I was thinking to myself, this is nice, first thing in a while not mentioning AI, then bam: "Built to be worked by agents"
Gabrys1··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Thankfully, we can now use AI to design a test that tests AI. And the AI company can use AI to detect the test and cheat. And we can then use AI to implement anti-cheat.

All that energy wasted... could just drive a big V8 instead and make less money for the big tech

Gabrys1··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
At last, it wasn't AI agents!
Gabrys1··on Dropbox's Jan 1st 2027 terms of service
For "this or any later version", I have always read this line as you get to choose which version you want to follow, not the one granting you the licence.
Gabrys1··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
Ah, I missed that part, thanks!
Gabrys1··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
So in some very weird way, this is similar to right to repair vs John Deere.

Or is it just capitalism doing capitalism stuff?

Gabrys1··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
Universities should soon start having own-hosted AI based off open models
Gabrys1··on How An AI math breakthrough ignited a controversy
Any idea why OpenAI cared about this name removed from the paper?
Gabrys1··on Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions
Knowing the vulnerability, creating an exploit might be relatively easy now that we have AI to figure the boring stuff out.
Gabrys1··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
anecdata and tribal knowledge tells me there are no mean Canadians
Gabrys1··on Quantum battery upends the rules of charging
I miswrote. I meant that it's not the battery being the bottleneck, but rather something else - the charger, the cooling, the grid, the user/app setting a non-maximum power etc.
Gabrys1··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
Use Debian. It's matured perfectly as a graphical distro IMO
Gabrys1··on Quantum battery upends the rules of charging
Rule of thumb: ANY li-ion cell (or battery of cells) can charge from ~20 to ~70% in under 20 minutes. If not, the charging is not done correctly (either you're limited by the charger or the cooling of the battery)
Gabrys1··on Hook, hold, harvest and hide: Meta's alleged strategy laid out in first week
By your definition, almost any ad is mind control and should be forbidden. At least any effective ad. And I don't disagree at that conclusion. There's a difference between telling people you have a product and making people want to have your product
Gabrys1··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Make it car exports as well. A small 5-10% export fee, so that the premium Americans pay for the cars is distributed between both countries
Gabrys1··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Oh, also add a note on the bottle that this higher price is thanks to your beloved Trump.

Canadians are way too nice to do this, but it would be sensational.

Gabrys1··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
I don't know, maybe there's not enough of it?

> Canada supplies the overwhelming majority of U.S. maple-syrup imports.

Gabrys1··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
I think a retaliation for a tariff should be an export tax. Let's say Canada puts a 50% export tax on maple syrup unless the car tariff is withheld
Gabrys1··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
Maybe it could cause the phone to "randomly" bootloop or something? "Oh no, my phone is broken again, last time this happened I needed to do a factory reset"
Gabrys1··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
I once sold a fully working car for $250, so why not
Gabrys1··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
So, your Honda is worth $400?
Gabrys1··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
This is measurable and actionable. Some tires pollute more, some less
Gabrys1··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
the original tires on my 2016 mazda 6 I bought new from a dealer in California were quite bad. Dunlop something. Bad on wet, okay on dry, lasted for short time. Replaced them after 2 years if I recall correctly. I wonder if original tires are any better 10 years later...

Gabrys1··on US strikes $1.2B deal to pay German firm to halt offshore wind projects
I conducted a fun experiment.

Prompted an AI this:

It's year 2005, and you're an AI on an alien planet. you get a piece of news from the future from a planet called Earth. Tell me what you understand from the text and what you think about it: (then pasted the article text)

Gabrys1··on 98.css
one can do one level of tabs using # fragments and :target selector if I recall correctly
Gabrys1··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
This reminded me that I tried to create the account on the Oracle Cloud and claim the free tier.

I tried a few times it always went to some sort of verification that after some time ended up in a rejection with no follow up process.

fun

W in WINE stands for WINE
Gabrys1··on Show HN: Elevators
It should be both, I think. Same goes for queuing in the restaurant. Waiting for the table for 5 minutes, then 5 minutes for the waiter, then 10 minutes for the drink, then 25 for the food is better than waiting for the table for 25 and then getting your full order in another 5.

Basically you have an irrational sense of progress even if things get delayed
