Falloodude··on DNA Methylation Clocks' Predictive Capacity for Aging Phenotypes and Healthspan
23andMe will use your DNA to develop new drugs or treatments to help the general population. If you're comfortable with that, cool, take the test. If you'd rather get paid for the gene pool you own, good luck.
Falloodude··on Electric cooker an easy, efficient way to sanitize N95 masks, study finds
Cooking the mask ensures that microorganisms on it will die and not pose a risk to the wearer. A mask sitting around for several days can still harbor them in some cases.

“We do not want to become the arbiters of truth. That would be a bad position to be in.” -Zuck
Falloodude··on Making aerial fiber deployment faster and more efficient
This is a cool project! What happens when that power line needs maintenance or replacement? Are you just severing the cable? Wrapping a backup line? Just doing a splice with new line and moving on?

Seems like this also produces a lot of waste over time if you wrap a power line, then have to re-do the work 30 years later (or sooner).

Falloodude··on One woman's stolen identity exposed a system of exam fraud
This test is absolutely brutal compared to the SAT. Imagine if US students were subjected to three days of testing, eight hours each day, that included all the SAT II subjects plus regular SAT subject matter. Oh, and throw in a whole section on Middle English, too.
Falloodude··on New slats make the Golden Gate Bridge sound like a David Lynch movie
Holy moly I can hear this from the Inner Richmond at night, WHILE IN MY BED. I thought my tinnitus was doing something new, but it's the freaking bridge!
Falloodude··on GitHub Classroom
Really? Memorizing mistakes and not making them again is how many students improve. How did you work around this?
Falloodude··on Toxic sofas are a secret scandal
This is a false equivalency. Cooks are not chemically addicted to food in the same way smokers are chemically addicted to cigarettes. Practically speaking, cooks usually only use knives in rooms/places with food. Smokers could be smoking anywhere.

When my apartment building nearly caught fire because someone two buildings over fell asleep with a cigarette in hand, killed themselves, and burned down two other apartments, of course people wondered why cigarettes don't burn out on their own when you stop taking drags.

Falloodude··on Burnout: 'Sick and tired of feeling sick and tired'
Most instances of burnout in my life have come from non-work these days. The company I work for of course doesn't give a shit about this, despite it having a very real effect on my work output.

In 2019, one of my parents tried to meddle in my relationship with my wife, and then took the additional step of nearly ruining our wedding. The additional dozen or so hours per week needed to deal with this (which, by the way, sent me back to my therapist) was overwhelming once sustained for a few months. Oh, also, someone broke into my wife's house and stole a lot of valuable heirlooms, which also caused extra drama in the middle of these two things, which also cost me in lost time, lost sleep, and random interruptions at work.

My performance review for year 2019 was bad. My boss says it was because my Jira card count and code contributions were below X. I let him know of impending catastrophe as best I could the entire year, and adjusted expectations accordingly, but it's clear the org doesn't actually care — so why should he?
