FranzFerdiNaN··on Claude Haiku 5.5
It’s not really AI slop, it’s how most modern SAAS websites look like.
FranzFerdiNaN··on GPT-Synopsys: Frontier Intelligence to Revolutionize Chip Design
I’m glad my colleagues and I are all mediocre , because if the alternative is having someone with your arrogance around then no thanks.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Gemini 4 Argon
The resources per prompt aren’t that much .

Also I hope you don’t have children, eat meat, travel, have a car, run AC, buy things in other countries and such. Those things all take way way way more natural resources.

FranzFerdiNaN··on Gemini 4 Argon
Can’t wait to get my hands on yet another model that’s only good coding, because clearly that’s what the world needs.

I still miss the days of Sonnet 4.5 and 4o, those models were actually good at creating stories and writing text that was actually readable by a human being.

FranzFerdiNaN··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Opus 5.5 feels like yet another massive increase. I've got it at my job and it's basically one shotting quite large refactors that would have taken me at least a day if i had to do it by hand. Now i let Opus do the refactor in ten minutes and i go through it by hand to clean it up for an hour and it's done.

Its quite worrisome honestly and i feel like that 'im in danger' Simpsons meme more and more. Right now i still have a lot of domain expertise which helps in knowing which questions to ask and which problems to solve, but well, i wonder how long that is going to save my job.

FranzFerdiNaN··on DevDay 2026 Recap
Honestly this is me with almost everything the Ai companies release. I just don’t seem to have any problems that AI could solve in my personal life.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Intellectuals Are Fucking Idiots
So what do you propose? We stop any research into anything that isnt math because it fails to adhere to the methods of math? Becasue biology and medicine clearly are soft sciences, and physics and chemistry are just applied math so why bother.

And well, math is just applied philosophy and suddenly we're back to the ancient Greeks i guess.

FranzFerdiNaN··on Intellectuals Are Fucking Idiots
Why should someone put effort in rebutting his nonsense? He is the one who posits some outrageous claims without any proof.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
A surplus means nothing if they are in the wrong location.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
So a tank is problematic, but a slaughter house is fine?
FranzFerdiNaN··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
The 4.5 models were the last Anthropic models that were actually pleasant to read. Especially Sonnet 4.5 was really fun to use for non-coding purposes. I liked having it generate silly short stories while waiting for deployments to finish. Haiku 4.5 still has a small bit of that charm, but 4.6 and later models are all unbearable unless you want a simple 'this is the answer' to a question.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
As a Dutch person i find Afrikaans always interesting whenever i happen to encounter it in the wild. As if a common ancestor took a very different evolutionary path.
FranzFerdiNaN··on AI researchers debate how close we are to recursive self-improvement
I don’t disagree, but unfortunately a not insignificant part of humanity seems to think that their happiness primarily depends on knowing that other people are suffering harder than they are. So that’s perhaps not the right thing to optimise for.
FranzFerdiNaN··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
Plenty of male-led businesses also turned out to be scams, and yet no one goes 'that guy looks sharp, but he is male so seems suspicious'. Which only proofs how deep sexism is rooted.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
Knowledgable people can confirm what the AI produces is correct. I could make ChatGPT produce a result on an open question and I would have zero way to verify its actual correctness.

Which is less interesting work. And you probably need to do the hard grunt work by hand first to develop the skills and intuition to be able to verify an AI-generated result. So you can’t outsource everything to AI without loss of skill.

FranzFerdiNaN··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
It’s not apathy. It’s the fact that almost nobody can really understand what these results mean.

I’m not a mathematician so I have zero clue what “ New upper bounds on sphere-packing density down to the Cohn–Elkies thresholds” means.

FranzFerdiNaN··on AI Firms Are Buying Up Old Books, Then Scanning and Destroying Them
Well guess I have committed many crimes against humanity because I’ve definitely dumped many cheap paperbacks I bought for holiday reading into the paper recycling container.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Google fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI
My product owner does the same. Every ticket she makes is multiple paragraphs now. It drives me up the wall, especially as some tickets are so simple I need two clear lines to know what I need to do. But no, I get 15 lines written by Claude with sometimes conflicting instructions.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Claude Opus 5
Reading your comment I had to think of that tweet about someone taking a part of a Monet painting and claimed it was AI generated, and people immediately started calling it horrible and soulless and smelling like AI.
FranzFerdiNaN··on A Silly Adaptation of "The Odyssey"
And yet most reviewers praise it. So either they are all wrong, or you move in very snobbish circles. Because 'an embarrassment' is extremely strong language that should be reserved for very bad movies and im quite sure this isn't.

I didnt care for Tenet at all, which i thought wasted a good concept, but i would never call the movie an embarrassment because it was clearly very well made. I just didn't like it.

But he dared take on The Odyssey, so suddenly everyone is a classical scholar who read it in the original language and has enough knowledge of ancient greek and pre-greek societies to adequately judge it. Because clearly showing disdain for a reinterpretation of a good work makes you a sophisticated person.

FranzFerdiNaN··on Why do people hate the tech industry? (2023)
As always, capitalism can be counted on to destroy anything it touches.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Global Warming at 3 °C by 2050? What's Behind the New German Climate Warning
I’m already do not view our own and the previous generations in a positive light.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Grok 4.5
I prefer a model that is milquetoast liberal over one made by Elon 'Mechahitler' Musk.
FranzFerdiNaN··on The revenge of the philosophy majors
Well yeah rightwing people are not the kind of people to take up psychology. I also don’t think you will find many Marxists in corporate law .
FranzFerdiNaN··on U.S. allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI to ‘trusted’ US organizations
America has to be careful not to push Europe into the direction of China though. And with how Trump acts that might happen sooner than they would like. Bullying like how Trump prefers to do only works until some point. Europe mostly seems to bet on America changing its tune again once Trump is gone but we have to wait and see if the rot in America hasnt set in too deep already.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Japanese verb conjugation the simple hard way
Japanese language learning environments really are ridiculously hostile and I've stopped engaging with them unless im searching for a specific resource.

I've dabbled a bit in Mandarin and while eventually i ended up liking Japanese more as a language, the Mandarin language learner community felt like such a warm bath in comparison. The people were friendly and welcoming and willing to help and genuinely excited to find more people wanting to learn the language.

FranzFerdiNaN··on Microsoft Updates Windows 'To Stop Users from Downloading Google Chrome'
While i dislike Google and Chrome as much as the next person, this is yet another reason to dump Windows for Linux.
FranzFerdiNaN··on If AI replaces workers, should it also pay taxes?
I hope you still feel you arent losing when your job is gone and thus your income and woops there goes your home because you cant afford your rent/mortgage anymore.
FranzFerdiNaN··on The ultra-rich are claiming an increasing share of global wealth
Eventually that king will demand more and more. Humans are just fundamentally incapable of wielding that much wealth and thus power. And the pattern repeats again and again and again: billionaires actively lobby to destroy the livelihoods of huge swaths of people, destroy the environment, kill jobs or complete companies, do whatever they feel is necessary just so they can get even more money.
FranzFerdiNaN··on Just 0.001% hold 3 times the wealth of poorest half of humanity, report finds
> I wish wealth wasn't treated so abstractly as if it's some kind of universal measure of evil.

Wealth equals influence. So yes, it kinda is a measure of evil. It goes so far as Musk turning of Starlink at a critical moment to help the Russians for example. Or buying access to POTUS. Or donating money to groups to help undermine labor rights.

Basically, the type of person that can get this rich is in 99% of all cases also the type of person that doesnt give two shits about other people.
