Important: If you are looking at this profile because you thought something I posted was wrong, dismissive, disrespectful, douchebaggish, what have you, I would really like to hear from you so that I could understand how you got that impression. I won't get mad, I won't "retaliate" I just want to hear what you have to say. It is important to me to communicate clearly and if something I said struck you that way then I failed and I would like to correct it. (Borrowed from another profile)

FBISurveillance··on Scaling Kubernetes to Thousands of CRDs
This looks like a multi-cloud variant of Google Config Connector?
FBISurveillance··on Ask HN: Which Private Jet service do you use?
Only on HN :)

NW is 8 figures. I fly coach, or business if it's a long haul AND the price is not more than 2.5x of coach.

FBISurveillance··on The Zoom installer let a researcher hack his way to root access on macOS
Google Meet is a great example of an app that uses AV and works well, running in a browser. Even with a large number of participants - and no client required.

On the other hand, Zoom web client is an afterthought, to put it nicely.

FBISurveillance··on An incident impacting 5M accounts and private information on Twitter
Yes he certainly is; he also reported it afterwards via HackerOne to get that $5k bounty. Two birds one stone.
FBISurveillance··on Show HN: SnoopForms – Open-Source Typeform Alternative
An aggression uncalled for. Be better than that. Provide feedback, show empathy, and assume people here are acting in good faith - because more often than not - they do so.
FBISurveillance··on About communication safety in Messages
I have a 5 y.o. daughter and two nephews: 6 and 11 y.o. I like seeing them grow in real world.

There will always be perverts sending nudes to kids one way or another. Where I grew (before the internet) we've had them arrested near schools.

Pretending the world is all unicorns and rainbows is not the way to raise your children IMO - the hard truth is going to hit them sooner or later. Talk to them, treat them as young adults, and explain what is good and what is not, and why.

Fun story: I'm into crossfit semi-professionally and I've recently been very pleased to hear my 5 y.o. telling her friends that they should not eat that much fries and coke if they want to stay healthy and suggested they try fish and chicken instead.

FBISurveillance··on Apple to Pay $50M Settlement over MacBook Butterfly Keyboard Lawsuit
I've been using Apple products for 20 years and Butterfly MBP - for me - has been the worst MacBook experience ever. You know, that feeling that your tool of trade can fail on you at any moment. Extremely low trust levels.
FBISurveillance··on Wealth as a predictor of whether an person pursues a creative profession (2019)
Hmmmm, according to Wikipedia: "Klimt lived in poverty while attending the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule [...]" - did you mean someone else by any chance?
FBISurveillance··on Deno’s July 13th incident update
Happens to the best of us  You folks are working on a great product!
FBISurveillance··on Deno’s July 13th incident update
Hugops to the team. A quick question: is it intentional that there's nothing on https://denostatus.com/?
FBISurveillance··on Amazon Aurora Supports PostgreSQL 14
Lift and shift probably - means to move as is.
FBISurveillance··on Goodbye, Feedly
A happy paying Feedly user ever since Google Reader shut down. I find it great.

I'm also a paying Dropbox customer and they keep nagging about Dropbox for Business and _that_ I find annoying.

FBISurveillance··on Ask HN: What does your team use for uptime monitoring?
Google Monitoring Uptime checks: https://cloud.google.com/monitoring/uptime-checks
FBISurveillance··on Pre-Sliced Bread was once banned in the United States (2010)
For a decent bread, get a Bread Maker and do it yourself. They are ridiculously easy to use, they do most of the work themselves, you just need ingredients.
FBISurveillance··on Wearing flashy/status clothes makes people less likely to cooperate with you
I know it's a cliche, but I always thought that expensive clothes that scream brands (LV, Gucci, etc) are for poor people who want to look rich.
FBISurveillance··on Bringing Forward the End-of-Life Date for Node.js 16
Node 16 graduated to LTS on 20 Apr 2021. Lambda added support for Node 16 just last month, basically 13 months after.

I hope they add Node 18 sooner than that.

FBISurveillance··on Ask HN: What should America do with its nuclear waste?
Check out Onkalo - Finland's nuclear waste storage facility that's green, efficient and will bring them a lot of money when tech catches up and they will be able to re-use that waste to power new generation of reactors.

So my answer would be: import it making money now, store it safely and use later.

FBISurveillance··on Average cloud customer is paying 65% more for Kubernetes compute than needed
"Average body temperature at a hospital is 98.6"

This a weird article that looks like astroturfing, probably sponsored by Cast AI. Using spot instances gives you a lot of savings? Heck yes, but there are tradeoffs.

Good luck relying on spot during holiday season or any supply chain issues, stockouts will make your life miserable.

FBISurveillance··on Fly.io: The reclaimer of Heroku's magic
This. I've had a very real situation with DataDog: I've accidentally created a Synthetics test (and forgot about it) on a test account and incurred $5k+ bill at end of month. Zero notice or anything.

I ended up swallowing the bill but will not be using them again since this is plain scary.

Edit: funny thing - to add insult to injury, I've started to hear from their sales people on "my growth plans", even though I've had a support ticket hoping to resolve this to no avail.

FBISurveillance··on Luna Cryptocurrency Collapse: How UST Broke
To rephrase: global warming becomes a bigger issue as JavaScript adoption grows.
FBISurveillance··on Separate Your Billing from Entitlements
Thanks for the link - am I getting it right that this is a Feature Flag system akin https://www.growthbook.io/ and PostHog Flags (also OSS)? At least I got this impression from their landing page.
FBISurveillance··on Separate Your Billing from Entitlements
Curious: Are there any OSS entitlement management systems or libraries out there?
FBISurveillance··on ESO event on groundbreaking results from Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration
Like there's an infinite number of universes that are like bubbles in boiling water: appear, expand, and then dissolve.

Would be cool.

FBISurveillance··on ESO event on groundbreaking results from Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration
Evidence of multiverse?
FBISurveillance··on Notes on an Observability Team
O11y is Gen Z term for NOC.
FBISurveillance··on Updates to Google Cloud’s infrastructure capabilities and pricing
tl;dr: sorry folks, raising prices since electricity prices skyrocketed, engineers want more money, and inflation is real.
FBISurveillance··on 1Password for SSH and Git (Beta)
A paying customer for 5+ years, still miss this feature daily.
FBISurveillance··on Nuclear power may be the key to least-cost, zero-emission electricity systems
We want that - amounts of fission byproduct are so much smaller in comparison to what you get by burning coal.

Finland has one of the most advanced fission byproduct storages in the world and they are so freaking compact. Like, it's nothing like that green glowing substance they show in movies.

Oh, and they will make money on it fast forward few decades, that fission byproduct will be fuel for future generation stations.

FBISurveillance··on Ask HN: San Francisco vs. Palo Alto – which is better for funded startup?
Unpopular opinion: neither, unless you're looking for a very specific skillset. There's so much talent outside of Bay Area, why limit your pool?
FBISurveillance··on Ask HN: How often do you make a fresh OS install?
Once a year, when a new MacOS comes out.
