.
I-M-S··on Quebec town recognizes trees as living beings with rights
This will be weaponized by NIMBYs to further limit construction of housing and infrastructure, leading to a situation in which trees have more human rights than people.

Those rights were won at the time when stomachs were more often empty than full and before video games got really good.

I-M-S··on Canada's first sovereign wealth fund
Probably because of NIMBYs
I-M-S··on Canada's first sovereign wealth fund
> You aren't "rich" if you have $1M and you owe $4M. You're a con-man living a lie that will crush you eventually.

I'm not sure the simile lands. If that $1M is financing a lavish lifestyle, then you are for all intents and purposes rich. As for the crushing down part, the modern economy shows us one can stay solvent longer than the market is irrational (especially true the more zeros are added to the numbers above).

I-M-S··on The Pentagon Threatened Pope Leo XIV's Ambassador with the Avignon Papacy
Biden was Catholic, yet not even him sponsoring a genocide was enough to warrant an excommunication.
I-M-S··on We haven't seen the worst of what gambling and prediction markets will do
Not to mention the ante mechanic, abandoned in 1995.
I-M-S··on Have a fucking website
From my experience, you can't count on businesses to update their website to correctly reflect their working hours at all times either (especially if it's a one-off change, for example being closed for a day)
I-M-S··on Have a fucking website
IMO the four designs that I saw as examples are not attractive enough. Especially coming from the editor's builder, they should make a stronger showcase.
I-M-S··on Bill C-22, the Lawful Access Act: Dangerous backdoor surveillance risks remain
The government has demonstrated it is perfectly willing to forcibly remove non-violent protesters and unbank anyone protest-adjacent when they don't conveniently go away. Local councillors have orchestrated firing people for voicing their opposition towards the genocide in Gaza [1]. I for one don't understand the goodwill and benefit of doubt a lot of Canadians still seem to exhibit towards the government.

I-M-S··on Life as an OnlyFans 'chatter'
Murder and rape are actions imposed onto other people. As longer as it is voluntary, prostitution cannot be compared.
I-M-S··on What happens when US economic data becomes unreliable
I believe OP was referring to Baltics flipping from USSR to the West (the EU). Some US analogues might include Canada flipping (already happening), no more coups in South American countries that vote in a "wrong" government, or the Middle Eastern countries allying with China (no longer impossible).
I-M-S··on GPT-5.4
It's making sure AI condemns violence perpetuated by people without power and sanctifies violence of those who have it.
