GenerocUsername··on Why don't people return their shopping carts?
I live by this. It is one of the least controversial 4chan takes.

There is nothing wrong with citing 4chans shopping cart theory.

It is truly a marker of good vs bad people as far as it comes to participating in a high trust society.

GenerocUsername··on I may have found a way to spot U.S. at-sea strikes before they're announced
"...for their home countries to prosecute"

Does not imply a belief of innocence.

GenerocUsername··on China has added forest the size of Texas since 1990
Maybe the rest of the world should stop doing their manufacturing in china.
GenerocUsername··on China has added forest the size of Texas since 1990
Yes thats right.
GenerocUsername··on iOS 26.1 lets users control Liquid Glass transparency
I don't see it said enough, but liquid glass slowed my M3 noticably.

Odd I got the update 2 weeks before M5 launch.

GenerocUsername··on Show HN: Autism Simulator

GenerocUsername··on EPA tells some scientists to stop publishing studies
I see your point of view, but the fact is they are growing and so deploying new assets. The US is not growing and for us it is mostly about replacing assets. They have different payoff schedules. We have pre built infrastructure we are still paying off. You cannot just rebuild it mid lifecycle without taking massive losses.
GenerocUsername··on EPA tells some scientists to stop publishing studies
Yes
GenerocUsername··on EPA tells some scientists to stop publishing studies
In a way it is? Let me explain.

The USA is big, but China bigger. If the USA over optimizes on reducing greenhouse gas today, at the expense of our long term economic and world power, China, who cares for less about preserving the world will continue to destroy the world and claim the most power simultaneously.

So while we can reduce OUR footprint by taking ourselves out of the game, the world still loses.

So now try to find a less myopic solution where we remain powerful enough to get the whole world to tamper down their impacts.

We don't win by removing ourselves from the competition. And the competition has a high chance of killing us all. But rolling over is a guaranteed way to lose everything everywhere.

Oh and the prior commitments like the Paris accord were engineered to harm us while allowing China to dominate.

GenerocUsername··on Suno Studio, a Generative AI DAW
Well then I have news for you... That's what Suno is. You can generate from simple text prompt, you can describe timings and chord progressions and song structure. You can get very detailed, even providing recordings

Yes the barrier for entry is low, but there is a very high ceiling as well

GenerocUsername··on Suno Studio, a Generative AI DAW
You record yourself whistling it and out it in as an input.

I've been recording myself on guitar and using suno to turn it into professional quality recordings with full backing band.

And I'm not trying to sell it, I just like hearing the ideas in my head turned into fully fleshed music of higher quality than I could produce with 100x more time to invest into it

GenerocUsername··on The bloat of edge-case first libraries
Yes
GenerocUsername··on EPA Seeks to Eliminate Critical PFAS Drinking Water Protections
The motto of the forest service is 'do the most good for the most people for the longest time'

Reality is you sometimes have to drop some dead weight for 2% of people to protect and further the lives of the other 98%.

Turns out it would have been better to find alternative solutions for those 2% back when they were only 0.2%, but instead Dems made them the center of attention and is now staking the future of our country on continued pacification of an increasingly violent 'underserved' social blight.

Drop the T. Protect children. Enforce laws in our urban murder cities... Or continue to lose the culture war. If you turn to violence during this process it will be worse for many more people than the 2% being staked for protection currently.

GenerocUsername··on EPA Seeks to Eliminate Critical PFAS Drinking Water Protections
Well then maybe it's time to cut some dead weight from the left platform... Many centrists want clean water and sane society and bathrooms and woke ideology maybe needs to take a back seat in discourse for a while
GenerocUsername··on Amazon RTO policy is costing it top tech talent, according to internal document
Hey if we can hire them there instead of importing then here I might be onboard for this... Oh wait, most companies are doing both regardless
GenerocUsername··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
Are the resources to understand the code on a computer? Whether it's code, swagger, or a collection of sticky notes, your job is now to supply context to the AI.

I am 100% convinced people who are not getting value from AI would have trouble explaining how to tie shoes to a toddler

GenerocUsername··on Claude Sonnet 4 now supports 1M tokens of context
Your first week of AI usage should be crawling your codebase and generating context.md docs that can then be fed back into future prompts so that AI understands your project space, packages, apis, and code philosophy.

I guarantee your internal tools are not revolutionary, they are just unrepresented in the ML model out of the box

GenerocUsername··on Valve confirms credit card companies pressured it to delist certain adult games
This makes little sense with even the tiniest amount of probing.

This is a solvable geo regulation issue, solvable like many other geo regulatory issues

GenerocUsername··on I'm dialing back my LLM usage
How is that that different than working in a large codebase with 25+ other devs.

My org has 160 engineers working on our e-commerce frontend and middle tiers. I constantly dive into repos and code I have no ownership of. The gitblame shows a contractor who worked here 3 years ago frequently.

Seems LLM does good in small, bad in medium, good again as small modules within big.

GenerocUsername··on Normalizing Flows Are Capable Generative Models
Agree. I am a image gen laymen, but when I was running stable diffusion in 2022 it seemed like I could get the same image if I used the same seed and parameters. Seemed easy to get same image when you have full control of the inputs. The randomness is a choice

GenerocUsername··on RFK Jr.: HHS moves to restore public trust in vaccines
He ousted the whole group which does have more standing than singling someone out. And reasoning can be as simple as conflict of interest... Eg being unwilling to challenge pharma lobbyist current state directives
GenerocUsername··on RFK Jr.: HHS moves to restore public trust in vaccines
Illegal?

The committee is under the control of HHS Secretary... JFK. He literally has the authority to do what he did.

Changing a plan you inherited but now own is not illegal.

GenerocUsername··on Scientific conferences are leaving the US amid border fears
Yes, I do believe the global majority can infact be wrong and misled.
GenerocUsername··on Ask HN: Anyone struggling to get value out of coding LLMs?
At a macro level, people from the former group might be doing better than you think.

I have gone from Senior II, to Lead Architect, to Principal Engineer in the years LLMs have been available.

It's not literally a 100x multiplier, but I have leveraged their ability to both fill in details where I lack specific knowledge, and as a first point of contact when researching a new space.

LLMs have enabled me to widen my sphere of influence by deepening my abilities at every point of my T-shaped knowledge curve.

GenerocUsername··on Scientific conferences are leaving the US amid border fears
I had to scroll to far too find sanity in this thread.

I suspect the opposition party is literally just fear-bombing social media with what ifs and AI slop to further divide folks.

But if some conferences or even colleges full of people susceptible to that kind of misinformation begin to fail, I'm all for it.
