FiveSquared··on Ask HN: What books changed the way you think about almost everything?
For me, it’s How to Lie With Statitics. It opened my eyes to how much lies are in numbers. Also, another good one is 1984. It really made me think about my online life depending so much on Google.
FiveSquared··on NY Insurers Can Evaluate Social Media Use If They Can Prove Why It’s Needed
However, it’s a shame that it happenes with frighting regularly in 2019! I probably won’t involve me but it’s a outrage.
FiveSquared··on U.S. Changes Visa Process for High-Skilled Workers
Jim Crow laws, blackballing, and redlining. You ant allowed to work in certain jobs, if you speak out (see Kapernick), no job for you! And you can’t even live within reasonable distance of work!
FiveSquared··on Skirting U.S. sanctions, Europeans launch trade mechanism for Iran
Truth. I like how the young dems are doing in terms of anti-war and pro-privacy stance.
FiveSquared··on Skirting U.S. sanctions, Europeans launch trade mechanism for Iran
Facebook. That’s why. People protest online instead of offline.
FiveSquared··on A “gold standard” study finds deleting Facebook is great for your mental health
And the comments. How to not worry in one paragraph. If you can’t control, don’t worry. If you can, do something! Also, imagine if you are blind and walk around for 5 minutes with your eyes closed. Imagine if you are permanently blind. How will it be like to live as that forever! Open your eyes. You have the power of sight! More than you will ever need to survive! Edit: Why the downvotes?
FiveSquared··on NY Insurers Can Evaluate Social Media Use If They Can Prove Why It’s Needed
True, I never show my real name in any public platform unless it's my "official" one, which is whitewashed. I go through pseudonymous accounts every 2 years for my privacy. We already do have social credit, it's called your credit score. Self-deception is a powerful force. Everybody rise up to the polls! Oh wait, it's both sides that are abetting this crap. Just vote with the closest to freedom (including a social safety net) and don't worry, cause you can't control it.

Then spying, tracking, censorship of "offensive" or "unpatriotic" words depending on your political side for little gain of the little people. Of course, the state won't do anything to actually reduce mass shooting, they profit of fear and hate. History doesn't repeat, it is remixed.
FiveSquared··on Prisons Are Quietly Building Databases of Incarcerated People’s Voice Prints
Social Security, dark web crackers, and crappy online forgotten passwords websites want to know your location. I jest. But seriously, DOB is extremely valuable, which is why I never use my real one online except for government stuff like that.
FiveSquared··on Why isn't the internet more fun and weird?
Thank god youtube got rid of that. One day you would browse a dark page, and boom! Searing white at 3AM! But it’s nostalgic.
FiveSquared··on Best Buy’s Secrets for Thriving in the Amazon Age (2017)
Oh sorry, I just wanted to inform people. I will try better next time!

FiveSquared··on Netflix Flexes
Yep, besides, why not just watch the OG Star Trek reruns (if they still do that, I don’t really follow Star Trek anymore) or pirate if the app is so crappy? And OTA.
FiveSquared··on Netflix Flexes
But what attracts people to the Skinner box games is the fact that they are Skinner box games. coughClash of Clanscough
FiveSquared··on A Child’s Puzzle Has Helped Unlock the Secrets of Magnetism
This does not need to be in all caps, but good submission regardless.

Clickbait aside, this guide is really solid. Though I will warn newbies that it will take YEARS of 1 hour practice a day (in the editor and tutorial), that you will have to build stuff (not tutorials), that it isn’t easy money, and that language doesn’t matter if you pick the top 10. Languages are tools, so pick the best for what you wanna do and do it! You will have to build stuff at one point outside of websites with an blank screen, so get to it right now. Also, programming requires focus, calm manner, patience, and most of all, time. You can get started rn, so do it for at least 30 minutes and build stuff!

Edit: Bonus points if you know how to Google properly (don’t say the PC is not working, say bootloop issue Windows 10 October update), know that the community can be jerks, now how to navigate PowerShell/UNIX terminal (UNiX > PowerShell though powershell is decent), and here’s a bunch of free coding books.

FiveSquared··on Facebook: The Normalization of What Should Never Have Been Accepted as Normal
Listen, FaceBook monetizes social interaction. It is completely normal and good to socialize, but Facebook is like someon read your mail and sold it. Oh wait, that’s GMail. My point is that they montitize and manipulate and obfuscate the real truth of their platforms.
FiveSquared··on The steam has gone out of globalisation
True, but at least, it still increase the global poor’s money. Which I think makes it worth it. See China.
FiveSquared··on We value your privacy now, but maybe not later
Well education is a lost cause due to the masses being overworked/ overstressed / overwhelmed/undereducated /etc. I have seen people who write down their password in paper and carry them around. If people can’t remover secure passwords, how are they gonna protect their privacy?
FiveSquared··on We value your privacy now, but maybe not later

And the lack of clarity. The People You May Know things on FB is due to contacts being shared, which is pressed into the user. https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/2017/07/30/why...

FiveSquared··on Facebook Let Kids Rack Up Charges on Parents' Credit Cards
Well sports betting has been around forever, but dark patterns and intentional deception in mobile games leads to children being manipulated. Not consenting adults, CHILDREN.

FiveSquared··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free
Truth, food deserts will grow without the car. To see what it is like, go visit your local ghetto and rural area.
FiveSquared··on Oslo made its city center basically car-free

However, who determines what is a conspaircy? The government might be deciding that Iraq has WMDs and any evidence to the contrary is a conspiracy. While some measures are needed to be taken, who decides what is? No one is truly impartial. The censorship (while required due to how much crap is in YouTube) might devolve to 1984 without comple transparency, which we all know google isn’t providing.
