H4CK3RM4N··on Google Contributor: Buy an ad removal pass for the web
I think that the ideal here is that something like this manages to supplant AdSense as Google's main actual business.
H4CK3RM4N··on WebAssembly: Mozilla Won
I think it's just used here as an example of Moz://a not aping Chrome, by moving their UI even further away.
H4CK3RM4N··on Apple Is Working on a Dedicated Chip to Power AI on Devices
As I understand it, Apple simply hasn't been able to provide the same quantity of training data that other companies use.
H4CK3RM4N··on Google starts tracking what people buy in physical stores
I would guess that Christian Mingle specified an age/location target, and assumed the name would filter out non-Christians from clicking(and therefore the company wouldn't have to pay).
H4CK3RM4N··on Google starts tracking what people buy in physical stores
Was there really any need to include a remark comparing Trump to Hitler?
H4CK3RM4N··on Xperia Touch makes any surface interactive
I feel like 720p/3GB would be capable enough for most basic Android utility apps, and some social media, which appears to be the use case they're targeting here.
H4CK3RM4N··on MIT economist believes U.S. is shifting to be more similar to developing nations
How do you propose ensuring a democracy doesn't fail? In the first passage I linked, hereditary aristocracy is referred to as "the worst of all governments", it suggests that "the wisest should govern the many", and Rousseau even acknowledges that aristtocracy "demands others which are peculiar to itself; for instance, moderation on the side of the rich and contentment on that of the poor".
H4CK3RM4N··on MIT economist believes U.S. is shifting to be more similar to developing nations
I feel like this is a more general symptom of attempting to apply a democracy where every citizen's is valued equally in a very large population. At some point, it's simply impossible to have a whole population which is both properly educated and able to voice it's opinion. This line of reasoning is a large part of the reason that Rousseau suggested that societies would be best served by an educated aristocracy[1].

America has an aristocracy emerging in it's political/business class, but it still attempts to have every voice heard in elections, and as a result you'll always have people who feel hardly done by attempting to rebel against the status quo.

I'm also going go take the opportunity to share CGP Grey's videos on First Past the Post voting[2] and the electoral college[3], and the issues with those. He also has videos directly the electoral college, without his opinions, if you need some background[4].

H4CK3RM4N··on Getting Julian Assange: The Untold Story
Nothing in this one either. I find Hacker News to be militantly Democrat fairly often.
H4CK3RM4N··on A Physicist Who Denies Dark Matter
Is that part of the Pocket acquisition? I was comparing Safari and Firefox a while ago and Safari's reader view was one of the deciding factors in my choice.
H4CK3RM4N··on Kill Google AMP before it kills the web
DDG feels like it's still using Google's early algorithms, whereas Google has moved to prioritising more question or natural-language based searches recently.
H4CK3RM4N··on Kill Google AMP before it kills the web
I think encrypted.google.com doesn't use AMP yet, so they could make that the default search
H4CK3RM4N··on Swedish prosecutors drop Julian Assange rape investigation
He can't be extradited to Sweden now if he leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if the US attempted to pursue him directly on some other charge. Before something else comes up, he could get on a plane somewhere now though safely enough though.
H4CK3RM4N··on What Does the Met’s New Online Collection Mean for Art Students?
On your point on algorithms removing the experience of discovery, I sometimes feel like there's something lost in getting your answer from the top comment on a Stack Overflow/Reddit post as opposed to digging through every response to a question on a forum, where I feel like you can gain more understanding of where the response came from.
H4CK3RM4N··on Inside Offices Where the Music Never Stops and Everyone Is DJ
I think they mentioned Spotify somewhere in the "Ten Commandments". I'm pretty sure that's their primary software.
H4CK3RM4N··on Real-Time Adaptive Image Compression
I think this is lossy compression, so it doesnt really overlap w/PNG in terms of performance/file size goals.
H4CK3RM4N··on Machine Learning
I think this is one of Munroe's general digs at corporate culture, and not specifically aimed at machine learning, that's just the current buzzword.
H4CK3RM4N··on U.S. Hacker Linked to Fake Macron Documents, Says Cybersecurity Firm
I'm surprised that there has been next to no coverage of the email leaks, and the media has appeared to focus on discrediting the forgery instead.
H4CK3RM4N··on The Right to Read (1997)
Are you honestly not concerned in the slightest about a future in which people have to go into debt in order to read textbooks?
H4CK3RM4N··on Rejection Letter
Thankfully you now have organisations like GoG and The Humble Bundle finally doing something for DRM-free media.
H4CK3RM4N··on Paint and Press: “Pirate Printer” Turns Street Graphics into Clothing Patterns
Something something submission guidelines. Something something this is intellectually stimulating, and I haven't seen it before.
H4CK3RM4N··on Cyberattacks in 12 Nations Said to Use Leaked N.S.A. Hacking Tool
They were hackers who acquired a trove of state secrets and were looking to make a quick buck. I've linked an archive of their initial statement below. I think it speaks volumes about how far the NSA can be trusted that these people were the ones to leak the tools instead of a state actor or someone previously known.

H4CK3RM4N··on How J.J. Abrams Created a Reading Experience Unlike Any Other
I would if it didn't have a horrible UI.
H4CK3RM4N··on Cyberattacks in 12 Nations Said to Use Leaked N.S.A. Hacking Tool
My impression was hat the Shadow Brokers already had, or were about to release the tools which Wikileaks ended up leaking. Regardless, these should've been disclosed to the manufacturers under Obama's policies.
H4CK3RM4N··on Smartphones can be fooled by fake, digitally composed fingerprints
https://www.apple.com/business/docs/iOS_Security_Guide.pdf

You're looking for the bit on the "Secure Enclave".

H4CK3RM4N··on Lost Generation: The Relay Computers
I've previously heard of ternary computers as a concept, but I don't think I'd heard of any actual implementations until now. Thanks for the link.
H4CK3RM4N··on Redesigning Apple Music after Being Rejected
Overcast is a ton better, and you can export your Podcasts subscriptions through iTunes.
H4CK3RM4N··on Opera is Reborn
I think it uses Chrome's codebase, including the secure storage locations.
H4CK3RM4N··on Opera is Reborn
The fappening was due to weak password security, and a set of criminals smart enough to sit on the exploit in order to achieve a goal. It wasn't due to some huge error or negligence on Apple's part.

> funded by Google

It's still an in profit producing open source software.

> a remote spying mechanism call telemetry

So does almost every other browser. It's easy enough to disable from memory.

> attempting to dominate the browser market

It's the reason IE isn't the market leader. There's a good reason for it to want market share.

I don't particularly trust Moz://a, I just trust Firefox a butt-ton more than Chrome or Opera.

H4CK3RM4N··on Quantum Up Close: What is a browser engine?
There's also this simulation of(and actual access to) a 2-qbit quantum computer.
