I haven't followed it that closely in recent years, but during the great housing bubble (and its collapse) CR & Tanta were voices of sanity and clarity in the crazy times.
I've been using trackballs since the early 1980s (that was a custome-built thing attached to a DG Nova, but still). Can't go back to a regular mouse. But yeah, I don't see what this does that my current trackballs don't do, or at least that I would ever use. And it looks really awkward to use. I also don't really care that much about the half-second it takes to move my hand. I don't touch-type or type nonstop. So practically that means nothing to me.
For ebook production, you need to use xhtml, the epub standard is defined that way. And it is indeed useful to be able to treat them as xml files and use xslt and xquery, etc. with them.
Doesn’t Spotify already have shareable playlists? it seems like the app would have more value if it could work cross platform. Most of the discussion about Spotify I see online is about how to get away from it, not so much how to use it more.
Those guys announced which side they were on on inauguration day, and let [redacted] line up them like subservient vassals. They’re not afraid of Musk, they’re aligned with him.
"The central bank has long abused its power in ways that benefit the financial sector at the expense of everyone else."
[redacted] would like the Fed to abuse its power to benefit himself at the expense of everyone else. He does not 'almost' have a point, since none of the real problems of the Fed, as outlined in the article, are of his concern. He does not care about doing anything about those issues at all.
If they really want the old-school analog experience, you need a turntable and a cassette recorder so you can make mix tapes for your friends. We didn't have 'playlists', we had mix tapes. Also, to have in the car for road trips. Also, I must go and yell at that cloud now. Excuse me.
Cant read (paywall), but we just went through apartment hunting with my mother, who is selling her house. What we saw is that the rental market here is pretty soft--nice apartments in good locations that aren't egregiously overpriced are going fast, but anything not grade A choice is languishing. The research budget cuts, hiring freezes, drops in arrivals from international students, etc, are clearly taking a toll. The people who would be coming in to take those apartments are not coming in. So now: buying is way more expensive than renting. We saw a condo for rent right next door to a condo for sale--nearly identical units--and the cost to own was probably double the cost to rent.
“ Children, especially those who live in poor and rural areas, would be at greater risk for severe disease and death if the U.S. were to drop shots from its schedule,”
the ladder is being withdrawn for everyone, everywhere. Some will be cut off by AI, some by thugs in ski masks. The modern aristocracy believe they have built an economic perpetual motion machine that can function without the ‘surplus population,’ who will be encouraged to politely starve to death.
it’s not clear from the article—does this mean that if someone edits a photo in your thread, the edited version appears in your thread, as if you had posted it? That would be pretty evil. Also, artists are still on xitter?
Amazon adopted epub several years ago. Publishers provide files to them as plain epub files. What they sell is an epub file in a proprietary wrapper. The wrapper exists, in part, to provide the DRM. If they remove the DRM, they can remove the wrapper and give you a plan epub file.
It’s pretty unusual for Amazon to put any other entity’s interest ahead of it’s own, so they can be presumed to have some business reason for it, like the number of people who’ve decided not to buy from them any more.
It's not much of a game. You play as Gianni Infantino, you sit at a desk while representatives of oppressive regimes hand you envelopes of cash to help whitewash their country's human rights abuses.
