FragrantRiver··on Go ahead, self-host Postgres
People really love jumping through hoops to avoid spending five dollars.
FragrantRiver··on Google de-indexed Bear Blog and I don't know why
This is not about bears at all. Very disappointed.
FragrantRiver··on Berlin-Paris high-speed rail route symbolizes Europe's thirst for train travel
This is a great direction! I would love to be able to take trains across Europe instead of flying.
FragrantRiver··on Ask HN: What are you working on (September 2024)?
I'm in the early stages of building a headless CMS you can use with your existing website. A few other tools do this, but I noticed that none of them are made for writing, and the editing experience is lacking.

So, instead of having people write content in Google Docs or somewhere else and then copying it into the CMS, I want to create a place where you can enjoy writing and publishing your content.

If this sounds interesting to you, you can try it at https://pmkin.io/ :)

FragrantRiver··on OpenAI to Become For-Profit Company
What is the crime?
FragrantRiver··on Vulnerabilities in the Feeld dating app
They didn't ;)
FragrantRiver··on How did Facebook intercept their competitor's encrypted mobile app traffic?
This wouldn't have happened if Android used Javascript.
FragrantRiver··on New ways we're tackling spammy, low-quality content on Search
Your brownies are probably going to suck. Just because you can't be arsed to read more than two sentences about how to do something doesn't mean others can't.
FragrantRiver··on Why’s that company so big? I could do that in a weekend (2016)
The weekend is coming up. I bet you a $100 that you can't do that.
FragrantRiver··on Meta’s Microservice Architecture [pdf]
Microservices are great, even for small companies. Change my mind.
FragrantRiver··on Ask HN: Am I hurting my programming career by not exploring AI coding tools?
I would compare writing code without Copilot to writing code without Intellisense and autocompletion. Sure you can do it, it's just going to be a lot slower and more work.
FragrantRiver··on Reddark: Website to watch subreddits going dark
Isn't /r/leagueoflegends/ one of the biggest subreddits?
FragrantRiver··on Ask HN: How relevant is cross-browser testing anymore?
You should probably test it on Safari as everything that runs on iOS will run through Safari.
FragrantRiver··on Ask HN: Good resources for architecting simulation games?
This talk is pretty good:

But other than that, it's like building most types of software. It's scary when you start and don't know where to go. Start with a small loop. Implement it. Extend it. Refactor it.

FragrantRiver··on Ask HN: How have you deGoogled your life?
> you will appreciate not having ads targeted to you or your devices constantly connecting to transmit data to servers.

Why would I appreciate seeing more generic ads?

FragrantRiver··on Everything Is Broken: Shipping Rust-Minidump at Mozilla
> I was in a bit of a stupor for the rest of that week, because I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I kept waiting for someone to emerge from the mist and explain that I had somehow bricked Thunderbird or something. But no, it just worked.

I think a lot of us can recognize this feeling when you have deployed big changes. Everything seems to be working fine, but you just don't trust it.

FragrantRiver··on [dead]
The two are not mutually exlusive. It's a good piece of content that at the same time advertises SingeStore. Everybody wins.

And if you are afraid of bias, it's pretty obvious that it will look at the things from a SingleStore perspective as it's on their website.

FragrantRiver··on Second-Guessing the Modern Web
I'm pretty sure I can find more pages that take more than 200 milliseconds to load than ones that are under.
FragrantRiver··on Ask HN: Successful one-person online businesses?
WOW! This exactly what I've been looking for :D And if the pricing calculator is correct, it seems way to cheap :D
