FollowingTheDao··on AI surveillance should be banned while there is still time
This, yes, thank you. Advertising is behavioral modification. They even talk about it out in the open, and if you are unconvinced, hear it from the horse's mouth:

https://brandingstrategyinsider.com/achieving-marketing-obje...

"Your ultimate marketing goal is behavior change — for the simple reason that nothing matters unless it results in a shift in consumer actions"

FollowingTheDao··on AI surveillance should be banned while there is still time
I cannot understate how afraid I am of the use of AI Surveillance. The worst thing is there is nothing you can do about it. It does not matter how private I am online, if the person I am sending things to is not privacy conscious and, say, uses AI to summarize emails, then I am in the AI database. And then there is just the day to day data being scraped, like bank records, etc.

I mean a PARKING LOT in my town is using AI cameras to track and bill people in a parking lot! The people of my town are putting pressure on the parking lot owner to get rid of it but apparently the company is paying him too much money for having it in his lot.

Like the old video says "Don't talk to the Police" [1], but now we have to expand it to say "Don't Do Anything", because everything you do is being fed into a database that can possibly be searched.

FollowingTheDao··on Using your phone on toilet may give you hemorrhoids: study
This is more important than smart phone use, specifically after COVID.

FollowingTheDao··on Using your phone on toilet may give you hemorrhoids: study
This does not mean using you smartphone on the toilet causes hemorrhoids at all. It is more likely that people with constipation know they will be in the bathroom longer so they bring their smartphones, and constipation IS the leading cause of hemorrhoids. Correlation is not causation.

Another trash conclusion from a trash study.

FollowingTheDao··on We already live in social credit, we just don't call it that
The only difference in the United States is that you have a better chance of being the head authoritarian, and by that I mean a business owner.

We have had a pretend democracy in the US for the last 60 years.

FollowingTheDao··on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own
I hope people can see what I am saying here, but this is just what the Affordable Health Care Act was in the United States. The government forced up to buy health insurance from private companies, and no one saw a problem with that.

So having health care was dependent on a private third party.

FollowingTheDao··on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own
Yes, I am feeling like technology is being used as a authoritarian trap.

This is my exact feeling. Louis Rossman talks so much about this (YouTube). I think the only secure device now is a dumb phone.

I am really learing to live life without the internet anymore. Between the lock in, the privacy risks, and just the hassle, it is easier to act like I am living back in the 1990's and just get used to the "inconvenience" of life without a smartphone. I can leave my smartphone in a faraday bag and just pull it out when I need it, or just wait to be in wifi. (I am homeless living in a minivan so this makes it much harder for me.)

I just do not know how much this will effect GrapheneOS or I would get a Pixel 9a. It seems like it will not, at least for the older phones.

At least we still have linux (for now).

But more and more computer technology is looking like a trap.

If anyone has any recommendations for a dumb phone that will work with AT&T please let me know.

FollowingTheDao··on Best practices for dealing with human waste in the great outdoors
It is not the pooping that is the problem, it is the density of human pooping that is the problem. All they are talking about in the article are the national parks, and yes, this is a problem in the parks. Human feces is no more or less dangerous than animal feces.
FollowingTheDao··on Best practices for dealing with human waste in the great outdoors
It is far from a certain that we are apex predators since we can survive on a largely herbivore diet.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apex_predator#Human_trophic_le...

And "our shit contains the condensed toxins from all of the lower rungs on the food chain." lacks any credibility unless you can provide a link I have never seen.

These control freaks will not control me. Banking on GrapheneOS? The web app works fine.

More and more people are starting to see how you really own nothing anymore.

You win! (Your observation was why I posted the article.)

As an amateur private researcher I am tired of these studies and they should be ended and all health studies performed by publicly funded projects.

I agree. In fact, I think the government should own all utilities like they do in more socialist countries. It gets rid of price gouging, and the stabilizes the market in things that are necessary for human life.

The natural resources of the country should belong to all of us. Not just a select few.

FollowingTheDao··on Cisco announces mass layoffs just after soaring revenue report
That always meant mass. Message just means a large group. It doesn’t specify the amount.

