Graphguy··on Umbra: an ACID-compliant database built for in-memory analytics speed
Lots of people using it in production. Snowflake, IBM Cloud, Goldman, VMWare.

CouchDB is re-architecting onto it, https://youtu.be/SjXyVZZFkBg

Graphguy··on NSA's Backdoor Key from Lotus Notes (2002)
CouchDB is still thriving. It's adopting FoundationDB in 4.0... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjXyVZZFkBg good talk on that here at FoundationDB Summit
Graphguy··on IBM casts doubt on Google's claims of quantum supremacy
Quantum supremacy is more about quantum computers being able to do something that classical computers could never do (1). I think that's the heart of the controversy. I'm quite sure Quantum has already proved faster for certain use cases already (2)

Graphguy··on Graph database reinvented: Dgraph gets $11.5M to pursue unique, opinionated path
Depends how much time you have...

Fifteen minutes: “How to Choose a Database” by Ben Anderson (https://www.ibm.com/cloud/blog/how-to-choose-a-database-on-i...)

Three hours: Jepsen analyses of distributed systems safety. Kyle tests software ranging across the database spectrum.

One week: Designing Data-Intensive Applications by Martin Kleppman.

Disclaimer: I work with Ben and think he takes a really nice tact on this subject, while it may be orthogonal to your immediate question regarding trade-offs.

NP - I can submit a PR to your work tomorrow? Seems like a useful tool for surveying the growing PG-aaS space!
Graphguy··on PostgreSQL DBaaS vendor comparison and calculator
IBM has a relatively new managed PG offering with mutually exclusive scaling of Disk and RAM. Neat feature to not have to rely on instance sizing, https://cloud.ibm.com/catalog/services/databases-for-postgre....

disclosure: I work @ IBM.

Graphguy··on HCL buys Notes from IBM
+ IBM acquired Cloudant, which is fully CouchDB compatible, and is based off Couch.
Graphguy··on AI could get 100 times more energy-efficient with IBM’s new artificial synapses
full disclosure, I work for IBM. But it does link to a fairly informative research paper published in Nature.

"The computational energy efficiency of 28,065 billion operations per second per watt and throughput per area of 3.6 trillion operations per second per square millimetre that we calculate for our implementation exceed those of today’s graphical processing units by two orders of magnitude."

Graphguy··on Robinhood Opens Cryptocurrency Trading
the fees are tucked into their allocation strategy. they hold no less than 7% in cash for all strategies. They claim it smooths out returns but it's not desirable and can limit returns https://thefinancebuff.com/schwab-intelligent-portfolios-hol...
Graphguy··on Amazon Neptune – Fast, reliable graph database built for the cloud
Is this JanusGraph under the covers? Guessing since Neptune is a nod to Janus.
