Findeton··on Are there limits to economic growth?
Socialism is the limit. As long as you have it you won't have growth.
Findeton··on Launch HN: Lifecast (YC W22) – 3D video for VR
200% agree.
Findeton··on Launch HN: Lifecast (YC W22) – 3D video for VR
That's very cool, as I mentioned in another comment I also tried doing something similar!

Ok so I've tried doing some version of this that is a bit more advanced [0] but I gave up because I'm not a ML expert. Have you thought about creating/projecting video versions of lightfields? Like Google's Deepview [1]. I'd love for DeepView Video kind of tech to be comoditized.

Findeton··on Ruby on Rails Creator Capitulates on Bitcoin
Unfortunately he’s right, we need crypto because we can’t trust government. We never should have.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Is the Tech Bubble Crashing?
I don't know. Average PER should be around 15. Netflix is at PER 36 and there are doubts about the sustainability of their future growth. Amazon is at PER 56, and they do depend on margins which will be impacted by inflation.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Is the Tech Bubble Crashing?
Taking into consideration R&D, Facebook/Meta is at around PER 15. If you don't do that, it's PER 21, which is high but not crazy high. From the rest of the FAANG, maybe Google is not too overpriced. The rest are severely overpriced.

I'd rather own an OIL company at 3x FCF than Netflix or anything like that.

Findeton··on Why Galesburg has no money
Don't people think it's just crazy having to pay the overlords a wealth tax? One thing is to pay for capital gains or new income, but you already paid taxes when you bought the house/property.
Findeton··on Web3 is centralized
Sure but have you looked into the technology?
Findeton··on Web3 is centralized
I recommend looking into BSV, as you can store data on-chain for cents, but it looks like any comment mentioning it will get automatically moderated for some reason.
Findeton··on Web3 is centralized
Also you can use BSV (Bitcoin Satoshi Vision) to store the whole images on-chain, literally for cents on the dollar. And yes, BSV also has smart contracts, just like the original Bitcoin did. 53% of all transactions happen in BSV, more than Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP together: https://bitinfocharts.com/cryptocurrency-charts.html
Findeton··on macOS Setup after 15 Years of Linux
They can pry my Linux from my dead cold hands. I want to be the master of my computer, as it is an extension of myself. I'll thus use an open source OS.
Findeton··on I Lost My Past (2017)
I mention it because at the end of his blogpost he says: "there will be no wars in Europe in my lifetime, and imperialism has been defeated. "

I'll also point out that:

- The imperialistic part of the USA is the socialist part of USA (which does exist and gets larger every day).

- Empires are not economically profitable as a whole, only a few people profit.

Findeton··on I Lost My Past (2017)
Well the Soviet Union was imperialism, wasn't it?
Findeton··on Show HN: I made a photo sharing myspace clone
Cool! great work.
Findeton··on Cryptocurrency loan platform implodes in $130M hack
An Oracle is a way to tell the blockchain about external data like the price of something in the general markets. As I understand, a flash loan is a loan that is both created and paid in the same blockchain transaction (thus if it can't be paid it won't be included in the transaction), and that the exploit here was to both modify the price given by the oracle twice (up and down) and have a flash loan in the middle, all in the same transaction.

I hope I'm not adding to the confusion because I am not an expert.

Findeton··on The wealthiest 10% of Americans own a record 89% of all U.S. stocks
Good for them. I'm not envious.
Findeton··on I write code 100 hours/week, here's why I probably won't stop
Bad link, an unnecessary I at the end of the link.
Findeton··on Ask HN: High Inflation Investment Strategies?
I bought into Uranium companies earlier this year (main position is Bannerman, bought at $0.1, now at $0.4). Also the oil sector (IPCO for example). For agriculture I have Verde Agritech.
Findeton··on World food prices hit 10-year peak – FAO
And there was high inflation since they started the QE. At least in the financial markets. It might not count for the government's inflation metrics but I don't think those make sense.
Findeton··on [dead]
Oh it's sooo bad Joe Rogan didn't explain Marxism the way Freddie wants to.
Findeton··on Ask HN: What are your non-tech hobbies?
Investing. Uranium and precious metals equities. 80% uranium.
Findeton··on Inequality, Interest Rates, Aging, and the Role of Central Banks
Income inequality is not the problem. Indeed everyone's purchasing power was way lower in the past and still people saved money. People save less money now, and that's one of the problems. Saving money does mean making the sacrifice of not spending it today, perhaps not even in the future. The other problem is called Central Banks. Central Banks need and force low interests, but then gov. debt is not attractive anymore (except for banks, which buy them with money freshly printed by the FED) and people chase higher returns in the general market. So investors end up fishing in equities, creating a bubble. The problem is that companies that consume a lot of physical resources, like Tesla, are pumped... while companies that dig those resources from the ground are not. In the end this increases scarcity and raw materials become more costly. This ends up driving prices up across the whole economy, it's inflation. Created by Central Banks. But of course when it happens many people will blame the free market.
Findeton··on You've got $30B to spend and a climate crisis. Nuclear or solar?
Fission energy all the way.
Findeton··on PinePhone – Open Source Smart Phone Supported by Major Linux Phone Projects
Honestly I'm not looking for an amazing phone, just a less shitty one. I'll probably buy a PinePhone to tinker with it and support the idea, but I don't expect it to be really usable. I hope in the coming years they'll get a usable/stable version. Of course I don't expect a great camera/software or anything like that.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Side project demo day partner(s)?
That's a cool idea, but I don't think I can present much progress in just 2 weeks.
Findeton··on Ask HN: How do you invest in yourself?
I buy uranium developer/producer miners and wait for the profit.
Findeton··on Daily Sales Email
Tried to sign up, confirmation email didn't arrive.
Findeton··on What emerging market are you most excited about?
Uranium is emerging if you want to call it that.
Findeton··on Ask HN: What’s the Next Big Thing?
Prices in the spot market are well below the cost of production, it's been an industry in liquidation... but nuclear power plants need to keep running. Because it's been an industry in liquidation, production is going to be way less than expected consumption. On top of that consumers are just not price sensitive, as uranium is quite a small part of running a nuclear power plant. And adding more mines takes years, if not decades. Prices will rise, last time it went from $15 to $140 for uranium itself, and some mining companies did more than a 100x.
