HappyJoy··on Why a Slide Rule Works
Maybe an E6B would be helpful.
HappyJoy··on SimpleDB: A Basic RDBMS Built from Scratch
Hey, this is really great. Fun fact - there is another SimpleDB also written in Java [1]. The book (out of print I think) is a good read.

HappyJoy··on Locked out of 'God Mode', runners are hacking their treadmills
For me, it was the deck on the Peloton. At the time of purchase, it was the cheapest slat deck treadmill I could find.
HappyJoy··on An 8-bit minicomputer with a fully custom architecture
I really enjoy when these hobby projects get posted. Tinkering for the sake of it is so much fun. Thanks for sharing
HappyJoy··on USPS Begins Postal Banking Pilot Program
Yes and no. I don't have to buy missiles from the DoD like I do stamps. It's a service but it's some weird quasi-governmental-business
HappyJoy··on The unofficial way to land a Gulfstream G280
No

HappyJoy··on An interview code submission that wasn’t even submitted changed our process
That's rediculous thinking. It's not a handout. The guy clearly worked for his ability.

I remember Hotmail
HappyJoy··on The Aloha point-of-sale system
My first restaurant job used Aloha. I loved Aloha. It did everything I needed it to do. I worked front of house on the floor and it was great. I worked back of house and it was great. I worked bar and it was great. THEN! We were bought by Darden and had to use their in-house system. It was hot garbage compared to Aloha.
HappyJoy··on Build an 8-bit computer from scratch
Take a deep breath and understand that nothing will ever be perfect. If you have that high a standard, download the source, examine it for security and privacy concerns, an proceed if satisfied.
HappyJoy··on Database Internals
Database Design and Implementation by Edward Sciore implements a fully working relational database from buffer manager up to parser and beyond. It's very much in the spirit of Tanenbaum's OS book.

Here's the landing page for the book's implementation: http://www.cs.bc.edu/~sciore/simpledb/intro.html

Unfortunately, I don't think the book is in print anymore.

HappyJoy··on Database Internals
You can try the homework assignments. They aren't trivial and you'll probably learn a bunch more by not being spoon fed the answers. Admittedly, the only bummer is not having someone review your work.
HappyJoy··on Intro to Database Systems (Fall 2019) [video]

Good question - give it a shot
HappyJoy··on MyCPU – Homebrew Computer from Discrete Logic Gates
Ben Eater has a most excellent Youtube series in the same vein.

https://eater.net/8bit

He even sells a kit with all parts and schematics included. It's easily one of my favorite projects of all time and has inspired me to continue learning more.

It's not close to MyCPU's level of complexity but is great to get you started.

HappyJoy··on A fork() in the road
The paper mentions posix_spawn... so I guess they are aware
HappyJoy··on Let’s Build a Simple Database (2017)
I've been looking for this type of book. Thanks!
