Flankk··on Ask HN: Can I force Big Email Company to not mark my emails as spam?
It's kind of a pointless question when you haven't provided any details. Are you self hosting? If not, which provider? Are you using an email delivery service? Have you correctly configured DKIM and SPF?

To answer your question, no you cannot force them to do anything. Either fix it yourself or hire someone who can fix it for you.

Flankk··on Twitter CMO: Elon Musk has “questionable ethics”, expects mass exodus
Sour grapes. These princesses won't be able to hamper growth with their poor leadership any longer. Find a job ruining another company. Twitter is about to go to the moon. When the millions of bot accounts are deleted MSM will call it an exodus.
Flankk··on Looking to build a group of like-minded founders for mutual success
Make sure none of the companies joining the group are competitors. That can be deemed anti-competitive or even a cartel. There are some discord servers but they're a waste of time in my experience.
Flankk··on Twitter’s top lawyer reassures staff, cries during meeting about Musk takeover
If I was wrong you wouldn't have to insult me.
Flankk··on Twitter’s top lawyer reassures staff, cries during meeting about Musk takeover
Crying because the person taking over is pushing for complete freedom of speech. That tells you everything you need to know about these people. You are the author and each tweet is a paragraph in your own digital book. At what point did book burning become an accepted practice?
Flankk··on Start with who, not why
It is an excellent book, not just a TEDx talk. The concept comes from the "five whys" developed by Sakichi Toyoda at Toyota. Asking "why" five times typically reveals the root cause of a problem. If a business does not have a purpose, it won't exist for very long. It makes sense to explicitly define the purpose because implicit definitions lead to fuzzy logic.
Flankk··on Do the same mechanisms that create complex life also create complex technology?
> If technology x is replaced by a superior technology y, then technology x naturally goes “extinct.”

That is a gross simplification. Monopolies have a perverse incentive to crush superior technology that might otherwise supplant them. The electric car is just one example. Superior technology does not automatically achieve widespread adoption. If it were that easy nobody would need advice or venture capital.

Flankk··on Evolution is not a tree of life but a fuzzy network
Mutation means the same thing now as it did back then. What has changed is that we now understand how it works. The concept of punctuated equilibrium was introduced in 1972. It is the leading theory based on present understanding. I'm not sure what you mean by "less defensible."
Flankk··on Evolution is not a tree of life but a fuzzy network
Darwin believed that each successive generation of a species had increasing mutations leading to a gradual divergence. Another school of thought believes that a species remains at equilibrium until some environmental stressor activates a rapid divergence. If this "punctuated equilibrium" is true, climate change will give rise to many new species, as would all mass extinctions.
Flankk··on 'Great Resignation': Over 70% of workers regret quitting their jobs
> 72% of American workers said they too have experienced starting a new job and realizing ... that the position or company was very different from what they were led to believe.[1]

That is not the same thing as regret. Poor editorialization.

