HeadsUpHigh··on Winning back the Internet by building our own
Copyright is theft of my natural ability to copy things. And now that I have a machine that can do it for me for almost zero marginal cost, I really don't want laws designed for a world of physical publishing to be applied on the digital world.

Most of these p2p systems need port forwarding. Which half the isps seem to block with botched cgnat deployments.

HeadsUpHigh··on The Erosion of Deep Literacy
>What we are seeing now is more people engaging in conversations and debates that were previously relegated to the elites—academics, politicians, aristocrats. Are their opinions impacted by their lack of deep literacy?

As if our politicians are some highly educated bunch anyway.

HeadsUpHigh··on Why did renewables become so cheap so fast?
SA has been dumping all their oil money on investments for a long time now. They know what's coming.
HeadsUpHigh··on The Race to Crack Lithium Ion Recycling
No one is putting cylindrical cells on phones. These go to stationary storage. Also some people test and save each cell separately and put them in new packs.
HeadsUpHigh··on Would you be willing to fund a Linux port to Apple Silicon?
Eventually they will come. And I think they will be linux laptops, not windows. The legacy support of closed source software windows has is working against them atm. Qualcomm for example already has hardware that is one or two iterations away from being competitive with the M1( with different strengths and weaknesses) and they can mainline their drivers if they want.
HeadsUpHigh··on Would you be willing to fund a Linux port to Apple Silicon?
Driver support will never arrive. The reverse engineering effort without specs from apple would be gigantic. And during that period the floss software would be running much worse than the benchmarks we see and want right now. All that for a moving target that Apple can also lock down with a random update at any time.

It's just not worth it.

Or this is just a container box that was dropped in Earth accidentally. So it's some sort of mass produced cost-cut product.

Personally I usr stock ublock origin and sponsorblock. Thesr 2 together work reasonably well.
HeadsUpHigh··on Roblox pays 26% of its revenue to Apple/Google for payment processing
The point here is that Apple being the arbiter of access to customer base is an unhealthy market dynamic.
HeadsUpHigh··on Bring back the ease of 80s and 90s personal computing
Ah the irony of considering linux more complicated than windows or mac because it doesn't hide the complexity... compared to adding an extra layer of complexity on top of the real complexity just to hid it.
HeadsUpHigh··on What would happen if computers never got any faster?
PC gaming is the spearhead of planned obsolescence. Everything else comes after the gaming market has paid the hefty markup.
HeadsUpHigh··on Comcast will start charging Xfinity customers fees for exceeding their usage cap
We have the same system but with electricity here( cheaper bills during night use).
HeadsUpHigh··on What is the benefit of having FIPS hardware-level encryption on a USB stick?
Yes the cheapest ssd is more expensive /tb than the optimal one( which is ~1tb atm).
HeadsUpHigh··on What is the benefit of having FIPS hardware-level encryption on a USB stick?
Cheapest ssd $/tb is x2-3 that of the cheapest hdd. That's still significant.
HeadsUpHigh··on What is the benefit of having FIPS hardware-level encryption on a USB stick?
Hard drives are being price gouged. The prices on the low-end have stayed the same since pre-flood and the $/tb hasn't improved in a long time. Also the fact that the almost identical( and sometimes exactly identical down to serial number) externals often cost half as much as the internals( with only some extra warranty to cover the difference). It's a broken market.

In the same way UI/UX can be used to get novice/ non-technical users into something it can also be used to filter them out.
HeadsUpHigh··on 16-inch MBP 2x slower than M1 MacBook Air in a real-world Rust compile
Windows arm is not real windows. It's not a substitute. Apple might command it's developers like a herd, moving them to whatever fancy new thing they make but windows is much more fragmented with 20+ years of backwards compatibility and tons of unmaintained software that won't be magically ported.
HeadsUpHigh··on Intel's disruption is now complete
Hopefully without windows. It would be nice if we could get our own little *nix corner.
HeadsUpHigh··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
My gpu works fine on newer kernels. It's not about blobs, debian is just slow.
HeadsUpHigh··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
It shouldn't be their business.
HeadsUpHigh··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
Debian has abysmal hardware support( well gpus mostly). They need to do something about their kernels, my RX5700XT is miles ahead with the current kernel compared to whatever debian 10 ships.
HeadsUpHigh··on macOS unable to open any non-Apple application
It happens with forced win10 updates.

Spotify has gotten worse. They don't want you to listen to too much music, they want just enough to keep you subbed.
