What do you expect them to do though? You have to be a reasonable person.
HDBaseT··on An update on Wayback Machine access
Who do you think the Internet Archive is? They are not Google, they have very low funding, very high expenses and are constantly under legal pressure.

The fact you can even access the Internet Archive for free is a result of tens thousands of human hours striving for one goal. Digital Preservation. If you rely so much on IA, you should consider donating.

HDBaseT··on An update on Wayback Machine access
How exactly does IPv6 "stop crawlers".

If anything, it will make it harder to block due to the vastness of the IPv6 address space.

HDBaseT··on An update on Wayback Machine access
I think you have the wrong impression of the Internet Archive.

The internet archive is not designed to circumvent anything. It is not designed to "grant access without having your own access".

Not really. A 50 year old is a collectable, in high demand.

What country?
HDBaseT··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
What hardware are people using to run modern VR?

1440p (2560x1440) is 3,686,400 pixels.

2160p (2160x2160) is 4,665,600 pixels, per eye, so 9,331,200 pixels.

This headset will require a million more pixels to be rendered than 4K. 9 Million pixels @ 144hz is no easy task.

My RTX 4080 (9800X3D) struggles with 4K gaming.

HDBaseT··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Even the Frame doesn't support Linux properly. You cannot do streaming from a Linux machine, it must be a Windows machine. (yet).

I'm sick of pretending Valve cares about Linux. Their own games have major issues with Linux.

Every CS2 update breaks something, last time it was the inventory screens which were completely broken for like 2 weeks.

Left 4 Dead 2 has major frame pacing and stutter issues on the Native Build & Proton doesn't let you play multiplayer.

Counter Strike Dev Tools only runs on Windows.

I've never understood the whole VR game ecosystem. There is a handful of titles (outside of Half Life Alyx, which even then looks pretty shit and clunky) that are worth playing on VR.

Most are short bursts of fun and don't really have any moat.

Yeah, like the parents who strangle their kids to death.

AV receiver maybe.
HDBaseT··on Show HN: What if the speed of light was 5 km/h?
The speed of light is unbelievably slow, not even as a cosmic scale, but on earth.

We cannot play competitive multiplayer games globally, without 300ms ping. I dream of a world playing Black Ops 2 on a original PS3 in 2026 getting into a lobby because latency is low.

HDBaseT··on Searching for the best silicone USB cable
LTT is Canadian though. It's simply the shipping costs globally are expensive.

Annyways; I like the LTT TrueSpec cables although I think the thickness of the connector is slightly too small.

It feels loose in multiple of my devices, e.g. S22 Ultra & S23 Ultra. No other connector feels this loose.

Why would you even have kids if you don't want to give them agency or respect?

What would it take for you to realize you are being abusive and invading their privacy? Don't complain when your son puts a gun to his mouth and blows his brains out in front of you.

In theory it sounds alright, although in reality, the heat and power consumption make this less than ideal.

I am not sure single digit tk/s on weak model like ChatGPT OSS 20b @ Q3_K_M is going to be worthwhile.

Not to mention this has to be <0.01% of users who "want" to do this. The iPhone tooling would make it hard to even configure and spin up a local LLM.

HDBaseT··on iPhone Duo
Your command is not engaging in good faith. You seem to believe somehow if Apple produced a higher end, smaller size phone it would magically outsell the higher end larger phone, with no evidence to suggest that.

The market, in both Android and iOS land has dictated larger phones are more favored. This is abundantly clear with the advent of "foldable" phone sector. On paper foldable phones make no sense, they are less resistant, more expensive and use a plastic screen, yet the market is growing year on year.

I totally respect someone's opinion on a small or large phone, but even the largest iPhone is fairly easy to hold and operate using one hand. I don't have big hands.

H.264 isn't efficient though. AV1 (and even H.265) are anywhere from 20-50% more space efficient for the same visual quality.

AAC vs Opus is a little bit more debated, but on average should outperform AAC.

HDBaseT··on The car industry A/B tested selling a car with and without CarPlay
I don't think Apple Carplay nor Android Audo are good technology either though. They both appear as an afterthought and are completely isolated from the car.

This is really depressing to me. I think this is abusive.

Your son has no concept of the implications of his body, face and identifying features being used here. He has no ability to opt-out, refuse consent, and avoid his data (biometric features) being swooped up in a data-centers for further training, further data collection & further monetization.

Your son didn't agree to the privacy policy of OpenAI. This is an extremely high level of disrespect to a person you created.

I don't really get the golf course hate.

We need more green spaces, we need people to be active. Golf is a fairly quite sport, animals do foster around the greenery with golf courses. I would much rather a golf course than hot concrete everywhere.

The "society has not collapsed" goal post seems odd to me.

More and more people are getting caught up in weird echo chambers, extremist groups, and spewing misinformation. The amount of pure slop on Facebook, either for engagement or manipulation is so high, there is more fake content on FB than real content. The conspiracy side of me believes the CIA is deliberately forcing us against each other, but even if no underlying entity is behind this, the same outcome is happening. This is a byproduct of both Social Media & Generative AI.

HDBaseT··on Trusting-Trust Attack against an Entire Linux Distribution
Whilst true, security will improve rapidly again. Potentially via AI, potentially via other technologies.

If its easy enough to find exploits, its likely similarly easy to scan code for exploits, or use AI-based anti-virus technologies. The only thing holding us back is the cost of compute. We can't all run the latest models against everything.

HDBaseT··on The car industry A/B tested selling a car with and without CarPlay
I'm yet to see a modern car with "good tech", the options tend to be:

- Mediocre tech at best.

- Awful tech at worse.
