She's lucky they didn't execute her. I lived there and had peers pressure me to go to see the Friday executions in Riyadh but these are the type of people they are executing, not rapists and murderers. I can only hope I live long enough to see their oil money run out and watch what happens next. It turns my stomach how they can get these soccer players and golf leagues and all this other sportswashing.
He says 33% of hiring managers admit to creating job reqs and advertising them with no intention of filling them so that the existing people on the teams those new hires would go to feel that help is on the way and they don't quit.
But it's a trick to keep people from leaving and to be able to continue to overwork their employees and squeeze out a bit more before burnout.
I've read if it doesn't go away after a couple weeks it's permanent but I've experienced it before where it took a year maybe one time and another time was 6 months of no improvement and then a couple months of dramatic improvement to where what was left was so much lower that when I heard it it makes me grateful and happy because it reminds me of how lucky I am.
I had kids older so I’m biased but imagining my kids grow up and move away how often am I going to see them and talk to them? Or rather how often are they going to want to see or talk to me. Hopefully a lot but so I have kids when I’m 18 for a type of life that may or may not exist.
If I could do it again we would have had kids maybe 8 years earlier but that still doesn’t make a huge difference. There’s such a strong sentiment in this thread that people who wait are selfish or fools or the only benefits are financial but I feel like there’s a disdain from people who had kids early .
My wife was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, we were able to travel the world and do things she wouldn’t be able to do had we had kids right away and tried to do when we were 40. Is that worth having 15 years less with our kids? I guess time will tell but I know either way we enjoy them every day as a home maker and work from home dad they get to enjoy us as young kids and we take them on all kinds of adventures since I work in the late afternoon evening.
Citi consistently was the card who would freeze and not work when I was overseas despite me telling them I was traveling leading to many embarrassing moments. They always say, oh we're just trying to protect your account from fraud. I'm like, you already guarantee i'm not responsible for fraud so you're just making my life inconvenient to protect CITI from fraud.
I went to basic training and looking back on it, it's almost funny how easy it was compared to other training and situations I was in, but RELATIVE to my life up to that point it was way harder than anything I had experienced as a high schooler. and relatively speaking it was harder than any other training that came later that was actually more challenging. I'm not sure if that makes sense but i'm agreeing with you.
All shipping in that area is being attacked not just Israeli-tied ships. Also if someone uses violence to terrorize you into complying with their beliefs that is literal terrorism and it's bad.
That happened to me a lot more as a child but i think still sometimes as an adult. I remember a dream just bouncing a basketball over and over. It's weird.
My favorite app on oculus store was designed for nursing home people i think, alcove. It's free too. I wondered if there were actually people using it in those situations and I'm glad to see there are and people's lives are improved.
It’s not a comprehensive review but an exciting feature he’s experienced that, based on his experience as a photographer, he thinks will be a huge deal.
If Canada surprise attacked your hometown and killed your entire family would you have empathy when the United States declared all civilians must clear out of Montreal before a retaliatory strike takes place? It’s amazing how the slaughter of innocents is justified because they were being oppressed. If the Japanese in internment camps massacred the nearby town would you have empathy for them then when they were punished or would you say well look at what the US did! It put them in camps. They had no choice.
Ww2 Japan was bombed by the United States and thousands died after they launched a surprise attack which killed thousands of Americans including hundreds of civilians.
Palestine launched a surprise attack killing thousands and now they face the same thing.
I mean, half the country thought it was fine so you can automatically remove monuments to anyone who lived in the south and some parts of the north from 1619 to 1865. And yes I know only a small percentage owned slaves but that's because they were expensive not because no one else wanted to.
This is literally anything for any place. There are surely articles in Japan by Japanese people that criticize a certain aspect of their culture and then reassuring contrarians that cherry pick things to tell people what they want to hear because it sells newspapers gets ratings etc. But yeah, jump on the F america bandwagon on hacker news and act like we're unique in these things. This is literally all humans.
Counterpoint - I've had several people including vietnamese americans say that the pho you get in the US is better than what's in Vietnam because of the food inspectors and other government systems that ensure a safe food supply line and cooking preparation area etc versus Vietnam. I'll tell you I lived in Colombia and the best bandeja paisa is in texas versus the places in Colombia. I've spent years in Mexico and I can find mexican food that is almost as good. Nothing beats ramen in japan or sushi for that matter but some of the best sushi i ever ate was in a large city in the middle east and I've done several trips to Japan.
Americans aren't as stupid as you assume we are. We know often food like Chinese and Mexican is catered to us but the same happens all over. It's not like we're some special lazy garbage people. If you go to Spain and order Chinese, it's made to accomdate their tastes.
All I can think of is that something on the cabinet indicating it was cabinet number 3/3? It seems they knew there were two others before the family came forward.
Places like the FBI used to have a specific number like you can’t have used marijuana more than 5 times. And then they’d polygraph you. But yes I knew people as well with normal TS clearances who had disclosed hard drugs but some intel organizations have stricter rules beyond that.
No one in my schools brought anything like that because they get confiscated forever. It was a big deal and also came with additional punishment. I am firmly a millennial. Passing notes was rare too and if caught they would go to principals office. Now kids whip phones out and play and assault teachers who take their phone or record teachers and mock them and other students. It’s horrible.
You too can be a proud owner of a beat up truck with 200k-300k miles for 10,000 dollars that needs another 5-10k of maintenance!
Nobody says truck people bad, you're strawmanning all over this thread. I've owned two trucks, a full sized and a compact, I'm a republican and I believe that if I want to drive a 90s Kei truck and take the risk of dying in a car accident I should have the ability to assume that risk for myself. Same as driving a car from the 60s.
2000 years ago Herodotus was talking and writing and nobody cared and his buddy was probably like, hey man remember that one guy from 300 years ago nobody knew who he was but look at him now! Everyone knows his name! And then some snarky roman was like, "I don't think comparing the great works of that guy from 300 years ago and the platitudes of this Herodotus guy is the way to go with this... " and he used the ellipsis even to indicate how little he respected this opinion to imply that he would say more but really what's the point with fools like these...
