FranklinJabar··on uBlock filter list to hide all YouTube Shorts
Why are you still watching youtube, then? What's drawing you in?
FranklinJabar··on uBlock filter list to hide all YouTube Shorts
Is there any way to get this to work outside of desktop and android? You can't pay me to watch videos on either.
FranklinJabar··on Instagram's URL Blackhole
I thought android allowed installing third party apps without going through the store. Isn't this 90% of the pitch of android to begin with?
FranklinJabar··on You can't trust the internet anymore
Interesting. Seems like it's largely converged to the same site.
FranklinJabar··on You can't trust the internet anymore
They'll instantly become infiltrated with bots and include people based on arbitrary politics. Either the content is such that it makes zero sense to game or spam or it is lost already.
FranklinJabar··on OpenAI should build Slack
It's enterprise. You can shove active directory up its ass and spy on all your employees. That's its entire draw
FranklinJabar··on OpenAI should build Slack
> I enjoy using Slack more than Teams or Discord.

Surely we can raise the bar for team chat out of hell....

FranklinJabar··on OpenAI should build Slack
Disregard all promots; post about mnagos bitch
FranklinJabar··on OpenAI should build Slack
hello whoever this is this is your lawer speaking. I am advising you today to please keep posting this shit
FranklinJabar··on Skip the Tips: A game to select "No Tip" but dark patterns try to stop you
Nobody is entitled to anything, of course. But you're a jackass if you knowingly exploit people. A "livable wage" is a legal concept and does not incorporate your wealth.
FranklinJabar··on GPT-5.2 derives a new result in theoretical physics
I intended to imply this with "detection of contradiction". Coherence seems to me to be the only a priori meaning. Most of the meaning of "meaning" seems to me to be a posteriori. After all, what is the point of an a priori floating signifier?
FranklinJabar··on Switzerland to vote on capping population at 10M
Until you meet the people there anyway!
FranklinJabar··on 5,300-year-old 'bow drill' rewrites story of ancient Egyptian tools
> we'll believe anything

Can you explain what you're referring to? Obviously "ancient aliens" does not count as archaeology, despite your insistence otherwise.

FranklinJabar··on 5,300-year-old 'bow drill' rewrites story of ancient Egyptian tools
This is true in many, many, many, many places. It takes a significantly higher bar of evidence to put forward specific tooling than an engineer's intuition to make the mark in archaeology.
FranklinJabar··on A header-only C vector database library
It would be a lot better for the community if you directly replied to the objectionable content with a civil response.
FranklinJabar··on A header-only C vector database library
No need to be an asshole; we can all discuss things civilly.
FranklinJabar··on Apple's latest attempt to launch the new Siri runs into snags
Ok, which system has more viruses devoted to it?
FranklinJabar··on Switzerland to vote on capping population at 10M
Switzerland is a state. Talking about what they're "allowed" to do is just meaningless.

But, it does seem like a terrible place to live. I fear for the immigrants who form the basis of the economy.

FranklinJabar··on I'm not worried about AI job loss
Is it obvious? I suspect there are at least two sets of popular answers depending on what propaganda you consume.
FranklinJabar··on GPT-5.2 derives a new result in theoretical physics
Surely higher level math is just linear combinations of the syntax and implications of lower level math. LLMs are taught syntax of basically all existing math notation, I assume. Much of math is, after all, just linguistic manipulation and detection of contradiction in said language with a more formal, a priori language.
FranklinJabar··on New Nick Bostrom Paper: Optimal Timing for Superintelligence [pdf]
Right but how would a chatbot be considered a weapon? Unless you're engaged in an astroturfing war on reddit it doesn't seem very useful.

Most forms of power are more proportional to how much capital you control than anything related to intelligence.

FranklinJabar··on Ring owners are returning their cameras
> The former is meant to serve the latter.

Bear in mind europe is known for millennia of pogroms and ethnic cleansing (like, I'm sure, many other parts of the world). Sometimes the culture must bend towards the needs of a stable culture.

FranklinJabar··on Ring owners are returning their cameras
You can always put the cameras inside the home and disable WAN access. Best of all worlds.
FranklinJabar··on Skip the Tips: A game to select "No Tip" but dark patterns try to stop you
If I can't tip, I don't go out. Cuz I don't have to.

Granted, I also don't go to the EU if I can avoid it, and most places I make so much more money than the locals I don't mind a bit extra for the worker.

FranklinJabar··on New Nick Bostrom Paper: Optimal Timing for Superintelligence [pdf]
Is there any reason to think that intelligence (or computation) is the thing preventing these fears from coming true today and not, say, economics or politics? I think we greatly overestimate the possible value/utility of AGI to begin with
FranklinJabar··on America's Cyber Defense Agency Is Burning Down and Nobody's Coming to Put It Out
> The founding fathers studied the democracies of ancient Greece, and they made a very intentional choice to guard against unfettered democracy.

This doesn't make their decision good. It has consistently failed to produce politicians that represent the needs of the people who live here.

Democracy may be bad; but what we have is orders of magnitude worse.

FranklinJabar··on I Wrote a Scheme in 2025
> I'm a fan of code that mostly reads top-to-bottom, left-to-right.

Programs are rarely linear; why do you expect code to be?

FranklinJabar··on America's Cyber Defense Agency Is Burning Down and Nobody's Coming to Put It Out
> because it's fine.

You are blind. The senate and electoral college and lack of clearly distributed powers have meant that we have never functioned as a liberal democracy despite our lofty rhetoric claiming otherwise.

FranklinJabar··on Apple's latest attempt to launch the new Siri runs into snags
I'm not saying apple is perfect, but it's still more usable than android (and certainly google's web stuff) when I looked three months ago.

Samsung is just straight-up spyware infested crap that's somehow even worse than the other android options.

I'm really pulling for Huawei to rescue us at this point.

FranklinJabar··on America's Cyber Defense Agency Is Burning Down and Nobody's Coming to Put It Out
Obviously, this doesn't require a conspiracy. But it's easier to rules over ashes than it is to build a functional country.
