Shameless self mention: Chartbeat does not do this either.
Hmmm. In what way? We (Chartbeat) provide all of our data through our API, and all of our products are built using those very same APIs.
In this case, the person renting the car would be "interviewing" the car rental company to determine if their service is worth their money.
parseInt('12', 10); => 12
Number('12'); => 12
parseInt('12x', 10); => 12
Number('12x'); => NaNIf anyone has questions or anything, feel free to ask.
It only has code that knows how to load each script, which isn't that much. So for example if you don't tell it to load chartbeat.js, it will never load chartbeat.js.
Regarding load time of pages, it's one thing we (Chartbeat) take really seriously, e.g. our default implementation waits until after onload before downloading anything and we keep our JS as light as possible. This script does, unfortunately, throw some of that out the window with it's implementation though. I'm working on my pull request already. :)
I wrote a little blog post about it once, if anyone cares: http://blog.chartbeat.com/2012/03/16/hacking-chartbeat/
Chartbeat's JS is only 3k gzipped (http://static.chartbeat.com/js/chartbeat.js). We work very hard to keep it as small as possible while providing as much utility as we can.
