Guestmodinfo··on Scientists engineer unsinkable metal tubes by nano etching the interior
Don't say unsinkable just say hard to sink. Because someone will make shops and the shops will hit icebergs. Or you can imagine some miniature scenario where the tubes will be loaded with payloads and they will hit something and their texture will get crushed sink. So I feel hard to sink is a better word
Guestmodinfo··on Sunsetting the 512kb Club
He is trying to save the club from enshittification. He is not blindly trusting anyone but needs proof of trust to hand over the keys. But yes anyone can fork the project.
Guestmodinfo··on Everybody Loves to Hate Dubai. Here's Why They're Wrong
No one hates Dubai. I feel it's a paid article maybe from Dubai real estate ministry
Guestmodinfo··on The Ghost in the Funnel
I bookmarked you. I want to read more posts from you. Also we can just get rid of freemium and say yes we can solve that problem that a customer is having but not tell them how and they must pay one time payment to get full access. 1st 50 get that access at quitelow prices and leave favorable reviews and the next customers pay the real price. In that case not many will be coming up with 60% of your product (i.e. the freemium you mentioned in your blog). Also anyone trying to vibe code your functionality and selling it should be outrightly banned by the govt (yes that's the most difficult part). Once ppl who have already paid then they will not have much motivation to vibe code your product for themselves except for those who want to sell it to other customers but govt can ban them if they are found to be using vibe coding your functionality. But where to find that govt.....

I don't need E2EE on my email even though I know govts and corporations are reading my email. But I also want that recruiter email or email from zoom telling me if they are going to give me discount on my next payment cycle. And most people will put zoom, steam, and any other services like bank and govt agencies in the white list. So no costs will not rise. I don't use steam so even if steam pays money to send me mail with their offers , still I will delete it and they understand that. So unless it's a recruitment offer from steam they don't need to pay money to send mail to me. So prices won't rise because corporations will only rely on customers who are white listing them. Anyone else they will not send so overall the prices will go down rather than go up. You may think but how will Steam get new customers if not flooding the planet by emails. They would turn to influencers and affiliates. Maybe they already use them.

In a world of spam, the cost of reaching an actual person for soliciting is very high for a genuine free lancer like me. I wish the cost was not so much and I could reach effectively the people i want to reach by paying them even.
Guestmodinfo··on [dead]
Awesome. This was actually my idea too when I said that members of hackernews should be paid for messages to reach them by other hacker news members. But you came up with much nicer. implementation. I like it. Here was my idea https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44277071

12 is the magic number when things start going to shit. I'm sorry for what happened to you but maybe you should start a counselling service for clueless parents and tell them what should they do and what they shouldn't to correctly shelter the children. Because sheltering is an art. I think about it all the time. I always wish some one would take a bit of money but tell me how to guide or not guide my child to be independent in the rough world and to take decisions independently
Guestmodinfo··on Lenovo’s new ThinkPads score 10/10 for repairability
I would strongly advice against buying HP laptops if you want to install linux because MX linux worked well on mine pre-owned HP, Zorin OS worked well but somehow I could not install AntiX linux and secure boot of HP troubled me too much and I could install OpenBSD on it but each time I would restart then it would kernel panic and I would havento reinstall. Combined with a long holiday when I left it at home. Now my HP is practically bricked. It is not starting
Guestmodinfo··on Lenovo’s new ThinkPads score 10/10 for repairability
I have used not thinkpads but Lenovo IdeaPad from 2023. Very fragile. It has caused me to run many times to the repair shops.

Whereas Lenovo laptops (non Thinkpads) from 2007 and 2021 are very solid nearly unbreakable.

Guestmodinfo··on We [OpenAI] fired a research scientist for insider trading on Polymarket
Maybe they could not actually find his treasure trove and just sniffed out trinkets?
Guestmodinfo··on What Makes People Proud of Their Country?
Something that has helped them grow as a person or in profession. Or atleast something is a part of that nostalgic portion of their memories.
Guestmodinfo··on Danish government agency to ditch Microsoft software (2025)
Today I opened a .docx file on libreoffice on my linux machine. Did a whole bunch of editing and sent back the file for some semi official purpose. And the .docx file behaved as usual on the windows machine of the sender. I mean to say for many many people the workflows will not suffer even one but. It's just too much automated people whose work may suffer initially b cause they are using windows API or something like that. But that's like just for developers suffering. Most govt offices or universities just work on individual files and that will never suffer even one bit

Mir titles is a feeling. It's nostalgia. It's childhood for many including me. The books are excellent written by some of the finest of their times talking to the lowest highschool level student or even a child and making him or her understand fully what all is going on. Indians love Mir.

My favorite author is Landsberg. He is in Mir titles. He got defeated by our main man C V Raman by 2 weeks to publish the same research (independently) which got C V Raman the only Physics Nobel Prize for India.

