Fauntleroy··on The majority of traffic from X may have been fake during the Super Bowl
For people into sex bots and crypto scams it's a massive improvement, in fact.
Fauntleroy··on Nanoplastics in water – surprisingly large amounts discovered and its not good
Are there any consumer devices that are capable of filtering out any amount of micro or nano plastics? I already avoid plastic bottles as much as I reasonably can, and I'd like to make sure my tap water is as not terrible as possible.
Fauntleroy··on "Fake Chinese income" mortgages fuel Toronto real estate bubble: HSBC bank leaks
Or if we don't want to watch it collapse during ours.
Fauntleroy··on "Fake Chinese income" mortgages fuel Toronto real estate bubble: HSBC bank leaks
There's a little too much "housing is way too incredibly expensive for the citizens of the country" going on here for us to really care about "fairness of the open market"
Fauntleroy··on Text-Guided Image Editing Based on Post Score for Gaining Social Media Attention
This website hijacks browser history and should be avoided.
Fauntleroy··on Cannabis use linked to anxiety diagnoses, worsened anxiety disorders
I wouldn't say it's this simple—there are lots of different strains out there with wildly different effects due to the cannabinoids they contain. Furthermore, every person's own endocannabinoid system is different, and reacts differently to cannabinoids. For one person, a strain might make them feel relaxed and happy—for another, the same strain might make them simply fall asleep (or extremely anxious, for instance).

There's also the very common issue of people new to cannabis using far, far too much—which generally results in a feeling of intense anxiety. Anyone who hasn't had any cannabis before should be extremely careful and use as little as possible.

Finally, regular users who have developed a tolerance for certain cannabinoids may find it difficult to relax without them. Anyone regularly using a substance like cannabis should be on the lookout for this, and change their behavior accordingly.

Fauntleroy··on I don't want anything your AI generates
ok
Fauntleroy··on Apple Vision Pro review
The entire screen sharing setup they demo'd in the original Vision Pro demo reels always made me laugh. They've had years to get Sidecar right, and have failed miserably every time. How am I going to believe that they'll get wireless display transmission to work perfectly for this thing?
Fauntleroy··on Train robbery for Amazon packages? More common than you think
It would reduce crime, not eliminate it. Important distinction.
Fauntleroy··on Is A.I. The Death of I.P.?
This is not a solid argument because it suggests every single social contract involved in human society is not worthwhile, important, or "real".
Fauntleroy··on The young people sifting through the internet's worst horrors
Welcome to a society run by the shareholder system
Fauntleroy··on Ask HN: Is Kagi Search Down?
Down for me in the US West. This really can't happen. Search is essentially a part of the web browser itself.
Fauntleroy··on Solar will supply almost all growth in U.S. electricity generation through 2025
1) That ain't even bad 2) There are better ways to integrate solar into communities
Fauntleroy··on California regulators vote to keep Diablo Canyon nuclear plant open 5 more years
Are you going to provide a logical argument or just point to a pie chart and say "hey look nuclear is the smallest!"?
Fauntleroy··on My Ordinary Life: Improvements Since the 1990s (2019)
In addition, pretty much any new car you buy these days will spy on you by default. Along with any other Internet-connected services you use either directly or unintentionally by proxy.

(...and before someone argues, "you could just buy an old, non-spying car", you'll only be able to do that for so long. And pretty much never with a new vehicle.)

Fauntleroy··on You Don't Batch Cook When You're Suicidal (2020)
This kind of suffering has been around far, far longer than recent history.
Fauntleroy··on You Don't Batch Cook When You're Suicidal (2020)
If you read the rest of the article you'll see that she ate rice very very often.
Fauntleroy··on US lawyer who put Big Tobacco on trial takes aim at sports betting
If we don't regulate behavior at some level, and continuously pursue "freedom" over all else, our society will not be acting in the best interests of its people.
Fauntleroy··on CPNG, a backwards compatible fork of PNG
Less people is actually a very, very good thing in my mind. Twitter is a great example of what happens when too many people are "talking" at once.
Fauntleroy··on Homes need to be built for better internet
Lots of people out here not making the realization they need to be in the top ~20% of earners in their area if they want anything remotely nice in their life.

Edit: probably higher than that in certain locations where homeownership is impossible

Fauntleroy··on Billionaires amass more through inheritance than wealth creation, says UBS
Perhaps there is a better alternative to this. Rather than simply waiting for "times of instability," society at large could take a more proactive approach.
Fauntleroy··on Billionaires amass more through inheritance than wealth creation, says UBS
People whine about "wealth distribution" day and night, but at the end of the day what alternative is there to combat the (continually increasing) concentration of wealth at the top? At some point there will have to be redistribution, in some form, and the sooner society comes around to that the better off we'll all be.
Fauntleroy··on 'It gets scary': Neighbors say these Bay Area ghost kitchens are out of control
Unfortunately, the US is still set up in such a way that scooter delivery won't provide suitable coverage area. Wish it weren't the case. I feel like we're hemmed in, in so many ways, by the car induced sprawl throughout the nation.
Fauntleroy··on Star Citizen's Squadron 42 is feature-complete, ten years after being announced
Because it's been in development for (checks notes) 13 years
Fauntleroy··on California suspends Cruise's autonomous vehicle deployment
Until cars are capable of simulating real-world human decision making (of a smart and considerate driver), it's not going to be enough. It simply won't be possible to eliminate all the teeny tiny liability laden edge cases otherwise.
Fauntleroy··on Cleveland launches plan to provide cheap broadband
It's not mandatory to lick the corporate boots stepping on us, you know.
Fauntleroy··on Mazda slaps developer with cease-and-desist for DIY smart home integration
It's unfortunately more profitable to make it this way, otherwise they wouldn't.
Fauntleroy··on Product Hunt cleans house with layoffs impacting 60% of staff
I didn't even know this website was a business, or had a business model at all
Fauntleroy··on Stocketa – An app I designed, built and never launched
This is a bit off topic, but I feel like I need to appeal to the author—please do not spam my browser history just for scrolling down the page. This effectively "breaks" the back button in the browser.
Fauntleroy··on Schools for children of military achieve results rarely seen in public education
When the actual fix (improving the lives, discipline, and care provided by their parents) is untenable, other lower effort solutions start to become more attractive. It's unreasonable to expect schools to correct for a poor upbringing.
