Hroble··on Java 21: No more public static void main
That is the joke. Though probably Kotlin, not Dart, as the features described are exactly what Kotlin has.
Hroble··on Finland will seek NATO membership immediately
Look into the the other political parties in Russia and their views towards the west and you'll get your answer
Hroble··on Israel passes law denying naturalization to Palestinian spouses
Yea, the rest of the centuries in human history were much better weren't they.
Hroble··on Russia to legalize software piracy
Russia has a poor track record of working. Making bad copies of the software is a valid choice for them, the narrative is that the sanctions will not scare them because russia can make everything themselves, also better than the rotten west.
Hroble··on Cities with the Best Work-Life Balance 2021
It is though?
Hroble··on Ask HN: Favorite purchases of last two years?
There are much cheaper curved widescreen monitors as well, I bought a 100hz AOC monitor for 360 dollars or so. That was more than worth it.
Hroble··on Call centre staff to be monitored via webcam for home-working ‘infractions’
Unfortunately call center employees don't usually have a choice, no one works in a call center because they like the job.
Hroble··on Call centre staff to be monitored via webcam for home-working ‘infractions’
I worked in two different call centers in eu and it was the same. They can afford treating employees like that because there will always be another student with no money waiting to take the spot of anyone who inevitably quits in a year. Not sure how to solve this, but it definitely feels dehumanising working there.
Hroble··on Waymo gets green light in California to pick up passengers in self-driving cars
Does doing a job that could be done better by robots make you feel useful and contributing to society though?
Hroble··on Show HN: Mergify – An automation platform for GitHub pull requests
This looks super nice! Found a typo on the landing page btw: "pulls-request" instead of pull requests.
Hroble··on Making Music: When Simple Probabilities Outperform Deep Learning
20-30 years ago groups/artists like Autechre were already making generative music much more musical than this without sometimes even computers. The metrics in this article seem wrong, but even without any metrics the clips sounds like something a first-year student in Computer music could throw over the weekend in MAX/MSP. The result is bad from music perspective and the method is uninteresting from data-science/machine-learning perspective.
Hroble··on I don’t know how to create a website
I have a story about a team that did this. They built an app using "good old" stuff and spaghetti features into it until it's impossible to add anything more, then spent a year rewriting everything in angular just so they could continue working on the product. It was probably not only a problem of a tech stack, but if you know that you need an SPA that is going to need to scale and have more components, it's only a waste of time to try to do it with vanillajs/css/html imo.
Hroble··on Model predicts we're the only advanced civilization in the observable universe
Yes please
Hroble··on AI at Google: our principles
Yeah, I'm sure USA would go to war with Mexico, deny it and annex a part of it. Russia has military bases near NATO countries as well. I'm not rationalising USA army interventions but comparing it to Russia in this case is ridiculous.
Hroble··on OpenAI at the Dota 2 World Championships
If I remember correctly, Deep Mind recently releasead a kit to train bots to play Starcraft 2. Would anyone be able to compare the differences and difficulty of playing dota and starcraft for a bot?
