Split the site. Forums were good because they had culture. Reddit’s subreddits leak into other ones. They will split it to one that is NSFW and SFW soon for advertising reasons.

Make a minimum requirement of 1000 characters, all spammers evaders are banned.

Make blocking hide the person you blocked’s posts.

Bring back visible downvotes.

Ban politics. It will not actually work and they’ll do it covertly but it would significantly improve the site.

Ban abusive mods. If some no life power tripper is being an asshole or bans you for posting in another sub, fuck them.

Unless you’re comparing it to an arduino, many other boards like ESPs have WiFi or WiFi and BT as well, and aren’t hard to get it running quickly. The zero has no wireless as far as I remember.

What were the zero and pi zero w used in?

A Raspberry Pi will absolutely not be faster at turning on a lightbulb versus embedded solutions, running it through the linux stack will make it much slower.
GhettoComputers··on Pine64 and Radxa's new Pi CM4-compatible boards
I don’t need Linux to turn off a lightning bulb the same way I don’t need a supercomputer to run Microsoft word.

Yeah I get murdered there. I should learn to get better I am always beaten by computers too.

I would love to see XiangQi on Lichess or a suggestion for a good one. I suck at Chinese chess, but after learning it I was demolishing my friends from the headspace it gave me, the complexity really seemed to help me be a better chess player. I feel like I was an amateur "take as many pieces as you can and overwhelm the king" before and Chinese Chess turned me into a "sacrifice your pieces to position yourself better, value the pieces differently at different points of the game, and kill the king ASAP with pressure" player.

In Chinese Chess, I try playing against others and I know I probably lost in the first 5 moves often, I really suck at it, and in 10 moves I usually can tell I lost, I have never won once against a player online.

Linux servers are everywhere, MS uses linux, linux users are common on here, wikipedia killed Encarta. Don't be amazed, its the norm.

Haha I remember a friend had made a lisp one with as few lines as he could use, on his macbook which he used the gyro to install smackbook to change the virtual desktop. https://www.engadget.com/2006-05-25-smackbook-and-macsaber-b... good times.

Lots of ifs, like if I installed a hardware keylogger onto your computer.

>I don't get it. You are going to connect to a "secure" server from an insecure machine with full access. Do you expect that your server stays secure after that?

Yes, XEN and hardware virtualization keeps it all safe. VMs like those on Qubes work the same way. Most laptops don't have good virtualization hardware, expandable ram, or decent processors. Connecting to a server doesn't compromise it in any real world scenarios, the same way if I remote access your laptop through mine, root ssh is not common, and you'll have it isolated in a VM anyway won't you?

CDMA has died since LTE. Sprint worked on hybrid CDMA/GSM since they needed SIM cards.

>Also Nvidia has been pretty open-source friendly with their ARM platforms in addition to their being pretty powerful in their own right, and that doesn't have to be mutually exclusive with the concerns it would raise if they controlled the whole ecosystem of ARM platforms.

Yes that is true, surprisingly so since fuck you nvidia. Intel and AMD have x86 rights and GPUs and can make more integrated devices, while nvidia can't. Since it didn't go through, they better be good at RISC-V!

GhettoComputers··on Pine64 and Radxa's new Pi CM4-compatible boards
What are you running on your ESP? Are you using https://github.com/FreeRTOS or arduino? Low level embedded is harder for sure.
GhettoComputers··on Pine64 and Radxa's new Pi CM4-compatible boards
IoT I can safely say that running a heavy OS is not the best way to do so. Most IoT are lighter, cheaper, use less power and smaller. Using a computer with an OS for IoT is rarely a good idea from what I seen. He said he used ESP32 instead, so they can do the same thing.

>I'm still not sure I understand. If there is a working proof of concept for the exploit that is published, would you still consider that an invisible hypothetical?

Yes. If deployment is difficult and not applicable in real world settings it isn't really a threat, its like reading about the TouchID since the first iPhone 5S being tricked by copying fingerprints, or needing a bust of a person to trick FaceID. Do people still usually use it? Its a recipe, maybe even its cooked, but if nobody eats the poisoned food because it smells bad, I am not worried I might eat it.

