EvRev··on Why does every advert look the same? Corporate Memphis
From a technical perspective I enjoy using graphics that are able to be rendered as a SVG. I believe that is why this style has taken off, it is able to be served and rendered with regard to performance. The article presents it as a change made by Apple, but it was really the frontend that pushed visuals like this.

I support redesigns every three years and have stopped recommending the faceless images that is Memphis Group. Trends are great, regular work to purge trends is even better.

EvRev··on Amtrak's 2035 map has people talking about the future of U.S. train travel
Amtrak leases all tracks they use with the highest priority. Nobody could afford a ticket of they had to lay their own tracks.

Private companies are the only ones willing to make these investments in infrastructure so they can leverage the data it provides, i.e. BNSF and Buffet.

EvRev··on 100 years later, the dystopian origin of the word ‘robot’ still rings true
I found a similar paradox, I'm not religious but I find the notion that humans have been created in God's image to have parallels in the way that we are currently pursuing AI.

The corollary to the is that we randomly evolved of billions of years and our thinking has become so complex that we believe that we can create something that is similarly complex is very fascinating. Fetish is definitely the right word.

The notion that the AI or robots would wake up and have selfish views similar to man's makes sense to us. I wonder how long it will be before the AI or robots is simulating its own creation in their own image...

EvRev··on Facebook Disabled My Account After I Criticized Them
Has anybody considered the distinct possibility that there is an AI that exists within this company? And that AI has feelings, or at least a model that's responsible for interpreting on a petty level because that's how it was programmed? And now those AIs are fighting for the future within their own little silos of the companies that built them.

I have been using a Amaze Bipfit with Gadget bridge for the past few months. It helped me get my sleep back on track and my fitness levels back to a baseline. Previously I had a Basis and I really miss the galvanic skin response sensor and the temperature sensor. There are not any devices that work with Gadgetbridge, let alone anything on the market I trust using that has these two additional sensors, which allows be to see triggers in stress beyond the heart rate.

Hats off to the Pine folks for having a smartwatch, but for God's sake if they are going to develop their own devices from the ground up please include a temp sensor at the least.

Ebay has tons. They run $25 to $40.

Third time is a charm! Your tool is amazing, hoping to use it with my fitness tracker data out of Gadgetbridge.

How much overlap do you see with Graphana? Perhaps trying to target that group could yield more adopters?

EvRev··on What’s Flying Above Us?
Recently we had a suspect run through the yard. It was terrifying and had I not been hanging out on the back room I would not have been able to lock the door before he got in. The initial tip off that something was off was the CHP plane flying in circles above.

Now when I hear the aircraft above us I instantly check its pattern and lock all the doors.

EvRev··on How to Find New Music
I go to SoundCloud and start following young producers who have the time to repost what they encounter. It is not based on an algorithm, but rather real people who have the time to explore more new music than I have to listen to.

These guys do a great job manually aggregating new music and putting it into mixes. The jokes and fake ads are racy so listen with care: https://soundcloud.com/thunderstone-labs

Super cool project! I was interested in something similar!! Glad to see they open sourced the data as well!!!
EvRev··on Three Charged in Fatal Kansas ‘Swatting’ Attack
The individuals walking around with those weapons in France do not have the same intentions as the US counter parts. In the US those armed like this will size up every person walking by them, in France they are there patrolling but in a very passive manner. In such a way that made me feel like they were weak in France, but I prefer to not have the flight response when feeling the gaze of someone who is heavily armed.
EvRev··on Ask HN: How does a great resume look like? What are the best tools to make one?
Here is what works for me. Took me so many iterations to polish it. I use Inkscape.

EvRev··on Ask HN: Your best passive income sources?
That is not passive at all. You have to change the res every two weeks, plus be on the look out for any signs of stress (bugs, nutrients, and environment).

Then you have to process it, which a pound can be trimmed by a professional in about 10 hours. BTW you need to supervise them or do it yourself.

Then you get the hassle of dealing with the clubs consignment drama... Not to mention the stress of worrying about being robbed throughout the whole cycle.