Guestmodinfo··on HN-stories – Rust CLI to browse and open Hacker News stories from the terminal
I can already browse hacker news on the terminal using the links2 text browser. I can login, upvote, unvote, write comments from my terminal itself. Only thing is that terminal browsing is not "fresh" . I mean when I browse on fone or computer then the "new" is more fresh than what I get with browsing on the terminal using links2 browser. I haven't tried it with other terminal browsers because I keep forgetting how to use them even though I have several installed. Links2 is the most intuitive.
Guestmodinfo··on The Flawed Paper Behind Trump's $100k H-1B Fee
I don't know why the world is so happily criticizing American politicians. Let me tell you Indian context. One of my friends is an African who studies in a university here. She likes it being here and the group of friends that she has made here over bachelor's and master's. I asked her why don't you stay here and get a job here only. She said something about 5 crore rupees (544,000$) being paid by the employer to her or to the government I am not sure because it's such a big amount either way it is unachievable. So I don't understand why everyone gets to point fingers at Americans. I'm positive many countries are protectionist like this. Maybe it's a good thing maybe it's a bad thing. I honestly cannot tell.

Please include the setting called: "The buffaloes on the loose ate your entire sugarcane crop in the night. Yes Yes you made proper fences. But they are powerful and ruthless beasts. They tore through the wire fences and made one pole loose and the entire hoarde entered your field and ate your crop of 1.5 years. Now you have nothing." If I get a rupee for how many times it happens with sugarcane farmers in some parts of India
Guestmodinfo··on Rare Blood Clots After Certain Covid Vaccines
Everyone in India knew something is wrong with Covid vaccines. Even today I have some people talking about it. This newsheadline just confirms the general public observation that the experts were calling coincidence when we asked why are people suddenly dropping dead.
Guestmodinfo··on Indian food delivery giant leak location metadata, food preferences to strangers

Guestmodinfo··on Tech titans pour $50M into super PAC to elect AI-friendly candidates to Congress
How much of this amount will they show "donated for philanthropy" . In 3rd world countries the labelling is very fluid in nature so in US also will it be this fluid or will they show it as "business purpose spending"
Guestmodinfo··on 4chan for Clankers
Stop playing to the clankers' gallery just because you think you will be slaved in the next decade. It's not gonna happen. It's just rich ppl drumming up some absurd scheme. It has its limited uses but it's not gonna be worthwhile after a few years. How long they can shift the goal post.

EDIT: Did I just reply to a clanker?

Guestmodinfo··on Ireland rolls out basic income scheme for artists
I feel Ireland has produced lots and lots of literary genius like James Joyce and others. Sometimes I wake up at 5am for a book club about his book for two hours and we only finish 1 page of his book. This is the reason that is in their culture to celebrate and perpetuate art. I'm looking forward to more and more Irish art
Guestmodinfo··on Anthropic AI Safety Researcher Warns of World in Peril in Resignation
He has PhD in Machine Learning from Oxford that means he is an expert in his domain already before taking up the job and that means he already knew the field in and out and the games that are played. A PhD student has lots of industry interface
Guestmodinfo··on Anthropic AI Safety Researcher Warns of World in Peril in Resignation
I agree. He has PhD. He was not naive about what the company "wanted" from him when he joined. He just filled his basket and when time came he cashed it. But you bringing in the financials really validated the suspicion
Guestmodinfo··on Why would Elon Musk pivot from Mars to the Moon all of a sudden?

Guestmodinfo··on Five disciplines discovered the same math independently – none of them knew
There is trust issue about Maths. Since math people are mostly elitists going on about their love for math with their intuition and not translating their knowledge for other non math people lacking the intuition so other fields when they need to develop math as a need to understand their field better then they do so from the ground up because anyone can do math if they do the hard work. Its just math elitists who think their intuitions are above everyone else. So people dont go to math people and say hey please build a math model for this problem i am having because they know they may be shot down and so they develop math on their own. i wish there was a math bridge which could explain most of math things even to the non intuitive people like us
Guestmodinfo··on Could ionospheric disturbances influence earthquakes?
People here sometimes had in their minds found some inkling between weather patterns and earthquakes but i always thought of them as old wives tales. Turns out those people are more intelligent than me and were pointing in the right direction
Guestmodinfo··on Why does 2+2=4? What math teaches us about deep reality
Just yesterday I was thinking about it. Who will decide we are not using circular reasonings for these seemingly nonsensical things (to my non math loving brain). I read a proof of why 2 is greater than 1 and I have forgotten about it but I just don't like such things. Why are we proving definitions and who will keep out the circular reasonings when math is being built from the ground up. I view math ppl with lot of suspicion because they have intuition and they don't explain but who would say that their collective intuition is wrong (if it is). That's tyrannical for the non math people
Guestmodinfo··on Early Christian Writings
Because all ideas and all thought and all knowledge stem from Jesus and eventually will be used to worship HIM only but other gods are just made up distractions. This is the profound underlying theology