Flankk··on Musk announces funding secured for Twitter buy
They have about $5 billion in annual revenue. Most years they lose money, hence the poor stock performance. Welcome to silicon valley.
Flankk··on California tech billionaire launches Senate campaign to take on Tesla
I was initially on Tesla's side of this debacle. Innovation is good and Tesla is definitely innovating. Over time it's becoming more clear that Elon pushes for engineering marvels to happen on an unrealistic timeline. I suppose it's a net positive as the team is driven to fulfil their potential. If they could start doing that without driving over pedestrians it would be even better.
Flankk··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
It's the main factor for a developer, actually. We're talking about Apple so it makes sense to discuss their products. It doesn't make sense to talk about Microsoft products.
Flankk··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
That's a bit of a ridiculous argument. Xcode is not only closed source, it is required for publishing to the App Store. You can't modify the hardware or the software. It's a virtual prison.
Flankk··on Framework Laptop Mainboard
I mean, you can build your own with any Mini-ITX motherboard. The only thing is you don't have the tight integration of soldered RAM, the quality slave-assembled parts, and the two years of faster speed before lowering performance for power consumption reasons.
Flankk··on How much time do you spend on your phone each day?
The problem isn't your phone. The problem is you are a monkey that has been given a window into a world with an endless supply of the things that primates like. I would advise meditating for 20 minutes every day. It won't solve your problem but it will help you control it.
Flankk··on Elon Musk - A future worth getting excited about
Elon so long as the AI doesn't take it over and uh- uh- murder us in our sleep or something Musk.
Flankk··on I brought my childhood imaginary friend back to life using A.I
Between this bizarre anecdote and the others out there, I'm starting to think AI is a bad idea. Remember the news that GPT-3 was telling patients to kill themselves?
Flankk··on ‘Electric’ chopsticks that make food seem more salty
Check out The Salt Fix: Why the Experts Got It All Wrong--and How Eating More Might Save Your Life. I haven't read it yet but it's on my list.
Flankk··on Six companies control 90% of what you read, watch, and hear
The two buckets I'd put people in are those who regurgitate mainstream news and those who ignore it completely. In other words, the brainwashed and the braindead. People who read books have become outliers. Social media has destroyed people's attention span.
Flankk··on Superintelligence Is Impossible
No, because we're not a bacteria of sorts. Humans have high relative, intrinsic, and potential value. We're not at odds with the machine, we created it. It would look at you like a cute dog. The machine would likely offer you a job dusting the mainframe and swapping out old hard drives.
Flankk··on Superintelligence Is Impossible
I'd argue AGI would not seek war because violence is the dumbest solution to any given problem. It is not likely that a machine of high intelligence would give you valuable information for free. It might lock away its memory using an encryption scheme it developed itself. So the singularity might just result in the world's most expensive randsomware bot.
Flankk··on Superintelligence Is Impossible
This article will age like milk. The No Free Lunch argument is nonsense. The analogy of designing a super-organism that has higher fitness in every environment is absurd. That is exactly what human beings are. We completely dominate on Earth and there are even a few of us in space. That is chiefly due to intelligence. I'm not sure a counter argument is necessary since the author basically refuted his own point. AGI is no more than 20 years away.
Flankk··on Richard Stallman – The state of the Free Software movement
He is fighting an unwinnable war, to be sure. Most people will never be technically savvy enough to care about these issues. Apple will probably start soldering their cases shut. Sadly I don't think it makes much difference what Stallman thinks, even though I think he is mostly right.
Flankk··on Evidence that life flashes before the eyes upon death
It is the correct model. You can learn more about it here:

Flankk··on Scientists are worried about the W Boson: 'Something is amiss'
That's right, observations were made that do not fit with our current understanding of physics (equations). That means our understanding is wrong. So instead of assuming the equations are wrong physicists invented an invisible type of matter. That is not science. Dark matter is nothing more than modern day aether.
Flankk··on Evidence that life flashes before the eyes upon death
The probability of a neutral gene becoming fixed is extremely low. It requires a mutation to take a random walk from zero to gene pool saturation. Most neutral traits disappear due to genetic drift, not due to selection pressure. That said, there is no evidence that this is fixed/durable.
Flankk··on Ask HN: Finally ready to share my personal work, how to manage expectations?
FWIW I never posted on Show HN because I know what assholes people are here. The app is going strong anyways so nothing of value was lost.
Flankk··on Scientists are worried about the W Boson: 'Something is amiss'
I was wondering the same thing. Dark matter has never been observed. Its existence is based entirely on equations.
Flankk··on Elementary Audio: a modern platform for writing high performance audio software
That's great on paper but how do I actually use it? If I want to play back a wavetable you have el.table() but it's missing the oversampling and decimation tools required for antialiasing. The el.lowpass() is a biquad which is not suited well for modulation. How can this compete with JUCE when the documentation and features are so sparse?