221 positions across its Milpitas and San Francisco offices. WARN documents are generally required by the state in the event of mass layoffs.

And this might be important if you were looking for a job as a software engineer in the area.

“The most cuts, affecting 157 jobs, largely in software engineering roles, were at Cisco’s Milpitas office”

“I don’t want to get rid of a bunch of people right now. I don’t want to get rid of engineers,” Robbins said. “I just want our engineers we have today to innovate faster and be more productive and that gives us a competitive advantage.” Robbins said if AI keeps advancing at Cisco, the company could possibly hire fewer employees. Cisco did not respond to SFGATE’s request for comment on the latest round of layoffs.

Oh, I don’t think it’s going to work at all. For some reason, he doesn’t think it’s gonna raise inflation enough to matter.
FollowingTheDao··on Margin debt surges to record high
Trump was talking about free trade in the 80s, not in increasing tarrifs, which is not free trade. In fact, it’s the complete opposite.

FollowingTheDao··on Margin debt surges to record high
And what was happening in the 80s?

Inflation.

And what’s happening now?

FollowingTheDao··on Margin debt surges to record high
The banks and corporations have been getting the "magic money" since 1971. The moment we give it directly to the people evryone is concerned about inflation. This mindset is sad.

Do you know that banks in the last 15 years have been getting free money and then lending to people at rates from 5 to 29%? Does that not make you mad?

> Gold? Dead asset

What? Gold is at a record high, and with inflation it will only go higher.

https://www.macrotrends.net/1333/historical-gold-prices-100-...

FollowingTheDao··on Margin debt surges to record high
It is not that the markets are tricky. Predicting what the Fed will do with interest rates is tricky. By lowering rates they feed more money into the market. Take a look at the last 15 years and you will realize the only thing that gave us a minor recession was COVID, adn that was becasue intrest rates were zero.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FEDFUNDS

But they can't do this for much longer, inflation is the first sign, which is why Trump is raising tariffs.

You can see Bond prices going up. Trumps tarrifs are aimed and lowering T Bill rates:

FollowingTheDao··on Margin debt surges to record high
You would have to look at that graph starting before 1971 when Nixon took us off the gold standard. when he did that it allowed the US to boroow more money based on nothing. The myth is that "More money has been invested in the market over time", when in fact more debt has been invested in the market.
FollowingTheDao··on Margin debt surges to record high
Is anyone here wondering like me why we did not have a recession in 2021?

Was it the COVID checks they sent out? Might be a good thing to do in the next recession...

But this current state of margin debt, I do not like at all. That with the reduction of new home construction.

FollowingTheDao··on Hypoxia reduces neurodegeneration and movement disorder in Parkinson's disease
What hypoxia does is lower brain oxygen. So why is this important in Parkinson's? Oxygen is a coezyme for an enzyme called MAOB, which gets rid of dopamine and produces H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxiode). It is well know thatpeople with Parkinson's have polymorphisms in MAOB that put them at risk.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6074924/

Their enzyme activity is high, and gets higher as they age. So getting rid of oxygen (hypoxia) slows down the MAOB enzyme, reducing H2O2 production, and slowing Parkinson's. Hypoxia also reduces DNA methylation (HYPOmethylation) which is even more important (more later).

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7016890/

Hydrogen Peroxide is the real enemy in Parkinson's since it is responsible for the destruction of the Dopamine neurons.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7675214/

How does Levodopa fit in with all of this? Levodopa makes Dopamine via an enzyme called DDC. DDC uses vitamin B6 as a cofactor. Giving people Levodopa lowers B6

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35569990/

which increases homocysteine and DNA methylation (HYPERmethylation. HYPOmethylation of DNA is linked to Parkinson's.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6557551/

And they know that Hypomethylation of the alpha-synuclein (SNCA) gene is the cause of Parkinson's.

Increase DNA Methylation and you decrease Parkinson's. One way to do that is to get more zinc becasue it increases DNMT gene activity (methylation) and low zinc is linked to Parkinson's.