>then significant money is at risk from security vulnerabilities then I'd usually expect security to win out.

In practice it sadly isn't true like the leaks of other people's data that constantly happens.

I think updating browsers is a good idea, I think sandboxing apps can be safer, using a VM for some functionality could be useful too (if you run XP and malware detects its a VM, it doesn't even infect it). Basically I see most security issues as paranoia when its academics publishing hypothetical attacks that have never been seen in the wild, if they made super ebola in a lab or anthrax, I am not too worried about breathing it in.

I would like it patched if the cost is worth it. Intel's was not, I disabled it, and religiously update my browser, my computer is faster, I have safety despite it never existing as an attack because it was easy to defeat.

This is Linux after all.

This niche is not "real people" because "real people" don't use Linux. At the same time there are a lot of unreasonable requests, and the developer makes something free and shouldn't be bothered with such a low reward. Rudimentary functionality in Linux is quite good, maybe it will be a real issue in usage, but "real linux" users use keyboard. ;)

GhettoComputers··on Gaming on Wayland
That's great, I'll switch when its not a skeletonized version of the functionality I use now, I hope there is an easy way to import global hotkeys in my current programs, and have widgets or GUI support. I tried using ctrl and up as a hotkey in the compositor for instance and it never worked in dbus when I tried last week.

I just mentioned GNOME because I actually really dislike it, and was forced to use it for good tablet support with wayland, they broke those plugins I used.

GhettoComputers··on Gaming on Wayland
Encryption attacks are being mitigated by backups, but Linux servers don't usually use x.org or GUI do they? This might be why desktop linux isn't being adopted by business, but my point was that we hear of encryption attacks often, but not a single x.org attack that would make migration more pressing. Its living in a nuclear shelter when there is no nuclear threat, and living in an uncomfortable state out of paranoia.

Linux is said to be safer in the public, but if x.org is that bad, is windows actually safer since it doesn't use x?

I think its useful to mitigate problems, without real world examples its hard to care about invisible hypotheticals, especially at the cost of lost functionality.

GhettoComputers··on Gaming on Wayland
I am suggesting that wayland may not reach critical mass because of backporting these features, and wayland lacking a lot of functionality would prevent me from using it, until its reach partiality or enough functionality. I had mostly a great time with it on GNOME and a tablet interface, but I missed widgets and some functionalities.
GhettoComputers··on Gaming on Wayland
No, I am asking about attacks in the wild. I know spectre and meltdown were possible to exploit, but its different from it existing as an attack, like a recipe versus a cooked meal.

Thank you for your expertise in the thread.

GhettoComputers··on Gaming on Wayland
At this rate is it possible that x.org will just absorb the benefits of wayland while having graphical issues and less safety?

>If labels are meaningless then why claim that conservatism is about less government control?

Republican and Democrats are not conservative or liberal.

Example: Nancy Pelosi banned ecigs to protect the children, does that mean that she is conservative?

Clinton defunded welfare, was racist, and also deregulated the market. Is he conservative?

Trump mentioned he would like to deregulate all drugs. Does that make him liberal?

Obama raided on dispensaries for federal reason, does that mean he is conservative, or does that mean he is liberal for strong central government?

I mention these heads because the polls don't matter, the policy makers do. The politicians do not work for the people, they are not beholden to their promises or any morals. Does it matter that a bunch of people want weed to be legal and have no way to make it legal, or does one person who can sign it into law matter more? I know my answer, hundreds of my pot smoking friends have less power than one politician.

>Polls like any statistical sample are not perfect but they aren't worthless.

Lets look at the example of "Political ideology"

How do you quantify that? If I consider myself liberal, I am liberal? If I consider myself conservative, I am conservative? These are not concrete definitions. I don't vote downballot. People are hypocritical. What value does this poll give to anyone? What use will it have? What can anyone use it for? When Trump ignored polls he won. When Florida was a bellwether, it is not anymore. I don't see any use in them at all.

Would you call Schwarzenegger a liberal despite him being Republican? Do moderate Democrats share the same value as the ones that are openly communist? Do fundamental christians, libertarians, tea party members, and Trump's MAGA cult of personality really deserve to be lumped together? They are all hypocrites like all humans. I edited my comment, I care about values, not parties and neither party is either or.

I hate politics usually, but I hope my point is clear: I see conservatism as devolution and and I am happy Oregon is deregulating all drugs, there are more democrats than republicans, many unaffiliated with either and they are not letting central government push them around. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Oregon

In another thread I mentioned how Bob Dole's achievements are very left wing. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/05/us/politics/bob-dole-dead...

>He was most proud of helping to rescue Social Security in 1983, of pushing the landmark Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 and of mustering a majority of reluctant Republicans to support Mr. Clinton’s unpopular plan to send American troops to Bosnia in 1995.

>Russell Republicans approached Mr. Dole in 1950 to run for the Kansas State Legislature — they saw the hometown war hero as an easy sell. But he had not yet picked a party, though his parents were New Deal Democrats. He said later that he had signed on with the Republicans after he was told that that’s what most Kansas voters were.

also:

>It was a surprising turn for Mr. Dole, who was long linked in the public mind with the glowering Nixon. He had defended that beleaguered president so fiercely that one critic branded him Nixon’s “hatchet man,” a label that stuck.

Lets not focus on labels, and lets focus on policy, and remember nobody follows the rules, especially politicians.

You definitely want the Jetson. Great support, decent hardware, CUDA, Linux, etc. I was called a shill for being sad that ARM and Nvidia didn’t merge but I think this is the best quality device, and has tons of support.

Android is Linux for everyone, it’s imperfect and it’s nice in many ways, but I don’t run x86 android on my computer.

Jailbreak it, my iPhone is a mobile Unix OS. Relevant CLI has been ported, APT since iPhone 2G. I have neovim for instance. You can use VNC. Here is some Unix tools https://github.com/ProcursusTeam/Procursus

Or consider this: https://en.jingos.com/jingpad-a1/

GhettoComputers··on Pine64 and Radxa's new Pi CM4-compatible boards
You’ll want a breakout board to connect it to motors, or see other projects. It’s possible to make a separate mobile platform for the sensors on the phone and have it gather info.

You’re going to want to look for NPUs and probably not GPUs. If you don’t have any idea check this out for inspiration. https://arxiv.org/abs/2004.10934 The DJI founders wanted engineers to be seen as hero’s instead of sports stars. He sponsors engineers to complete here, the prize is their dream job. https://www.robomaster.com/en-US

>Look at any poll out there.

I don't trust polls. Dehumanizing people into numbers is pointless. People are not numbers, and the elections showed how worthless they are.

During Obama there were raids on dispensaries. These labels are meaningless.

We are not liberal or conservative. We are people with many different often hypocritical viewpoints, nobody is consistent. Nixon’s universal healthcare would have been more comprehensive than Obamacare, but Senator Kennedy rejected it. Politicians are opportunistic, Obama said he was not pro gay marriage, and Nixon said he’d never put in price controls (he did). Clinton was a carbon copy of a republican and weakened welfare and popularized super predators as well as deregulate heavily.

Let’s not fight over labeling, let’s agree all politicians are dishonest.

I’m a fan of lower taxes (I think it’s silly to expect to give money to government and expect a bigger return), deregulation in over regulated markets that serves to only help big businesses, entropy in energy waste/use, removing subsidies from farming since it’s harmful to the environment and health, making natural resources into corporations so they have the sane rights as citizens and can sue for damages done.

>Conservatives are more opposed to drug legalization and are more supportive of police than liberals.

Who legalized marijuana in California, and said he inhaled on video?

>more supportive of police than liberals.

NIMBY are not liberal or conservative, when did you last hear defund the police?

GhettoComputers··on Pine64 and Radxa's new Pi CM4-compatible boards
What does "heart of a robot" mean? If it just needs to be remote controlled you can do that with simpler hardware like arduino. Do you need computer vision? Jetson has good support for that. Do you want it to be for edge computing? It just has to relay info to a server.

What is your project? The Jetson is probably the best choice. Saying GPU is very vague, there are GPUs that are good at decoding video for instance that might not be useful.

GhettoComputers··on Pine64 and Radxa's new Pi CM4-compatible boards
